When I would go for my voice lesson at the Ansonia in Manhattan (with my teacher, Elda Ercole), I would often hear Siepi practicing. It was such a treat and a thrill. I also would sometimes hear Albanese. That was less of a thrill but still exciting. This was, gasp, in the mid 1950s.

i have to agree with you. I cannot explain it other than this is flawless singing. All of the vowels match and fit into the same shape. There is consistent color and breathe movement throughout.. amazing. tears.
Yeah, that is the typical "fach" answer. More accurately- Siepi was a dude with a rich, deep bass voice (low enough to record a fair low C) that sang so well, technically, that he sang Bass-baritone parts as well. His album of Cole Porter songs is one of the best you can find. He was one of the truly GREAT singers of his time, or any.
Neri was a Basso profundo (listen to Siepi/Neri duet from don Carlo - Neri's voice is slightly darker/deeper than Siepi). Siepi is more likely was a dramatic bass (darker/deeper then Cantante, but higher than true Profundo). Siepi had better low notes than any Basso Cantante (like Ghiaurov - his lowest working note was probably low E, while Siepi had great low D and at least could sing a very decent low C). Ghiaurov's timbre is also brighter than Siepi's, he could achieve almost baritonal sound (Don Giovanni, f.e.), when he needed so.
@@grouchomarx5609 I have taped a lot of great C with Siepi in La Favorita in Genova and Parma and Seneca`s dead in 5 or 6 concerts. He started with this scene to make the voice "warm".
@mistalala I think it needs to be agitated due to the stress the lyrics actual meaning stands in the background of his performance with some force. I think is amazing... best I heard I found this on my brothers IPOD great stuff... man!
Grande Siepi
Magnifico Siepi: grande padronanza dello strumento vocale, insieme di perfezione tecnica, eleganza, classe e maestria. Per me il più grande basso.

Siepi owns this aria. The best at it. What a warm and passionate, yet majestic performance.

One of my idols. What a voice!

Braaavoo maestro siepi👏👏👏👏👏👏🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

So beautiful... just a tremendous piece of art!

Immenso artista e bellissima interpretazione.Grazie.
Bravo maestro
@nomsdufrere
He´s a bass with an outstanding range from Low C until high A and his superb technicial skills allowed him to sing nearly everything!
high A...what?
Il
Il migliore😅
magnifico per voce, tecnica e interpretazione.
Grandissimo
@BusinessButterfly
yeah, i think it's amazing too!
the world of the opera will miss him very much
Unsurpassable by ANYONE!!!
Beautiful singing! he always displayed such grace... Not the power or color of Christoff or some others, but so very musical.
Siepi is the best at it. Superior to a darker Christoff -- incredibly tender, without compromising power, as few basses are able to do.
che classe!
Great voice....
Grande...

Great singer C.Siepi. Conductor A.Erede?
Hachi
Yes, it ís Alberto Erede.
In this time he conducted in Düsseldorf.
This concert is from Cologne.
Don’t forget Boris Christof. He was also great in this role!

I agree with you. Picapin, go away, "you are not welcome on this land".

Senza singhiozzi come d'uso ai veri professionisti.

Bass cantante.
@bodiloto's hater Or Shalyapin.

Edelstein 🩵
its a little bit fast for my taste
Great singer; outstanding actor; but, here, the voice is small and the color isn't brilliant
Cristiano Gobbi
This is a cheap copy.
The WDR in Cologne has the original tape.
