Hi Fifi. Remember they were really young, and this was their first album. All those cheesy songs you didn’t like, were their “cute” and romantic songs, since their fans were mostly really young girls. You will notice a big difference from XOXO to Exodus. Still, their musicality and skills are there from day 1, regardless of taste. XOXO is my least favorite album, but it contains some of their most legendary songs.
That was D.O. at the end of XOXO with all those ablids. He slays in the live! Also I wasn't a fan of Lucky either, but once I watched the live performance of the song it grew on me. 😭
I love Don't Go the most, because if you listen to it back in then 2013, you feel a huge nostalgic vibe whenever you listen to the song now. It actually never gets old, and one of the anthem in kpop even though it's a b-side track.
This is that typical, freshly debuted, boyish, cutesy concept that boy groups tend to debut with back in the day. But you could probably already tell that their vocals were already so polished and refined and they had the potential to do so much more, beyond that "1D bubblegum pop" music. Hopefully you'll keep reacting to EXO's albums because you'll start to hear more of their mature sound, especially from EXODUS (2015) onwards!

Lol I knew going into this that a lot of these songs wouldn't be your type! Don't worry, the EXO albums onward are lot closer to the types of songs they now do, starting from the Overdose mini. This first album was like half-EXO half-One Direction, and I'm so glad this is the only album in their discography that sounds this way.
Yes EXO have evolved through the years and they've done it so flawlessly and the EXO way and it gets better and better each time. I love them and I'm so proud of them.😭

I think you should react to Heart Attack VCR now. It shows them backstage & it's all shot in one take. The Korean version also has Tao & the Chinese one has Luhan & Tao both (not Kris bcz he had left EXO before their first concert). Which means Chinese one is old compared to Korean one. You should definitely watch it...it's just so cute. I love the VCR for this song a lot. Whnever I want to listen to this song I just chose to watch VCR. Also all those songs that you didn't like much Lucky, Peter Pan, 365...I think you 'll start liking them after watching their live performances from their concert and same with Black Pearl & Don't Go these songs have very beautiful dance especially Dont Go...as Dont Go's Korean title is 나비 소녀 (naabi sonyeo) & 나비 (naabi) in Korean means butterfly so they do this beautiful hand movement..I think now I m just spoiling a lot. The theme of the album is fairytales. Lucky sounds like a cheesy song bec it really is cheesy if you see the lyrics 😂 which is why i love it hahaha I’m so attached to don’t go because they sing this and angel at the end of concerts. It’s a mixture of feeling of sadness that the concert is ending and also the happiness because exo usually looks at the crowd and smile an waves and it’s like we connect with them during the song more

Just so you know, with this first album, the songs you didn't like were the same for me, the ones you did like, same for me, my favorite album is EXACT, but I think you will really enjoy watching EXO- Heart Attack VCR - Korean version (this is the best one!) since you heard the song. VCR are videos they show the audience while the group changes, rests, getting ready for the next set. Plus this VCR is nicely done, showing what kind of life a Kpop idol has backstage, underground, year in and year out, for Exo 7 years. I would kinda hate that airport/hotel scene day in and day out when they tour. And remember it's fetus Exo. Btw, so good to see your face and hear your voice again. Love your nails!!♥♥♥

Now you need to watch the individual videos for Baby Dont Cry live version and concert version of Heart Attack. There are 2 versions of BDC..Kai/Lay/Sehun or Kai/Sehun. I prefer the 3 but both are breathtaking.

Baby Don't Cry and Growl are in everyone's top 3. I mean, if you're sane. I think you'll like The War album. Sweet Lies and The Eve are on that one. The War and its repackage have some interesting (and unexpected) B sides (see: Going Crazy). I'm particularly fond of Forever.

EXO's albums actually mature as EXO themselves mature. That's why most of EXO earlier songs feel so nostalgic to me. It's like growing up together. If I first listen to it now I might not like it as I do.

Actually The XOXO album matched their ages 19-22 years old I always get happy when they perform Don't go Peter pan or 3.6.5 ..the performances are so cute and heart warming

Aw, so good to revisit XOXO/Growl. I'm with EXO since day one and when I listened to this album I felt the same way as you did just now. 365 and Peter Pan spoiled the album for me, but it has gems such as Lady, Baby Dont Cry and Don't go (for me), so I can't help but listen. It's different for me to hear the EXO-K version, because Lay is my bias and I prefer EXO-M initial discography (besides there's Chen in it too).
This album is one of my most beloved albums because it brings me many, many memories. I met EXO when I was young 12 or maybe 13 Now I'm 22 and this album literally makes me cry
In all honesty I get why you didnt care for those certain songs, but for me they are some of my favorites. 3.6.5, Peter Pan, Dont Go, and Lucky are some of my favorites because of their Elyxion concerts. They would sing those songs at the end as they walk away or just in between so they grew on me so much because of the emotional attachment I have to them. You're entitled to your own opinion babygirl, dont feel bad.

i remember loving the whole album when i was 17 lol.. now i am 24 and i still do but bc its nostalgic and i mostly speaking for those chessy early 1d-ish songs haha. 365 was a nono since the beginning tho, thank god i saw the live performance.. it didtn gave me a reason to download the song but i dont skip when i listen the album all bc of the nostalgia. i guess i loved that much bc i was so naive since i didnt knew how much they can actually do as artists and bc i was a teen haha.

Aw, so good to revisit XOXO/Growl. I'm with EXO since day one and when I listened to this album I felt the same way as you did just now. 365 and Peter Pan spoiled the album for me, but it has gems such as Lady, Baby Dont Cry and Don't go (for me), so I can't help but listen. It's different for me to hear the EXO-K version, because Lay is my bias and I prefer EXO-M initial discography (besides there's Chen in it too).
This album is one of my most beloved albums because it brings me many, many memories. I met EXO when I was young 12 or maybe 13 Now I'm 22 and this album literally makes me cry
In all honesty I get why you didnt care for those certain songs, but for me they are some of my favorites. 3.6.5, Peter Pan, Dont Go, and Lucky are some of my favorites because of their Elyxion concerts. They would sing those songs at the end as they walk away or just in between so they grew on me so much because of the emotional attachment I have to them. You're entitled to your own opinion babygirl, dont feel bad.

looool i knew you wouldn't like 365 and peter pan because of their very bubblegum pop 1D vibe BUT i will say that one of the reasons why i love them both is because when EXO performed them live they always had the biggest smiles on their faces and it just makes me so happy, which is why those songs have a special place in my heart - also Black Pearl is one of those epic lives songs you're right lol
