      @@eL--RaL Alvarez and Grealish are valued at nearly the same price in the transfer market because Grealish is a homegrown player and minimum homegrown quota rules have created a separate transfer market. Homegrown player’s transfer market prices are artificially inflated because British players only make up about 30% of the Premier League these days and each side is required to have a minimum number of homegrown players. So homegrown players with actual utility have more "value" per player in their smaller market. The maximum squad size per club is 25 players. There is a maximum of 17 non-"homegrown" players allowed in each club. Which means that in a full squad of 25 players, there must be at least eight homegrown players. And 8 divided by 25 comes out to 32%. Which just so happens to be the homegrown percentage of players in the Premier League. Without the homegrown quota the reality is virtually the entire league would be non-British players at this point.

    I'm really disappointed with Mario's opinion because I was expecting the other two to be unaware of Simeone and how Atlético played last season, but not him. Atlético did a great job offensively, scoring 70 goals, creating 121 big chances (only 2 fewer than Real Madrid), and hitting the woodwork 18 times (same as Real Madrid), etc... but they were terrible defensively. It’s clear they haven’t watched a single Atlético game recently, as they’re still discussing Atlético’s style from 2-3 years ago.
    They also claim João Félix was ruined by Simeone, but that's not true. Joao had many opportunities but was very inconsistent-sometimes due to injuries every 3-4 games, and other times because he performed well only once every 5 games. This inconsistency was also evident at Chelsea and recently at Barcelona. Is that also Simeone's fault?

    @piscesman54 Месяц назад +36

    You people are all missing the key point here. Alvarez's priority is Argentina. And he knows that in order to keep his place in the Argentina squad, he needs continuity. He is not the kind of player to remain in his comfort zone and be content to win trophies he hasn't really been a part of. As Mario says, he's a very versatile player, but that doesn't mean that he can play a different role every week, and then be given a vote of no confidence when the big games come up, like Pep did. That will kill any player's motivation.
    As for his role at Atlético, he can very well play as a double striker with Sorloth, who is strictly a box striker. Alvarez can play anywhere up front and even fall back and engage with the midfielders if necessary. This makes it very hard for defenders to peg, because you never know where he's going to show up. I wonder if it ever dawned on Robson that his versatility is precisely his main talent. There are a lot of one-trick ponies out there, Haaland among them, and you need one or two of those in any team. But versatility adds a lot of value, especially when you're playing in several simultaneous competitions. In a team like Atlético under Simeone, known for playing defensively and on counterattack, Alvarez could very well prove to be lethal with space, given his speed, quick and smart decision-making, and skill with the ball. Just take a look at his solo counterattack goal against Croatia at the WC. There was no stopping him. He may not be Messi, but he played and trained with him, and he's smart enough to learn from the greatest. And last but not least, as an extra bonus, he'll be playing with 4 of his teammates from the Argentina squad, whom he knows very well.

      I don't think the national team was a factor in his decision to move to Atletico. It's clearly a lifestyle choice. He will be in a country where they speak his native language, and he'll be working alongside many of his Argentine compatriots. He was getting games for Argentina while he was at City, so, he's definitely not leaving City to improve his chances to play for Argentina. He's a household name in Argentina at this stage.

He didn't play in his preferred position at no. 9, so that's probably why he wants to go (because he understands that Haaland is still better than him at no. 9), but saying all that bs about him not playing big role in the team is complete nonsense. At this point, I have to come to terms with Barcelona signing Dani Olmo. The way in which this football club is ran and managed genuinely needs to be studied because on paper, it’s a good signing since he’s an excellent player who’s criminally underrated and is coming off the back of some brilliant performances for the Spain national team during their title winning run at the EUROs as he was the joint top scorer of the tournament and he is incredibly versatile and can play in both attacking and midfield roles and he’s going to add another option to their team since having depth and quality is important in a long season where they’re going to be playing a lot of games meaning that these teams need to rotate their squad regularly, he also gives them a different element in attack something that was lacking at times last season, but from a footballing perspective, unless they’re able to have success in La Liga and the champions league and they make it all work, I really don’t see how this signing makes sense.
    As good of a player he is, given the financial situation they’re in, he doesn’t fix some of the issues that they have and they’re paying 60 million for him, Barcelona still have some holes that needs to be addressed as they’ve yet to properly replace the greatest CDM of all time as they don’t have a proper defensive midfielder or an elite winger. A lot of people will say that “Olmo will play as a number 10” which is his best position, but when everyone is healthy; they already have Pedri Ilkay Gundogan and Fermin Lopez who are all capable of playing as attacking midfielders, meaning that they’re going to be in a situation where they paid a lot of money for a player only for him to play out of his natural position since he can play out wide, but he’s not a winger. Also, are we forgetting that the guy is injury prone, he consistently misses a chunk of games in a season as he’s always injured and he isn’t consistent, Barcelona’s biggest issues have been injuries recently and they already have enough inconsistent players and they’re adding another injury prone player to a team with players who struggle to stay healthy. Because their initial plan was to sign Nico Williams and they won’t get him, he was their backup option and it’s a gamble that could either work or prove to be a detrimental signing for the team. He is an academy graduate from La Masia and he has been linked with a return to Barcelona in recent years and it’s always a great thing to see a homegrown player return to the club and obviously in Olmo they’re getting a talented player who’s an absolute baller and he has the potential to succeed there especially if he stays fit.

