Vertigo's powers let her disorient people, making them dizzy and unfocused (so they can't use a lot of powers) and then pass out.
And Puck is agile and strong and has mystical origins. Remember that raw power isn't the only source of usefulness in a superhero... finesse, quickness, skill, smarts and luck as well as other x-factors are all part of the mix and can defeat even Omega level threats.
The guy fighting alongside Wolverine in the past is supposed to be Maverick, I believe... a member of Weapon X. And Darkstar's powers are drawn from a "darkforce dimension" even if they appear to be purple light here. She teamed up with Angel (Worthington), Iceman, Black Widow, I think the Hulk, etc for awhile
Gambit making danger room programs with Storm, Rogue and a tentacle monster...
