- Sometimes it is more fun to make things yourself. A little bit of aluminum, a broken drill bit, and a few hours later I had a functional part I could use to fix my printer. Thanks for watching. Subscribe for more!
Cr-10 Extruder 3D Model: grabcad.com/li...
That arm was one of the first things I replaced on my Ender 3v2, something that's constantly under pressure like that shouldn't have been made from plastic
Nice part! Just a couple weeks ago the extruder arm on my Ender 3 broke in the exact same way.
Mine broke too, on ender 3 pro. Bought from internet metal kit, still was under-extruding. So needed change rotations per mm in printer settings, after seeing only 6.5cm extruded then asked for 10cm. So its perfect now.
Just as an option: broken lever can be fixed by reinforcing with wire melted into plastic with soldering iron. Just 5 minutes and you'll forget about this forever.
the Dual Gear Extruder is pretty good also, and it has a better spring. but I love how yours looks and will last a long time. I also like your CNC.
Did you countersink the edge of the hole the filament goes though? If the filament is wearing the plastic the edge might make scrape your filament slightly which could cause issues too. I assume any shaving would be extremely small so probably not much point…
Since its ferrous in aluminium, you could have used Alum to dissolve the bit out, get a non steel pot, enough water to cover over the area with the drill bit and dump a load of alum into it, ususally until you have some still undissolved fro max speed of removal. Cover the pot and simmer for a few hours depending on size of bit or tap to remove, the steel will dissolve and you have an intact aluminium part minus any damage you caused before you found out how to do this. The alum solution can be stored and reused to fix "Errors" many times.
Yeah this is a known issue with Ender 3's/CR-10's that's why the metal extruder kit got so cheap, it used to be $25+ a few years back. The filament rubbing slot is also an old problem, there are many solutions online, the easiest one is to print a small bracket that holds a piece of PTFE tubing.
Anyways, great video, it's always satisfying to watch stuff being made.
I had the same problem with the extruder arm!
You always need several machines... One to repair another one :)
Happened to me too. I was able to print this part at the local library.
Yup, i had same problem.
And also it took me ages to find it.
Those leavers are crappy af, i just bought all metal for extruder motor and it helped a lot. (printer: ender v2)
I know this is an old video, but when you put the spring back in.. isn't there supposed to be a little 'hat' that the m4 goes into before the spring? That way further tightening it actually results in greater clamping on the filament and is adjustable.
Thanks ,I was having same problem thought I had it fixed overnight printed first 90% perfect then went to crap.just watched your video and went and pulled mine;yep broken! thanks
Mine broke too only after a few hours. I just feed it manually by hand now.
These levers are horrible. I’m angry they still make them but happy you made a video.
MakeTeachRepeat: It looks to be the identical part to my Ender 3. Something I (and many thousands of other Ender owners) should keep an eye on!
Isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle is a decent lube and chip clearer.
Great video and fix. Mahalo for sharing! : )
Wow that's Nice Bro... 👍
I *think* you could have dissolved the broken bit with alum in solution
I remember watching an AvE video where he used a solution of alum to dissolve a busted tap. I wonder if that could have been used for the drillbit? It didn't interact with the aluminum, just left a little nugget of corroded steel.

Ben Greep: Michael's reply to your comment should be to sing "Where were you when I needed you?" by The Grass Roots (1966) :o)
Hi, very interesting.
I wanted to ask you a favor,i have the same printer and i'm interested
to your leveling system the wheels under the platform
do you have an stl for that?
Thank you and regards
I just 3d printed mine when it broke
Wow ur so smart
Switch to something non Chinese as in Prusa or something like that. Problem solved. :) (I started with Enders and learned a ton from them, by fixing stuff)
First
i printed my own one with my old broken lever inside, later i found out that i had an spare part ... its still in work since now 2 years lol
