  • Close the door means to finish your striking combinations with your front hand. On the one hand your are taking advantage of the opportunities that you have created with your jab and right (left) hand and on the other you have put yourself back into a defensible position. I am a big fan of using the left cross behind the jab and right hand. Hooks are good however there are a lot of advantages to the left cross when you learn how to throw it properly and with authority. When you get a chance look up some of former champion Danny "Little Red" Lopez fights. He used the left cross to great advantage.

Over 20yrs ago, i realized, seigan no kamae with katana is a left handed 'stance' if you are thinking western fighting arts...the right handed fighting stance might get you killed in ancient Japan for being left handed...🙏🏼♾️thank you for sharing your experiences with us all✨

Love it. Great instruction. Bruce Lee used this combination as the foundation for his “blast” technique.

    Great video again!
In reference to the lead jab, are you also using that to peel away opponents defensive shell to get better purchase from your straight right?
Thanks very much Sensei for these.

That depends upon context. I am not doing this from just a boxing standpoint. As we move through the series we will look at kicks, headbutts, elbows etc. as options. If your opponent goes into a boxing shell he is giving you enormous opportunities using other tools. If I am just boxing then I may redirect the jab to an area not protected by the "shell", jab low follow with the right hand high or use the jab high into his guard to put the right hand low etc. With a 3 punch combination there are an enormous number of adaptive possibilities.
