- On September 10th, Huawei launched its first triple-fold phone, the Mate XT Extraordinary Master, which excited many patriotic 'little pinks.' However, this phone soon became the subject of various online jokes. People said it could cover your face while making calls or that holding it feels like carrying a brick. Others commented that it looked more like an imperial edict than a phone for everyday use. But among all the criticisms, one stood out as the most sarcastic.
On the evening of September 13th, Zhou Hongyi, founder and chairman of the 360 Group, posted a video on Weibo. In the video, he compared Huawei’s triple-fold Mate XT to the iPhone 16, saying Huawei's hardware innovation was far ahead of Apple’s. He added, "Whether you’re pretending to make a call to hide your awkwardness or using it to cover your instant noodles, Huawei's phone is more useful."

@@xxdesertstorm nonono, I got an Android phone, and i would not considerate buying a fooldable phone, especially a Samsung with their bad UI. I'd prefer using an esthetic and solid Iphone 16. Usually, iPhone can last some years. I would say that their biggest flow is the price (especially if you want a lot of storage)
I've never used my galaxy fold unfolded to make a call. You always close it.
Think about the extra thickness from the third screen and how it might be holding next to the ear.

@@iamslf that's actually my guess as well, but i find the Huawei route a lot more appealing. Also it's crazy to me that the mate XT is already a finished product and no mere prototype. Like the rollable thing will be just as vulnerable, just as expensive to produce, will never be a proper tablet and is even less tested than folding devices. If that's really what they're betting on then that's quite the gamble imo. Samsung really built a cult following with their foldables just to then leave us alone :)
@@Terrorbrot at the end of the day, i think these are all just proof of concepts for a more well rounded product down the road, even the foldable devices already out. slab phones still dominate, not purely because of cost, since there are now flips that are relatively affordable, but because foldables don’t really offer anything new to the mass market outside of niche use cases. i think battery tech is what’s holding back advancement, because the idea is to make these devices as malleable as paper. the components outside of the battery are now small enough to have a device that can be crumpled. batteries are still solid. that’s the problem.

Samsung may not have a tri folding screen out, but the Z-fold came out in 2019 and is on iteration 6 now. I have two coworkers and a friend that have had them for over 3 years with no issues, but some people are harder on phones then others I guess.

The last phone they made had the camera running 24/7 so that it would see QR scanners and automatically provide a QR code to access your bank account. Thing is that it would work with just a picture, so a scammer could tape the picture of a scanner to the back of their phone, run the camera and swipe it over your phone and now they have access to your bank account.

A 10 inch screen unfolded is more than enough to use on the go and while its folded its smaller in size than the Iphone 16 Pro Max. Its certainly pricy, but that's how technology is when you're the first on the market of that design.

While it is a meme, I can see people using foldable phones as small drawing tablet or use it to play mobile games.
The problem would be durability, ease of use and repair costs. Phone bending can also be a problem if you use it regularly.

I'm not biased. I've heard it sold really well compared to iphone 16 in China. The cpu power is between night and day but the trifold display screen is a revolutionary design. While most android smartphone companies already debut their foldable smartphone, Apple still decided to stick with single screen display. Most iphone 15 users still refused to buy and upgrade to iphone 16 because the specs is almost the same.

Look I hate the CCP too, but this phone is taking a leap into foldables that no other western companies dared to in the past couple years now. Good on them. A leap into something no one can afford, nobody asked for, and that makes no sense. Also, those "slight upgrades" now give them PC class performance and now most all of them come with some kind of cooling system, so yea... Huawei is WWWAAAAAAYYYYY behind in silicon. I would say that with the release of A18 Pro and SD8G4, Kirin is now looking like a child's toy being some (at least) 5-6 generations behind. I mean they're still using Mali G78 MP24 GPU's (not to mention old ARM designs)! That block size isn't even feasible. Google uses Mali, and in the OG Pixel 6 they used G78 MP20 and it was a disaster. Everything throttles the moment anything intensive comes up because it gets intensely hot.

I own a Huawei flagship. Usually I agree with this channel on much of what comes out of China being crap. That said, their camera tech is impressive and the Mate XT is revolutionary when compared to the warmed over garbage that Apple and Samsung produce. The only reason I wouldn't buy another Huawei, at least at the moment is due to the lack of 5g modems (that work outside China), and the fact that the workarounds for the missing Google Play apps are frustrating at times. That said, Xiaomi, Honor, Oppo, One Plus all produce excellent devices, at least at the high end.

@@kamsunleong6648 I have investigated them before purchase, I used to repair phones and resell them. I did a great deal of research on them from other repair shops and reddit groups, they mostly all say the same thing, those phones are unreliable and are prone to breaking. Feel free to get one yourself, fix it and see how long it will last you. Your experience might be different but I'm not willing to make that financial investment.

As a current fold user, it takes a real idiocy to even think that you should take calls on these foldable phones with the screens unfolded, unless you are using the loudspeakers and not pushing it against your cheeks.
Foldable phones are a bad idea in general until they have developed a much sturdier material for the screen protection that can bend.
