Beautiful spots but, boy you had to work for it! Thank you for filming your adventures and sharing them with the world, your filming and editing are so beautifully done that it makes it a pleasure to watch, and your zest for life and humor between the two of you jumps off the screen. I really enjoy your videos and ( always ) look forward to the next one.
Great video of a decent long weekend trip team. First night looks like the old Watson Hut site with that old rust corrugated steel lying around. The second looks like you were sleeping perched right on top of the Alpine Fault that runs through there! That's why it is so shaken up. The big valleys are less visited the further west you go in Nelson Lakes NP, away from TA and the Travers Sabine loop. Not many trampers go up the Durville and fewer into the Matakitaki. In summer you can walk from Mole Saddle south and drop down into George Lyon Hut. Excellent tarns along the way.
Yeah could pretty easily make this little loop a one night trip but it was nice to take out time and enjoy the new area. Hopefully November we will do a big nelson lakes loop with my brother over travers saddle then up to Thompson pass and down durville. Either that or explore some different areas of kahurangi.
@@AbelandVictoria In South Africa we use to do escarpment hikes, ascending mountain passes from 2200m to 3300m into Lesotho, and camping on the "Tops" This video reminded of those adventures
wow!!! I watch alot of your videos but this has to be one of the best! Its seems like you both are in another world! Just amazing and keep them videos coming along 😊
After many hikes in Nelson lakes I have always looked upwards at Mole tops, now I definitely want to go there! Loving your channel thanks for taking the time to produce these. Such high quality and great footage.
I was skeptical towards the mole tops. I thought there is no way is can be as good as kahurangi or even nelson lakes. I was wrong it’s fantastic up there. I want to go down the range to my Ella at some point. Thanks for the feedback I appreciate that you recognise the added effort we put in to try and produce a high quality video.
*Ol' Pete* Yet another great video guys! Without doubt yours are among the very best on UTube! I'm sure Outdoorsman Dave below, whose videos are also great would agree.
Great to see a vid of a place that has always intrigued me. Along similar lines the route from Patriarch along the Arthur Range is a great tops trip. I recommend dropping into the North Crow.
Mole tops is great. Only been once. Hopefully get back there this winter. Yeah the ridge section along from patriarch is spectacular. We did that last year perfect weather
What an awesome off track adventure, your fiancé is a real trooper, great you can share such terrain together. You’re hauling in those watch time hours 😉
Maybe the Mole Tops get their name from all the dimples on the ridge, looking like the entrances to mole holes. For you Victoria... Molly molly Moolllle....
@@ABCampingTony true big effort to get up there. Even upto your tree line spot is a decent mission. Thanks for tuning in. I think one of your videos was a catalyst to me wanting to make videos.I remember you saying once to just get the phone out and record if you feel like it so we did. Thanks for the inspiration looking forward to seeing what you do next. Ps i love the rants great to see someone speaking out lol.
Its a bit freaky going somewhere new isn't it. I used to live on the edge of Mt Aspiring NP for many years and the area is like an old friend to me. I've only been up here in the Tasman region for 2 years and have been doing lots of exploring but still adjusting to my surroundings. Kahurangi has already found a special place, and then theres places like this in Nelson Lakes, I mean, crikey!! Aghhh so much to do. We are so lucky. Thanks for your videos and inspiration. 👍 PS. Went camping above Granity Pass hut on Sat night with my summer tent (brrr) and all I could think about was that Big Agnes tent of yours. Might have to invest. 🏕
Yeah we feel very comfortable in kahurangi although still heaps to explore. We are planning a big trip into nelson lakes in November should be epic. Was there any snow up at the hut? Surprising how much warmth a tent can give. The big Agnes is awesome love it.
Went through Nelson College a number of years back and did this route for a school camp. Nelson College has a lodge just near the start of the Jameson Ridge track. I remember when we did it we all had to sleep under a tarp in the pouring rain for a week straight. Enjoyed it but always been keen to go back with better weather.
I seen a cabin in the bush maybe it was nelson college hut? It’s awesome up there And the camp spot at the top of Watson creek is beautiful. Definitely going be going back to the mole tops at some point.

lol, I must have pitched on that spot 20 times.
I want to head back and do a trip down the entire Ella range at some stage. You should go right up the tops again for a summer camp would be great 👍
