That first set up fatigues is called Tiger Stripe, and it was issued during the Vietnam conflict, the blue sleeve is a USMC Gunnery Sargent Dress blue Uniform Sleeve. The white helmet is a WWII Civil Defense (Air Raid Warden) Helmet

America folded flags are given to everyone leaving their military service. It’s also given to the ones that died also. You always say it’s for the ones that died and just wanted you to know Michael. 👍👍
diane lindall everyone I know has the folded flag given to them as they left the military. I don’t know if it’s always been that way but my friend got out a few years ago and he got one to so I don’t have any answers on why your husband didn’t get one. Sorry

I have a flag that was given to my parents when my sister passed she was in US A.F 1987 . it was put in a wooden frame under glass by an Uncle well protected with 3 spent shells and her photo that i proudly display and am proud to own it and i thank her everyday. Its something i would never leave behind. Just saying
That duffle bag that you found that was 2nd Marine Division I Camp Lejeune North Carolina that's where I served in the military Fox company 2nd battalion 2nd Marine 2nd Marine Division
The patces on the jacket in the trunk i US air force , dont know the rang , and the helmet in the trunk is a us gi , and the eagle on the liner is for the rang of colonel
Could tell whomever packed those duffle bags were never in the Service. For my kids Father could pack and taught me how to put items in when taken out no ironing needed. We used his old military items from Nam in Alaska. Was thankful. I Salute all Military and our Allies with a heart Salutes. We have a lot of Allies who were right with us in most Modern Wars. I am like you when l see a Our Flag rumpled or touching the ground l get upset. Lost 1/2 of graduating class from the Navajo Rez in Nam or other places. Sad.
I think I'd keep the stuff in the bag with the moth-eaten German uniform quarantined so the moths don't get into the other stuff. The little buggers are good at getting everywhere.

The reason you should not paint on a helmet is because it will not reflect any damage true the helmet if the helmet has a crack and you paint over it it is hidden

The canteen and the last helmet was Vietnam era i use some just like it in 69/70U USMC

My husband retired after 24 1/2 years of active duty, but only got an American flag presented upon his death, not retirement

The sleeve is from a Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant uniform called the Dress Blues. I know 'cause I'm a Marine.