    Gallagher should start in a 4-3-3 with 2 holding midfielders. He's a midfield engine, highly useful in both ends of the field (more so attacking). Alvarez will start most matches but Sorloth will get his share of starts as the manager should Rotate as much as possible to keep the players fresh and hungry. Nowadays with 5 subs allowed no player should feel hard done by if not starting but getting in off the bench for 25-30 min of action in almost every match.

Why do you think a club would send a £120 million attacker on loan in two consecutive seasons?!?! Félix is crazy inconsistent, and I can say that even when I am a fan of his too… Simeone can adapt accordingly and keep true to these younger players that are still malleable, especially Alvarez and Gallagher.

    The devaluation of Alvarez’s quality by mostly English pundits is exactly why he is leaving. Being 2nd fiddle another player makes any player seem not good enough even if they could very easily be the starting player at any top 4 European club team. Imagine if Neymar was stuck on the bench whenever Messi played… I’m not comparing playing styles but rather than people fail to realize that Man city did something that many other teams don’t do, keeping an elite starting player as 2nd string. The reason they could do this was because of their recent strategies for recruitment in South America where they have been eyeing key players in their teenage years and keeping them under contract while they play their last few years in South America (aka what they did with Alvarez and now with Echeverri) so it guarantees that they have those players while not ringing tons of alarm bells to other clubs that they spotted someone great so that other clubs can come in with counter offers. So they score these TOP global transfers for the original low price from years ago bc they quietly identified them earlier and locked them in a contract.

    Going into the start of every season, nobody takes Atletico Madrid seriously as actual contenders to win La Liga even though under Diego Simeone they’ve won some league titles here and there, off the back of a subpar season, they’ve made some moves in the transfer window so far hoping to compete for the title this season. On paper, they’re nowhere close to being on the same level as Real Madrid, I personally think that Barcelona are slightly better than them even though we don’t know what their team is going to truly look like under Hansi Flick, they’re a team that isn’t short of talent and they have strengthened the squad with the potential signings they’ve completed and are about to make. They’re not known for playing the most attractive brand of football, sometimes it has been good enough to get results under him.
    They’ve signed Robin Le Normand and Alexander Sorloth, someone who’s an excellent defender and we saw how good he was with the Spain national team at the EUROs and they have one of the top scorers in La Liga last season and in their attack, they’re adding Julian Alvarez who’s a very good striker and has completed football despite being 24 years old and Connor Gallagher is also joining and while he’s not a world class midfielder, Simeone values his profile as a player and he suits the way he wants the team to play. As I said before they have some existing talent on this team as well. Even though he’s getting older, Antoine Griezmann is their best player and he has been in terrible form in the last 12 months, Rodrigo de Paul is an elite midfielder and is a key player on a team that has won 3 consecutive international trophies, Jan Oblak has gone through a decline in the past couple of years, on his day, he remains one of the best goalkeepers in the world, Molina is an underrated fullback. We don’t expect them to win the league, but Atletico Madrid have more than enough quality in their squad to challenge for La Liga against the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid and make a deep run in the Champions League because they shouldn’t be settling for 3rd place every season and if these new signings can fully click and settle in the team combined with their core players being in top form and Simeone is able to get the best out of everyone, I could see them achieving big things next season.
