Can I just say from someone who performs regularly onstage and then has been thrown out in front of a television performance that performing on stage is VERY different from on TV. You go from having a performance in front of people once to having something that can tangibly be re watched over and over if you screw up. It's incredibly nerve racking and her voice didn't sound tired, it sounded nervous. I don't blame her.
Jasmine Fernandes actually, nervousness can do unruly things to your voice, especially if it's tired. her voice was shaky and her vibrato was inconsistent. if it was only not warmed up it would be breaking more than anything else. it was a lack of breath support, causing her vocal folds to vibrate swiftly instead of in a way she could control. she just forgot to breathe. i will admit her voice was definitely tired from doing 6-8 shows a week (although that doesn't count her potential swing), because that score is a bitch to try to attempt professionally even if it is gorgeous, but there's more to it than her just being overworked.
Yeah nervousness can totally cause exactly this effect when it changes the way your breathing. Happened to me just recently and it was pretty much the same kind of waver and all.

Even with the hick-up, Barrett powered through and this performance is probably one of my favourites seeing as it's so true to how straining a role like Veronica is. Belting out some of the notes in this is very difficult, and I can imagine songs like Dead Girl Walking have their toll too. She's still an incredible talent, and Ryan is too.
Veronica is one of the most vocally demanding contemporary roles. Barrett did amazing with the role and she’s my broadway idol. Props to her for powering through.
Fun fact, Ryan said on his youtube channel that he has with his girlfriend (The Sam and Ryan Channel) that for this performance he had come from a party with his friends, so the reason he looks tired is cause it was a 5am shoot and he hadn't slept. He was also drunk

Imagine singing all the Heathers songs of Veronica every show day. Your voice needs a vocal break for her to still discard that and keep going with the show is truly inspiring and courageous. Do not give her such a hard time because she has worked very hard and it was not that she doesn't know how to sing it's just she needed a break. First of all, there are the inaccuracies: the description says that it is s Broadway show, however the show sadly never made it to Broadway, and Barrett plays Veronica, not Winona. They didn't even bother to really say who Ryan was playing. They are also rushing these poor actors and are incredibly hungry for answers to the point where it's almost scary, like at 0:25 when the woman asks Barrett a question and like jumps in towards her and then the man tries to cut Barrett off almost immediately and then when Ryan tries to talk but the man asks his question and also kind of jumps at Ryan and targets him, even pointing rather disrespectfully at him. I would be terrified.

I can tell Veronica is a very tough Character to play. All of the belting and Screaming and just the acting and emotions. But Barrett handles it Very Well. I understand that it was very early in the morning for all of that belting and yes her voice was probably tired, but she did AMAZING and no one can change my mind.
I recently did my first commercial, after years of doing theatre, and it's so different to perform in front of a camera and two people, than it is to perform for thousands of people. His promise to stop MURDERING PEOPLE is what makes her basically break up with him and they sang it like robots almost. I mean robots with amazing voices and incredible talent but they could have done so much better. The Barnes and Noble performance had moments when Dan and Barrett would look at each other and make eye contact and it really makes the song come alive from just the audio. I don't know, I get that it's a way different environment from the stage but seeing Ryan and Barrett standing shoulder to shoulder with each other made me feel really weird EDIT: THEYRE BOTH AMAZINGLY TALENTED ANGELS but this bugged me. y'all talking about barrett's voice but i'm laughing at the fact that ryan was actually drunk in this and still managed to slay the whole song somehow
I can tell Veronica is a very tough Character to play. All of the belting and Screaming and just the acting and emotions. But Barrett handles it Very Well. I understand that it was very early in the morning for all of that belting and yes her voice was probably tired, but she did AMAZING and no one can change my mind.

I recently did my first commercial, after years of doing theatre, and it's so different to perform in front of a camera and two people, than it is to perform for thousands of people. You don't have the energy to feed off of, and it's just a different experience. I understand why Barrett was nervous and uncomfortable. Also singing in the morning is SO HARD like oml it's terrible to have to belt in the morning

Her singing doesn't sound tired, it sounds like normal nervous voice in the morning with no warming up before whatsoever, her singing was still fucking amazing. Specially the no warming up, someones voice really changes without warming up before

Is no one else upset that they didn't perform this facing this to each other? It's the love song of the musical. His promise to stop MURDERING PEOPLE is what makes her basically break up with him and they sang it like robots almost. I mean robots with amazing voices and incredible talent but they could have done so much better. The Barnes and Noble performance had moments when Dan and Barrett would look at each other and make eye contact and it really makes the song come alive from just the audio. I don't know, I get that it's a way different environment from the stage but seeing Ryan and Barrett standing shoulder to shoulder with each other made me feel really weird
EDIT: THEYRE BOTH AMAZINGLY TALENTED ANGELS but this bugged me. It's less criticism for Ryan and Barrett and more for whoever stuck them in a dark room in that position
