I Took a TINY TRAIN by the LAKE in POZNAN and Discovered an Old Fort in the Woods.

  • After leaving the Cathedral Island in Poznan, I crossed a bridge into a part of the city. Here I found a quiet part of Poznan, with several works of beautiful graffiti art. Later I crossed a big road and found a lake in the area. There was a tiny train here, which rode around the lake. I purchased a ticket and met a Polish woman and here daughter. It was the little girls Birthday and they were going to visit the zoo. After that I explored the nearby woods and came across an old fort, likely used during WWII.

Nice video Kerry. Love all the sights and sounds of nature. Been to Poznan once or twice back when I was a child. Most of what I remember is the old town square, the castle and my parent's friends house.
Looking forward to your next vlog.
    Take care and enjoy.

Thanks Mark, it was fun taking the little train by the lake. I met some great people on the train and finding that old fort in the woods was really exciting.

Ypu were quite close to the zoo entrance (100-200 m) when you got off the train. If you were planning to go to the zoo, you took the wrong path. Anyway, great to see the lovely nature.

I knew the zoo was there, but I was not planning on going there. I didn't even know where the train was going to. The nature was beautiful and relaxing.

When you crossed that red bridge leaving cathedral area, you went there where original Hyćka restaurant recomended by that firefighter. Some other restaurants there are also worth recomendation e.g. Libanian one with entrance through the kitchen. ;)

I live by this lake only on the other side. There are three lakes in Poznań. Nature? If you had a bike you could ride 40 km through the forest form this place or along the Warta river to the Wielkopolski National Park (about an hour by bike from here :) ) and there are forests, lakes and beautiful nature. Poznań was a fortress. The zoo is partly located on the site of the bunkers. You live in Wroclaw and from there it is close to the Sudety Mountains - Lower Silesia. There are many beautiful places to visit, national parks such as Stołowe Mountains, Karkonoski NP but not only. Have a nice stay in Poland

It sounds like a beautiful place where you live. I'm a city boy and know very little about going into the woods. So from my perspective this was nature. I would love to see more, but I'm afraid that I'd get lost somehow. Maybe inside a national park I'd feel safer. Thank you.

Oh, nice to see the Malta lake! The whole area is pretty cool - there are a lot of sport facilities and the lake frequently hosts some international rowing and canoeing events. It is named after the Order of Malta | Knights Hospitaller, which used to own that terrain and maintained a commandery in that area (established in the 12th century, lasted until the partitions of Poland). The lake itself is artificial tho.
The train you took sometimes uses an actual steam locomotive btw!
There are a lot of forts and bunkers all around the city. Mostly Prussian ones, but many were re-purposed during WW2 I think. The biggest one is Fort Winiary (aka Cytadela) which currently is a giant park in the middle of the city. As for other ones, some have guided tours from time to time.

Thanks for much so much cool information about Poznan. I wondered what the name of the lake was, now I know. 🙏🏻
