His randomizer comparison is inherently flawed, because this is something that USED to be possible. Skill still matters for every level but this one. You go into the game expecting to have levels that are playable to completion. Quitting because Nintendo hands you an impossible quest at random is punishing yourself for nothing. With a randomizer, you already take the chance at the forced loss by even participating. No amount of skill fixes the random chance of just not having what you need to complete the quest. This is an L you accept is possible by participating. It’s part of the rules. When encountering something that is functionally impossible because of patching, that’s entirely on Nintendo and it should be skipped. The skip mechanism exists for a reason.
@kyzerbuhnzi6403 There is the element that restarting there is great from a content perspective. Like it's not really a self punishment if he believed it would make the video more entertaining and increase engagement, which it definitely did since we're talking about it.
@kyzerbuhnzi6403 A randomizer does account for possibility. In fact, a giant team of people have meticulously contributed towards coding logic that prevents you from getting an impossible seed. Thus creating: no logic randomizer. The whole appeal is that it MIGHT be impossible, and will require the user to know potentially every glitch in the game. If I did a no logic randomizer, then decided it was impossible and was like okay I'll use GameShark then .. what's the point? I failed to complete it, just move on to the next. The analogy is extremely accurate lol. I have already accepted that I will lose to bad luck. Your version of victory here would be hollow for me. When *you* play Mario Maker you accept that levels might not be possible so you skip them. When I do my self imposed challenge and don't want any skips on my account, I accept I may approach a 0% success wall. The same fate I would accept when I sign up to turn off the logic settings for randomizer.
@@SimpleFlips You’re completely ignoring the part that it’s something that is no longer possible, something patched out of the game, with no control on your part. When video games get patched, bugs fixed, and exploits removed, the old world records get scrubbed or put into their own category. They don’t stand amongst the rest, making it impossible for a new speedrunner to get a world record. That would be a massive load of horse shit, and everyone knows that. Except this time it’s a level in a video game, where Nintendo is expected to provide levels that can be legitimately beaten. You can punish yourself unjustly for being put up against something that is the definition of impossible, or you can use the feature put into the game for exact scenarios like this - skip doesn’t exist solely because levels are too hard, it also exists for scenarios where something is 100% impossible after updates and patches. With a no-logic randomizer, you accept the fact that you could get something completely impossible without cheating. That’s part of signing up for it. When an official service run by the game developers - which requires a level to have been beaten in the first place to even be visible to other players - provides a level that is impossible now due to mechanical fixes, that’s a valid reason to skip. It’s a load of bullshit and you DID NOT sign up for that. You expect to get a playable experience. That’s part of the service. This level would not have been uploaded and published for other players to play, on the current version of the game. It is impossible. If this was SMM2 and you gave up or skipped, while it was still possible, that’s a true L. That game has game-version “snapshots” that allow old bugs to still function. Lose the battle, win the war. Do you stop driving your car because you don’t know how to fix it? No, you take it to the mechanic to have it repaired. In this case, the mechanic is the skip-level feature, and your car is the game.

As someone who plays No Logic regularly, I get your stance on that patched level, under one condition however: intent. Selecting No Logic is accepting that you're alone with your wits and tricks, against whatever outcome the game throws at you, but by playing with Logic, you are entitled to the possibility of winning. This means that whether you made the right decision falls solely on you and the outlook you have on your self-imposed challenge: are you entitled to winning, or is ANY combination of bs fair game? I'm so happy to have seen simple accomplish that super expert run today. Was incredible to watch. And it sucks to have gotten a bugged level that wasn't cleaned up.
one thing i vividly remember about mario maker 1 is i made a really bad precision level and nintendo must have thought it was so back because they deleted the level and thought it was impossible somehow
It wasn't that. In mario maker 1 they'd delete levels that didn't get played. Plus, the NEW tab back then only showed the newest levels, rather than prioritizing unplayed old levels, so there was no easy way to *get* plays.
@walugusgrudenburg3068 Was it really just that? I thought it required that your level get at least 1 star to avoid the hammer. Does it work the same in MM2?
55:18 kabekitsuku- 壁キック (read as 'kabe kikku') wall kick-- kabe is wall (that complicated character) and the 3 simpler ones mean "kick" just a little tip just in case you feel like remembering a little bit of japanese to give you an edge on some level names
The title of the last level actually tells you how to do the funny spin section. "スピン全自動" means "Fully automatic spin". Lmfao. Also, the costume you got at the end there was Diskun. Diskun is the mascot of the Japanese only Famicom Disk System.
I certainly wouldn't make the same decision regarding restarting in the face of an impossible level. In all my game challenges, I have a rule that if the game being broken simply screws me over, I'll bend the rules of the challenge to account for this. I want to meet the game at an equal level, and if it's just gonna break on me due to reasons outside my control or influence, I don't mind having a clause in my ruleset that says "This wasn't my fault, it was the game's, objectively. I will bend the rules for my challenge here." However, I completely, totally respect your decision here. Because when it comes to these gaming challenges, what matters is if you can look yourself in the mirror the next day and still feel accomplished, still feel like you earned the win. Clearly, skipping would have been outside your comfort zone, would have felt like cheating. And I have nothing but respect for the decision to play the game how YOU want to play it, how YOU feel comfortable with. Hats off to you, SimpleFlips!
