  • Let’s take a trip back in time to explore the rich history of Reno, Nevada, starting from the 1800s with Virginia City being dubbed as “The Richest Place on Earth,” all the way to the present day. 1st Look guest host Tabitha Lipkin talks with historian Joe Curtis about what made Virginia City such a desired and wealthy destination for settlers, as well as the spot for Mark Twain to evolve from a newspaper journalist into the infamous fiction writer that we know him as today. After that, we’ll throw our rings in the river as we flash forward to the early 1900s to learn why Reno stakes its place in history as the “Divorce Capital of the World" and how this backstory of independence and empowerment inspired dude ranches. Finally, we’ll top off this segment with an interview between Tabitha and Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve about how she was able to help shape Reno from primarily being a gaming hub into a more cultural one, as well as insight on some of Reno's most special aspects: its talented creatives and vibrant communities.
