I'm an hour into the video now, but it helped me get my first win after a few days. Sometimes seeing a more experienced player doing things and explaining his thought process is beneficial. One of the big things is I learned from the vid is that economy is more important than I thought it to be. I just finished a run with two jokers that had mad money-making synergy : the Faceless Joker that gives you 5 dollar when you discard 3 or more face cards, combined with Pareidolia (all cards are considered face cards). Using a flush strategy, that made me a lot of money per round, which in turn allowed me to buy and skip a lot of booster packs to power up my red card joker. Thanks for posting this, will definitely watch more of your vids
I had almost 60 hours in the most recent demo alone when the game finally unlocked. Probably had almost 120 hours between the various demos since I learned about it in early November. Already seeing some spicy new combos and anticipating combining stuff from the different demo variants.
Haelian 😭 After watching this video, I finally got my first win. Always really appreciate these kinds of videos where you explain the thought process behind the decisions - i've been here since Hades came out so you've been hard carrying me until now across multiple games 😆 Thank you and cheers!!
@Haelian You help me especially just by showing how you play/prioritize. I liked learning that you play 'one-handed,' trying to win each blind in a single crazy play if possible to maximize $. And so you naturally lean on discards to start. You always get rid of as many cards as you can at a time. You prioritize lower-number cards, and chase certain hands. This ... feels like the way the game was meant to be played, now that I see how beautifully it capitalizes on Balatro's poker-breaking potential. Thank you. I was still in the awkward process of wrapping my head around all this, and you've gone and done a good chunk of that wrapping for me.
Haven't finished but it looks like you don't try it: I think if you duplicate photograph instead of the face card retrigger card it goes: Photograph is duplicated and triggered twice on the first face card, then the face card is retriggered, making photograph trigger 2 more times. So you would get 4 triggers of the X2 instead of 3
Could be a total coincidence but while watching this video, I finally beat ante 8 on a deck I have lost 15+ runs in a row on. So I'm going to choose to give you all the credit! Shout out to a king. I'm new here and just subbed, you're a really cool guy and I like how you interact with your chat. I don't bully backseaters but you give them just enough information for them to realize that they don't know what you know, it's beautiful and I'm going to stick around and watch the other balatro videos now. Thanks again for the great tips.
@Matrioth it was mostly where I focused my strategy that allow for this tolerance. Skipping blinds that give polychrome jokers early are good I think due to the based chips that allow for easy early flushes with the base 4x mult. Then essentially the idea I hold in mind is that I'm trying to keep as much money available to me as possible. I only reroll the store if I feel like I have a very low chance of beating the next boss OR I have my rerolls discounted from a voucher or a blind skip. Every 5 gold you "waste" on a reroll could be made up for by just not skipping the blind to get a refresh on the store and get more money. Also, I wasn't buying enough packs of cards. Spectral cards can impact your deck in HUGE ways that make getting certain hand types easier. Those helped me get better, but maybe all my advice is wrong and I've just been lucky, but to answer your question, that's what I've done.
When you had just one face at the end of the hand, the duplicate was better on photograph because it triggers 4x instead of three. The only case I can see duplicate being better on the "replay all faces" joker is when you played a hand with 3 to 5 faces I guess for the synergy with the hearts multiplier. Am I missing something?
5:00 Got this game yesterday and I'm loving it. I find this is a bit of a theme with the card descriptions though. There's a lot of ambiguity, and I find myself just having to test things to see if the text means one thing or another. One example is the "max" for doubled money. It's not clear whether the maximum is the final total, or the maximum amount that can be doubled. ie: doubles your money (maximum 20) could mean you can double maximum of 10 to 20, or a maximum of 20 to 40.
Man i got a killer combo this morning. One of the new jokers adds a x3 multiplier if you play a hand twice in one round. Also the one that lets you sell cards (jokers, celestial and tarot) for x.5 mult. Grabbed a Double Tag and a Pair Orbit. I was getting Pairs worth $20,000 before i got knocked out by a boss blind that only lets you play a single hand, and if I'd read it probably I'd have kept going.
I had gotten a foil even bonus joker and foil odd bonus joker + the sold multiplier joker and a club bonus joker. I was basically unstoppable until I got a boss that disabled clubs when half my deck was them and it was so fucking joever then.
My question would be, if you trigger a glass card multiple times because of Jokers, does that mean that one in four chance of breaking get triggered multiple times?
@1:33:10 Why does he skip the hand level up? I realize it's not the straight flush upgrade he probably wanted, but surely any upgraded hand is better than skipping it? and at that point you've already paid for it so why not just take it? Just trying to understand the plays as a non Balatroer (not backseating)
Why do we keep dropping the wild kings when we’re going for straight flushes and face cards? Seems like the best card you could also for for this build be H keeps discarding them!
I beat the game on easiest difficulty with five different decks by now and I think I played about 10-12 hours, but still watching this to see how someone else approaches the game because while I generally know what I'm doing, I suck at expontential growth, I had a game where I had +200-300 dollars constantly but by ante 10-11 I couldn't keep up with the blinds. The joker combinations just weren't working out.
Ahem! Can you do a video on the demo for "Meta Ghost: The Breaking Show?" I think it's right up your alley. I also saw someone play a demo for "Slashers Keep" maybe that one would be interesting for you as well. Thank you regardless. Love your videos and streams. 🖖
Omg that sucks, it's really brutal when the boss has the exact power to counter your build. But sometimes its the other way around and your build makes the boss's skill irrelevant
@@borz8328 no you can’t because the creator showed me the code and he has it listed at 88% which is retarded and not actual stats… I had an op deck with basically unlimited power and lost due the discarding cards running out and yet again nothing but pairs and 2 pairs… the game needs adjusting and I proved a lot of people wrong on their discord
if Haelian becomes a full time Balatro streamer now i will not complain tbh
i fucking love this game so much

