I agree. If she was going to take that stance she shouldn’t be charging her rent. All that money should be going to savings. She should’ve also encouraged her to become a psychiatrist, nurse practitioner, or at least a psychologist vs a social worker. She will always struggle financially unless she has lucrative side hustles.
It's such a dumb line in the sand to draw. I also hate to say this but it's also one of those 'poor to rich' person chip on the shoulder. That second mom is so harsh. Shes charging her daughter rent and has such a brutal mentality. Id expect her to grant her daughter some grace considering she sounds like shes been through a lot herself.
I'm gonna assume the rent she pays is probably 400-600$/month if not less. Which is fair considering how expensive bills/groceries can be. 100x's better than paying 1k(probably more with how expensive rentals can be) rent+utilities/groceries and not being able to save money for emergencies etc. I thought my parents were being harsh by charging me rent until i moved out and had to pay my own bills. I'd rather my parents charge me rent so i know im contributing something and not being a financial burden. If the parents were charging her a ridiculous amount I'd see it as harsh.
Well charging her daughter a very cheap rent does teach her to use her money more responsibly- a lot of people have a habit to blow off their paychecks when they don’t have to worry about rent or bills, but i could see it both ways

literally, idk why everyone is giving him such a hard time, we share online spaces with teenagers and we need to remember that just because we expect them to somehow have a grown mindset, they're gonna still think like a 16yo at the end of the day! i was practically delusional at that age about my life plans & we can acknowledge the same thing will happen to him that happened to us but idk why people are being vindictive about it lmao

The amount of comments I’ve seen about people talking about this kid are weird! I too thought I’d be on my own at that age, life happens. He’ll grow up. Chill.
Rather than talking crazy about a literal child or hoping life “humbles” him, let’s just hope his perspective changes as he grows up. Let’s be real, we all thought we’d live alone at 18 because we weren’t paying any real bills.
Bro is half Asian, he’s going to be hanging out with his parents for sometime lol On a serious note: Some of the reasons Asians tend to still live at home is because it comes from pressure from the parents. It’s not only following cultural norms, but expectations to stay and help the parents, especially if they are immigrants/refugees. And Asian parents don’t necessarily value independence the same way western parents do. They emphasize reasonable and safe choices (ie: it’s reasonable to live at home and save money while you go to school and work vs struggling to pay rent & bills. Which can still be responsible & independent actions, just not the freedom independence of the latter.) This makes sense when you consider any hardships or tragic history they’ve gone through that they would implement this on their kids. And also, there’s a communal aspect of cultures who live within multi-generation households.
yup, not only can i not afford to move out but i feel guilty leaving cuz my parents need me to do SO MUCH for them and even though they physically/emotionally abuse me i feel bad leaving them to fend for themselves cuz they truly refuse to learn

Depends on the situation. I have been in between jobs because I had a gap of a month as I switched companies (to get more money). One of my friends was as in between as he knew he was being let go due to the company being bought out but also knew he was getting a nice severance so it was 3 months till his next company (the same company weirdly but different somehow) was going to onboard him. To note he made more in his severance than if he had worked that time. Just depends on the situation but most of the time it is cope.
nothing is wrong with living with your parents, especially in this economy. as long as there is mutual respect & privacy, this is exactly what i’m doing at 30 in a week. i have a career, but i had little to no support when i moved across the US. as long as your mental health is improving & you have a great relationship with your parent(s), ain’t no shame in the stay at home game. obviously, results may vary.

In this economy I don’t blame people who live with their parents. As long as you’re helping them pay bills and getting your life together. I live alone now and it’s so lonely
Why is everyone so doubtful about the expression "being between jobs"?! This is known to be a more neutral definition of unemployed, which has a negative connotation. It should give a feeling of that simply being a phase which is quite common to experience in contemporary society.
I’ve worked 40 hours a week, gone to school full time for seven years, and just graduated with my masters degree. It takes a few months for me to get licensed as a therapist (LPC) so I don’t have the ability to make enough money to move out just yet. I lived at home during college to save money. I have no school debt and a small amount of credit card debt. If someone have me 100 or 1000 dollars, I would put it straight towards my debt. I love this video because it breaks stereotypes. I’m not someone who just lays around and plays video games and doesn’t work. I made smart decisions to make my future better. Is it hard sometimes living at home at 25? Absolutely. But will it be worth it one day? 100% - 2 degrees and no school debt is already worth it!

It's crazy to assume that just because an adult lives in the same house as their parents, that it must mean that they are dependent on the parents. Personally, we just got lucky that they bought a house before they blew through their retirement, so now we split the bills and provide for ourselves separately. Everything isn't so cut and dry, gain a little perspective.
I graduated from college in 2018 and kept living with my mom until 2022. I have multiple disabilities and it took me longer than many of my peers to leave my home. Even now, I would be homeless if it weren't for the help i get from my parents to afford my tiny apartment - I literally can't get a full-time job right now because I can't afford to lose my SSDI yet. The fact that so many of these people still live with their parents makes me feel a little better. I try not to be too hard on myself, but I don't have a lot of hope for my future (even though I have dreams and goals).
Judging people based on if they live with their parents is weird. It’s expensive out here. As long as you don’t depend on them then it shouldn’t be so taboo to live with them. Honestly it’s a privilege to even have parents to go to and live with in a way.

@ 5:33 that mom who said her daughter couldn’t come back home, she won’t work as hard if I’m her back up plan… SO GROSS 🤮 normalize not praising “Survival mode” I was immediately turned off.
Statistically people who have options and a safety net are gonna be better off in the long run. People who've been generationally middle class or above know this.
Right?! Thinking constant survival mode is good is far from a healthy mentality :/
As someone who didn’t/doesn’t have a backup plan if something happens, i agree with you. It’s tough because I’d be fucked if i lost my apartment or my job. My mommy isn’t gonna have a place for me to go, she doesn’t even live in my state. I’m expecting my first in September and he will always have a place to go if something happens.
Well charging her daughter a very cheap rent does teach her to use her money more responsibly- a lot of people have a habit to blow off their paychecks when they don’t have to worry about rent or bills, but i could see it both ways

the girl with the piercings is insanely gorgeous!! she’s also super kind
Bro is half Asian, he’s going to be hanging out with his parents for sometime lol
On a serious note: Some of the reasons Asians tend to still live at home is because it comes from pressure from the parents.

“I’m not unemployed I’m in between jobs” isn’t that the same thing, or is that just cope?
no wonder she got divorced
Depends on the situation. I have been in between jobs because I had a gap of a month as I switched companies (to get more money). One of my friends was as in between as he knew he was being let go due to the company being bought out but also knew he was getting a nice severance so it was 3 months till his next company (the same company weirdly but different somehow) was going to onboard him. To note he made more in his severance than if he had worked that time.
Just depends on the situation but most of the time it is cope.

Even now, I would be homeless if it weren't for the help i get from my parents to afford my tiny apartment - I literally can't get a full-time job right now because I can't afford to lose my SSDI yet. The fact that so many of these people still live with their parents makes me feel a little better.
