I'de love to see the Dickie Pride , or the Johnny Kidd issues of this great series. They've never ever repeated them. Thats the BBC for ya though. Thanks for posting : D
by the end of the 50s cliff Richard was probably the biggest star, Tommy Steele and Lonnie as Well, although Tommy wasn't doing much rock and roll by the end of the 50s. Lonnie sold more records in the 50s than any of them, but he was more Skiffle/ music hall. Billy fury was around the same time but got bigger in the early 60s. Anyway good times
It's interesting how these stars give various different versions of event's, here Marty is laughing about being Called Marty Wilde, but in other interviews I've heard him say, I chose the name Marty from a film, I'd always liked that name
Listening to a couple of the songs he sang I recognized Rockin Robin and Honeycomb from American radio and a song Elvis Presley made famous!! So is he the original singer of these songs?
vduncan54 No he isn’t.His recordings were largely covers of US hits by among others,Bobby Day,Dion and Belmonts and Ritchie Valens. His biggest UK hit was ‘Endless Sleep’ a cover of a US hit by Jodie Reynolds
If only it had been Marty Wilde who had met up with Hank Marvin & Bruce Welch, rather than Cliff Richard, how much more authentic and convincing British Rock n Roll would have been.
Had the pleasure of playing guitar with him in 1976, was overcome!
Marty is not aging as an artist, hes still a great singer...and very social nice guy as well.
Seeing Marty at the Tivoli in December , can’t wait . Love this legend.