Thanks for the kind words, congrats!!!
I learned to play Hades from you, then I learned sub-10 min Hades from you, now I'm learning poker on roids from you. Goated.
Played the demo last night and couldn't stop playing. Played 6 hours straight. Can't wait to get home and play the full game

using the different sorts (suit/rank) to deduce the face-down cards isn't something i'd thought of! lots of useful tips in here
Played demo for 50+hrs and 1.0 for 20hrs haven't won a run, lol. thanks for the help!
Just gotten into this game and lost the last 6 hours of my life! Real good to know it's opened up a whole new section of Haelian videos to watch too.
Absolute banger of a game. Thank you so much for introducing me to it
this isnt a tutorial this is you just playing the game

10 hours in I kept getting stopped ante 7. After watching your video I focused on money economy and shot up to ante 11! Thanks!!

Wouldn’t the joker @ 01:29:20 trigger per card played? Not per hand? So 1 hand could have yielded $35 factoring in the debuff?

Nice I got the legendary joker that gives x1 mult whenever a face card is destroyed. Made it to ante 11 before I couldn't scale enough

in my experience, the 1 in 4 to break only happens after the entire hand has been scored, because the card doesnt shatter until the score is counted.

We have the Red Card joker so skipping = +3 Mult

I love the artwork in this game. So much soul.
I downloaded this game tonight and couldn’t stop playing for 3 hours. My fucking back hurts.
Play on Switch or Steam Deck so you can lay down lol. Game also supports controllers

I think not understanding a lot of what the jokers do is keeping me from staying consistent
why on 1:38:20 you had a STRAIGHT FLUSH if you had a spades queen ? ?

Literally has a royal flush available at 1:56:28 and puts the steel 9 in his hand instead of the king!
I *really* like your hat!
Greeen joker is one of best jokers in the game
how is chat saying campfire is bad? that's an astonishingly stupid take lmao
I hate this game changed a lot of my card and 4 to make a flush only to get it debuffed

oof
Red card breaks the game! It levels infinite ♾️
First
I don’t think the rocket is good at all and the other joker is much better
The early game you want an engine that generates money whether that be a gold card, stamp or another joker that can generate more money.
The constant pairs and 2 pairs kills this game it’s not even funny to play
You can always go for things that aren't pairs or 2 pairs if it's killing the game
