I got a cataract at age 22 and by the time I got the surgery it was making me so depressed. Losing vision is terrifying and gaining it back felt like a miracle. I'm glad for everyone that was able to get the surgery.

What's so sad is that I got an ad saying that the advertisers made him deblinded using a "seven second treatment" basically stealing his work and claiming it as their own.
What's even worse is that this "treatment" is only found in a scam link on the ad.

Great-grandma had her eye surgery at 84. She was so happy to see me. She'd gone almost completely blind by the time my parents married. I spent a lot of time with her while she was alive, leading her around by the hand, explaining stuff to her that I have seen or done while she was sitting on the bench. She said it was one of the happiest days of her life when she finally could see what I looked like, even if we could only afford for one eye to be fixed. I can't imagine how it would have been, to help raise someone for 8 years and then finally be able to see them.

I visited Tanzania in 2017 and I'll always remember how they took care of me when I fell ill with a horrible flu. I was at their mercy and they showed me so much kindness and care. Thank you for bringing joy to these people, they deserve the world.

When my mom had her cataract surgery she was amazed at how much she had been missing. I remember telling her Doctor that I cant imagine a more fulfilling job than that of giving people their sight back and how thankful I was for what he had given my mom. He told me the reason he went into his field was he wanted to make an impact in the quality of peoples lives. He did, still does and the world needs more people like that

@@bobsagit2683 I get subsidized healthcare in an Eastern European country, no insurance necessary, only taxes. Recently, an appendicitis surgery cost me 61 Euros total - 31 for surgery itself, and 10 for each night spent in the hospital, resulting in a total of 61 Euros. That's like 12% of my monthly after tax income. Meanwhile, a quick google search tells me that an appendicitis surgery costs 10K+ and upwards in US. How lucky I am to pay so little out of pocket.
Also, my total monthly tax contribution to the government are like 28% of my Gross income, only some of which accounts for medical expenses, and the rest for social security and the like.
This was so heartwarming. I worked for an ophthalmologist for several years and he and a team went to another country to do this same thing. What an amazing gift to those receiving it!

I cant even imagine the amount of emotions they must feel after being blind and finally seeing again. Even though they didn’t really express their feelings as much, they probably felt so exhilarated.
I found that weird, they were like "yeah I could see, no big deal". But maybe before filming, they already had expressed their excitement.

@@MindfulW1zard I felt exactly the same. Other than the excited "yiyiyiyiyiyiyiyi" I couldn't feel or see it. But maybe we are looking for signs and happiness according to our own cultural values. Could be that they show or express it differently. The old man in the end definitely expressed strong feelings with his words even though his body language and tone didn't seem to indicate such to me.

I went blind in one eye overnight - blinding headaches are a thing. After a scramble of emergency treatments that didn’t work I got the same surgery these people got. My ophthalmologist called me a terrifying emergency. It happened in the other eye 5 years later even though I’d had preventative laser work. Had the surgery again but this time got a severe allergic reaction to the post op meds too. So very very grateful for the many doctors and nurses that fixed my vision, twice. My heart goes out to all these folk who don’t live in places where treatments are available or affordable or have credit terms . Mine cost a lot but it was a price I was willing to pay to see again. Still paying it off but I’m not complaining.
Amazing work. I wish I had surgical skill. I’d like to help abroad like this when I retire.

dont blame her, some of these people even tho they are timid know what the white men did/do to their people and their land. Some multi national companies are in some of these areas destroying their livelihood and environment. So some people see his kind as invaders which they truly are. Ive got 3 kids and when they start complaining about unnecessary things i try to teach them to be grateful for what they have and there life because the way we live, eat, sleep and play is like kings compared to many many people in 3rd world countries. Most families have lost touch with what's really important in life. Im so grateful and i want my kids to be the same way. May God bless those peoples.
You are doing a great job! Keep in mind your children are allowed to be upset, even about small things sometimes. Comparing isnt always good, and it could teach your kids that their struggles are irrelevant because others have it worse (this can influence them ESPECIALLY when their brains havent fully developed yet, which is under the age of 21). Make sure to love them ♡
I'm sorry but this attitude not good for your kids mental health. It's called gaslighting, which is downplaying someone's lived experience, and what you're saying to them is one way in which is presents. Please don't minimize their suffering just because it isn't "as bad" as other people's. Humans are different in how sensitive we are to pain, traumatic events etc. Some people can see thousands die and not develop PTSD, others just feel *like* someone is going to die and develop it. If you want your kids to be mentally healthy don't say that type of shit to them. I am severely mentally ill and my suffering being downplayed like that is a big part in why my mental illnesses went untreated for a very long time. If you want your kids to not feel guilty when they suffer but don't suffer "enough" don't say that crap.
