How much bottom is the max you can stay at that depth? 245 ' the your mix. And if you stay a min or two longer how bad is the deco? Awesome video as always. God bless
T50, a very rough estimate would be 3-4 minutes of deco for every minute of bottom time. This could increase by a factor of two or more depending on mix, deco gas(s), length of dive, recent dive activity before current dive, water temp , work load and a host of other factors. An extra minute on the bottom might cause as little as 3-4 more minute of deco , or it might cause 8-10 additional minutes. A good plan but he works under a Commercial License and is required to sell EVERYTHING he shoots to his Commercial Supplier . That Supplier sells mostly to larger restaurants so they can offer a choice of FRESH FISH on their menu when you show up at their place for Supper .
Hey Mike, The Blacks in our area are much "darker" than the gags, but I know in some areas they can have very similar color patterns. I like them both! Best, Dan

Hey Peddy, I really like the 150'-160' as well. In the hot Summer months in this area, the fish are out deeper in cooler water, so that's where we go. And you're def right, extended range depths require lots and lots of training! Best, Dan
Do you like blinding them alive? I have seen most European (Greek, Italian or Spanish) spear fishing folks carry a small knife that they stick into the head of fish caught. End of struggle.
Arijit, when you're diving in 80 meters, every second counts. Trying to pull and use a kill knife on two large Grouper is a lot easier said than done. I carry a kill knife and have used it on occasion, but never in that deep of water on two large fish like that. Dan
Hey Daniel, it was literally the calm before the storm as we had a TS and then a Hurricane roll through the Gulf the following week. Don't know what the viz is like out there now, but you're right, it was great that trip! Best, Dan
You should do longer vids and commentary you could turn this channel into something amazing your a great spearfisherman and this channel and you have a lot of potential

I don’t know where is it, but in Spain is not legal, and if police catch go to the jail directly, this must be prohibited global world, not any value finishing like this, for me is ^ big Mather fucker^
Ravid, it's commercial spear fishing, which accounts for well less than 1% of the commercial bottom fish fishery in the Gulf of Mexico. We have a well managed fishery and fish populations are steady or growing. Dan
There is now way anyone using a snorkel can dive down 245 feet , and it takes a special breathing mix ( not oxygen ) to play in the deeper water . This is his job , and he gathers fish for a Commercial Supplier who sells FRESH FISH to bigger restaurants so there will be fish choices on the menu when you show up for dinner .