I don't know what's crazier, the fact that Simple keeps pumping out hour long videos or the fact that I keep watching them. Seriously, these videos have been absolutely fantastic, keep up the great work!

28:39 I think that the ACTUAL solution to this level was to time your running so that when you run into the spike wall, rather than your feet touching the spikes, you run over a hard block. Another entertaining and very appreciated video, thank you Simple! Also I really liked your analogy of framing super expert no skip as a no logic randomizer in a different thread. That made it very understandable as to why you restarted instead of skipping, because it wouldn't be fun or satisfying to you. This next bit is more for myself and anyone else doing silly challenges for fun- There is nothing wrong with changing the rules of a self-imposed challenge so you can have more fun. Especially if it is a team challenge where the challenge is secondary to spending time with your friends. And don't listen to anyone trying to tell you how to have fun with these challenges, because everyone has different skill levels and amounts of time to dedicate to the challenge. Again, fun video Simple, thank you for so much entertaining content!
People who pay close attention to these videos may have noticed that the Ethan lore has been expanding significantly over this past season. People often asked about the Toad arc and what was implied by it, but what they failed to realize was that we have already made it to the Ethan sub-plot. Now i can't say much about the upcoming episodes, but let's just say the season finale will be re-introducing a long time fan favorite. We hope that you enjoy the rest of this season.
I love all the fire emblem rep in this episode! First Shulk, from Super Smash Bros Fire Emblem, and then Ike, also from Super Smash Bros Fire Emblem Brawl!
I really love when Dad sacs 10-20 lives just to learn a new trick that has no immediate use but may come in handy someday, all for the sense of satisfaction of learning and the passion he has for schmooving. You have to admire the passion. You just gotta.
im pretty sure that "impossible" level is possible. i believe its using the chain chomp easter egg, where they free themselves after lunging at you 50 times.
That's not true for a couple of reasons. A) the chain chomp easter egg wouldn't help get you out of the box since there's nothing that the chomps could interact with once free, and B) that easter egg is only present in the SMB3 game style, the level was in the SMB1 game style. The level is obviously meant to use the vine clip.
I simultaneously understand and don't understand how the person who makes arbitrary rules about being able to run with a Link costume in Walkies is the same person who voluntarily goes no-skip every time in Super Mario Maker 1
I had fun. To "select all after," I usually just hold shift and down... I'm not 100% sure the impossible level was counting on the same glitch discussed, since that glitch uses two adjacent vines and, at the top, there was only one, but it's possible they wanted you to do the trick on the lower part where there were two vines side-by-side. But maybe the adjacency only matters for part of the vine. I know I would have been fine with a skip in this instance, especially since you were able to beat it after loading from the editor in the state they expected you to be in with the glitch. But I get it, pride's on the line, go big or go home, etc. Plus, more content isn't bad.
Considering the length of the video, I was strapped in for 30 or 40 min of trying to actually beat the impossible level. Its nuts that I was still excited to watch.
Finding the unintended solutions is why I love watching you simple. I will gladly watch 40 deaths in a row waiting for the trick that probably wasn't worth it and, honestly? Thats the kinda shit I'm here for.

@icewallowcome 🤨
cool username dude
Too bad it doesn't exist and Nintendo skipped straight to Super Mario Maker 3
What would it even be called though?
I will bend the rules for my challenge here."
However, I completely, totally respect your decision here.
Finding out about spinning into the spring after going so low on lives was cathartic
I don't know what's crazier, the fact that Simple keeps pumping out hour long videos or the fact that I keep watching them.
Seriously, these videos have been absolutely fantastic, keep up the great work!
Crazy? I was crazy once. They locked me in a room. A rubber room. A rubber room with rats. And rats make me crazy.
It's Mario Maker? What more to settle down with.
Good job on the Chicken WR
You guys do an awesome job, thank you so much.
Oops! You hate to see an impossible level, DAMN IT John Nintendo!
I hope you know Mr. Flips, I work my ass off slinging pizzas in a company car and staying to close until 2 am, and the first thing I do when I kick off my shies after my hard and long days is cuddle down with an Arizona mucho mango, a stuffed Minecraft ghast, and a simpleflips video. You're a gem
I love that we're just in the Unlockies timeline now and there's nothing we can do about it 😂
You owe us an irl mid-air, Simple.
I wanna see Simple do a midair in real life.
those shell jumps were SO fun to watch.
28:39 I think that the ACTUAL solution to this level was to time your running so that when you run into the spike wall, rather than your feet touching the spikes, you run over a hard block. I don’t play Mario Maker 1, so I have no idea if that’s how the mechanics work, but if so that would have been nuts.
