I don't completely understand this logic. This is what is called moving the goalpost or changing the rules in the middle of the game. Although no one can force you to take a fight, if you can't fight the mandatory challenger then step aside period. That's the golden hard rule of boxing. These other arguments are shades of grey rational gymnastics. It's fascinating that David Morell is not in the conversation considering his amazing skill set. The main problem here is money. The second problem is the chicken mentality of the presidents of these belt organization to force demand timely mandatory challenges. So the rules have fundamentally changed. I don't completely understand this logic. This is what is called moving the goalpost or changing the rules in the middle of the game. Although no one can force you to take a fight, if you can't fight the mandatory challenger then step aside period. That's the golden hard rule of boxing. These other arguments are shades of grey rational gymnastics. It's fascinating that David Morell is not in the conversation considering his amazing skill set. The main problem here is money. The second problem is the chicken mentality of the presidents of these belt organization to force demand timely mandatory challenges. So the rules have fundamentally changed. It's not about who is batter up anymore. It's all about pay per view capability.

Canelo has put in more work than any other fighter this era including fighting 2 of the 3 Russian light heavyweight champs as an ex welterweight while the 3 of them haven't fought each other once despite competing there their entire careers.
Dan said that Canelo fought good champions at their pick. That's a yes and no! He was in super welter and went up to win a middleweight belt. He had to defend that belt against Golovkin and then he vacated it and went back to 154. Waited a couple of yrs and then fought Golovkin when he was 35 yrs old. After that, he gave Kovalev 8 weeks to train with rehydration clause. Kovalev had a nasty fight 8 or 9 weeks before the fight with Canelo. There was no chance to Kovalev to win under those circumstances. The fight against Cotto was good but the Boricua was a lightweight that at the end of his career was a super welterweight. Canelo was way bigger than him. Canelo is a good fighter but he's been picking his opponent at the right time for him.