You should put a website up or put it right here on your RUclips page and sell those fillets to us pack them in ice and ship them the same day or the next day some of the world has never tasted the fish that you shoot we only get cod and haddock bass trout and walleye! 🇺🇸❤️
A good plan but he works under a Commercial License and is required to sell EVERYTHING he shoots to his Commercial Supplier . That Supplier sells mostly to larger restaurants so they can offer a choice of FRESH FISH on their menu when you show up at their place for Supper .
Is anyone going to mention the title!? Giant.....Gag.....hole! Lmao
Kyle...lol....somebody "brought it to my attention" the other day. I guess I should have thought that title through a little better! Best, Dan
Man! That was intense. 👍🏼
Thanks AC! Glad you enjoyed it! Best, Dan
Warriors doing battle at the bottom of the sea and surfacing victorious, beat that!!
Ops .....!! the first one so stron make u crazy 😋
He def was, the diver did a great job in that depth, rounding them both up! Thanks for watching! Best, Dan
Nice second fish, Both would make some nice cuban fish sandwich. Now I’m hungry!
Hey Doyle, hard to beat a deep fried fresh Grouper sandwich on a sub roll and a cold beer! Now I'm hungry, lol. Best, Dan
simply awesome.......
Thanks Darrell! I really enjoyed watching him get it done as well! Best, Dan
Nice!
Thanks BY! Glad you liked it! Best, Dan
hi dan,🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️ nice catch, keep safe always man,
Hey Edgar, thanks buddy, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the well wishes. I'll def try to stay safe and you please do the same. Best, Dan
Gag or black , never could tell them apart . Especially under water .
Hey Mike, The Blacks in our area are much "darker" than the gags, but I know in some areas they can have very similar color patterns. I like them both! Best, Dan
DETROIT MICHIGAN WELDER NOTICED THAT...DAMN ABSOLUTE GLASS OFF 🤙⚓😎
Thanks PW, I always appreciate your comments! Best, Dan
lol the DECO gods... yes indeed
JA, boy isn't that the truth...they can be non forgiving gods as well...lol...Best, Dan
BRASIL .mostrar o peixe no barco
He did this time , and you heard his ask for extra time to leave the fish alone for a bit so he could get them on film . Really nice big fish those were .
so lucky...nice
Your a beast bud! Don’t have the balls or training to dive that deep I will stay under 160
Hey Peddy, I really like the 150'-160' as well. In the hot Summer months in this area, the fish are out deeper in cooler water, so that's where we go. And you're def right, extended range depths require lots and lots of training! Best, Dan
Breathing rate went up a bit with that battle.
RK, that it did but not too bad. He probably would have usually burned 1200-1400 and ended up burning 1800 or so. Understandably so! Best, Dan
Nothing like having to work in a sand storm!
RP, it def was that! Small spot with a lot going on. He did well, could have gone sideways pretty easily!
Dan
The viz was incredible, look like pure glass.
Hey Daniel, it was literally the calm before the storm as we had a TS and then a Hurricane roll through the Gulf the following week. Don't know what the viz is like out there now, but you're right, it was great that trip! Best, Dan
Dan MacMahon thanks Dan!
You should do longer vids and commentary you could turn this channel into something amazing your a great spearfisherman and this channel and you have a lot of potential
Thanks JJB, I was playing around with the idea of maybe doing a minute or two of pre-dive stuff on the boat, maybe showing the spot on the sounder, talking about it (briefly) and maybe a minute of getting ready. I'll give it a shot asap and see how it goes. If you have any specific or additional advise, I'll def be up to listening. Thanks, Dan
At 245' it is obviously a tech dive. Some should be warned the profile is for very experienced divers... Plus at that depth bottom time makes for mighty quick video. Love it!!
Damn that lol it’s time for a power head
SC, I agree, would have def made things easier! Best, Dan
Wow..nice
Thanks Retzy! He def did a great job on those Gags! Best, Dan
I think on a deep dive like that I would be doing PH's. .. more efficient, cleaner, qiuck.. bang bang, pu and go
TOD, you def could, I just really enjoy the free shafting part of it. I do know some guys who pretty much exclusively PH, but it just never was the way I wanted to go. But I do completely get what you're saying! Best, Dan
@@danmacmahon3973 I agree I love free shafting as well spearing the whole experience I'm just thinking on a deep technical dive like that big fish not a whole lot of time to wrestle with the fish ph the way to go :) I think that's why you use powerheads on AJ's you get a missed shot on those guys bye-bye shaft
I wish you guys would use a small braining knife to subdue your fish. Seems like it would save you some time.
FLP12, I occasionally will, never in the real deep stuff though. A couple of the guys use them on a regular basis. Best, Dan
wow nice spot
Hey FC, it sure was. I hope I get a chance to personally dive it some day. Like you said, really a nice spot! Best, Dan
Seamed to a bit off a hard dive that one A. cheer's.
Hey Paul, it was def a high effort dive. I thought he did a great job with it though. Glad you liked it! Best, Dan
Hanging onto a shaft going through a really big STRONG fish will wear you out fast . It was not easy to get the fish placed on the stringer .
What a pair of good looking ladies
Voodoo, they sure were! When they broke the surface, I initially thought it was a big Black but quickly realized they were Gags! Great fish! Best, Dan
Just love this guy..Just love your channel ❤
Thanks GTK, much appreciated! Best, Dan
Another great video! Thanks, Rick. Great fish!
Thanks SF, gotta admit I was impressed with those two beauties in that depth of water! Glad you enjoyed the video! Best, Dan
Wow.
SB, yeah Ricky did a great job on those two fish, I was really impressed with that dive! Best, Dan
Spearfishing with oxygen tanks ?? What a hell is this ??? But is not allowed all this!!!!!
PE, huh? Spearfishing with Scuba is normal and legal in many parts of the world. Dan
Dan MacMahon I was not aware that somewhere is legal........I disapprove it totally!!!!!
Nice editing at the end. Good cut!
Thanks CB, I realized that the diver probably cut off his camera at the surface so I grabbed mine and recorded the fish on the deck. Really glad a lot of you guys convinced me to do that! Best, Dan
Strong gag..
Hey Van, they are that! Not too many fish stronger pound for pound than a big Gag! Thanks for watching, Best, Dan
@@danmacmahon3973 cant wait to watching your next video.. 😁👍
Dan
Debería estar prohibido pescar con botella!!! 👎
Clope, thanks for watching, Dan
There is now way anyone using a snorkel can dive down 245 feet , and it takes a special breathing mix ( not oxygen ) to play in the deeper water . This is his job , and he gathers fish for a Commercial Supplier who sells FRESH FISH to bigger restaurants so there will be fish choices on the menu when you show up for dinner .
No scuba diving
Brian, hard to snorkel in 250" for bottom fish. Dan
You need to set up a PayPal account also
GTK, not to sound stupid, but why? Thanks, Dan
Title reminds me of my ex
Luke...oh lordy, I might should have rethought that title...lol...that is funny though! Best, Dan
lol 45 to 50
MB, they were def a great pair of Gags...pretty impressive for that depth! Best, Dan
Schw de bola