Taco bell + watching SimpleFlips is kinda a vibe
This is weirdly such a nice compliment because I love watching others and eating taco bell LMAO thank you
@@SimpleFlips Of course! I've had the same routine, getting food and sitting down and watching one of your videos for the past 3 years, I started around the time Walkies started. Hard to believe it's been 3 years since then!
42:40 Dude, I can't believe you started over! such a champ!
it's crazy how metaphorical the umbrella is connected to Mario and his platonic love with princess pigeon, her wings are majestic and remind me of the warm hug of a mother protecting her own child.
Hey Simple, is the weird mushroom considered to be part of unlockies? It would be fun to see you play the 10 Mario Challenge levels.
I genuinely cannot enough of these Mario maker videos. The days without a new upload are the days I grow weary of the dark inevitable woe.
Most admirable dedication to never skipping. This man sacrificed so much for us.
2:14 There's some insane forshadowing in the phrase "Anything can happen... In one of these videos."
Hey simple, since you liked the movement on chicken feet and I known you like cs movement I thought you might like momentum mod. Its just a game with a bunch of source movement maps like cs surfing, TF2 jump maps, and even some defrag from quake I'm pretty sure. also try demon turf
Massive respect for the restart
The patented SimpleFlips integrity is truly unmatched after resetting the Super Expert run! What an absolute legend!
The millisecond i saw this a gasped and clicked on this video instantly. These videos genuinely bring me so mich joy ♥️.
simpleflips: i wouldnt just use game shark to clip through a wall
44:53 - "Simpleflips uses game shark to clip through a wall"
Waiting for the irl midair
Nintendo didn’t start doing the thing where different levels run on different versions of the game until mario maker 2
I would love to know where Simple keeps finding these things he keeps showing us.
56:37 Thanks for the shout out to my favorite french town, Toulouse. Much appreciated.
Simple just genuinely wanted to thank you for the hard work and effort in every video you release keep up the great work!!
I respect the honor of taking the impossible level to the chin and moving on.
There are so many hilarious moments in this one! Thanks for the killer content!
@@proking2354idk I'm not convinced a free chomp wasnt the answer
I simultaneously understand and don't understand how the person who makes arbitrary rules about being able to run with a Link costume in Walkies is the same person who voluntarily goes no-skip every time in Super Mario Maker 1
damn they sure did just make up a thing.
thank you always for the fun content, simpleflips!
Thank you Simpleflips for your incredible dedication to being a man of integrity
Mad respect for not skipping, even though you had the perfect reason to.
What a super gnarly "I slept with someone in falloutboy" reference.
SIMPLE!!! THE JAPANESE TITLE SAYS DONT MOVE AT THE BEGINNING!!! SIMPLEEEE!!!’ (this is me recreating the one car scene from breakin bad)
honestly i respect the hell out of that reset
Considering the length of the video, I was strapped in for 30 or 40 min of trying to actually beat the impossible level. Its nuts that I was still excited to watch.
I love these intros so much 😮
Finding the unintended solutions is why I love watching you simple. I will gladly watch 40 deaths in a row waiting for the trick that probably wasn't worth it and, honestly? Thats the kinda shit I'm here for.
Simpleflips quoting lyrics from a song by my favorite band in the intro made my day, that was surreal and awesome
that umbrella is terrifying tf
Despite the universe sending in gods wrath upon the poor foul,
Simpleflips sticks to the pride of his morals and takes the L by heart.
Truly great character writing in this arc, cant wait to see what they do next in the sequel.
Your enjoy?
That last level was why your my favorite mario dude. you do the haha funny but you also analyze what you might need to do for the level.
I do not agree with your choice to not just skip the impossible level, but I have to respect the principle.
1:04:54 this realization is insane, the fact that he thought the creator of the level was inane, but didn’t understand how the level works is amazing
The decision making present in the first 6 minutes of the video is bewildering.
dude it's wild that this game can give you uncleared levels in Super Expert
7:02 idk if he was serious but like I get that too when I play games and I can’t execute something over and over
Hahaha the claustrophobia is real
I'm glad you stuck with your standards and restarted Super Expert when coming across the impossible level Simp.
I bet you wouldn't ever hear this, but I love your guts
Gotta respect the man's commitment to playing a clean clear, even when the obstacle in his way was something entirely out of his control. Big dubs for Simpleflips
Need an Unlockies playlist so I can rewatch these at a later date, these have been some of the best simpleflips videos of all time, he’s just on top of his game every episode and it’s been so much fun
You owe me personally a mid air irl
simple you really make my days better. i was feeling awful before watching your video but hearing you just calms me down. thank you for making these videos so we can enjoy them :)
Shoutout to the editors for putting that 3D text at 47:10 I know exactly which 3D text generator you used because I used to use it for presentations at work haha
Simpleflips showing us he is the strongest character in the universe by resetting a run that was very likely to be a victory only to clear the next attempt.
