Man I love this TL since seeing it in a magazine during high school, I really loved its aggressive, edgy, expressive and sleek lines so much that I want to have a diecast car modded to look like that!! In fact, this last TL made the current TLX look sleepy, low profile and obsolete IMO, and becomes my 2nd favorite Honda sedan after the FD2 Type R!!
When It first released I hated it but years later I fell in love with it and recently bought one. I think it has the unique front/back and will compete with today's car technology.
They look more appropriate now because all these new cars are designed too aggressively and are trying too hard to look futuristic. The 4th gen Tl's design was unfortunately too ahead of it's time but at least it got better with age.
I just bought a pre-owned '09 with 180,000 miles. But this car hasn't aged a day. Most people I talk to about it think it's a car 7 or 8 years newer. Mine was well maintained and starts, sounds and runs like a much newer car too, though this may be a testimonial to good maintenance. The interior is modern, even by 2020 standards, and I was surprised to find a lot of current features I wouldn't have expected fo an 11 year old car. It even has real-time weather and weather radar! I'm still trying to figure out how to buy into the AcuraLink account, though it's not a must have. I dont know if the timing chain has been changed in this one yet, but I was told it's something to be aware of with this car. But this thing is a quiet idle, and when I kick it in the ass, it understands what I'm asking it to do. Oh, and the SH-AWD makes drifting on Missouri roads a blast... ...people have told me ;-)
May be looking at getting one of these to replace my old, tired Jeep Grand Cherokee (of course I'd get the SH-AWD model)... this video is the first thing I searched for when I found one for sale in my area... glad to hear John and the crew had a lot of praise for the then-all-new TL!!! :)
i love this car the styling is bold it will look new a couple years later.. ppl hate on it for not being a "safe" design it stands out i LOVE the angles on all there cars

Don't be afraid to be different...everyone and their mother has a 3 series cause they are cheap as fuck and they are basic cars...nothing special about them. Audi A4 is another one. Acura TL Is a 5-series and E-Class competitor. Honda/Acura knows what they are doing. They make a car thats drivable in the winter (FWD) and that has great gas mileage for its weight and HP. TL is different and very few people have them which makes it admirable in my view.
Stopped on the way home from the office to look at one today. The ONLY thing questionable about this car is the grille. The rest of it is FANTASTIC. If you can live with the grille..........GET IT !!!!!!!!! Interior is PERFECT.

I really loved the "beak or shield" look, those semi quad tips are classy. I found a 6 spd sh-awd with just a little over 100k miles. Do they all consume oil?
Check the specifications. They are still very close. Just because a car is bigger on the exterior doesn't mean it isn't meant to be the rival of another car that might be smaller. Acura's whole reason behind making the TL is to be a competitor of the 3 Series. If I have $45k for a car and want to buy either a BMW or Acura, I'm gonna look at the 3 and TL. Cars are compared based on price, body style, general size. A fully loaded TL is still over $45k.
How are they not comparable? The 335i's specs are very similar to the TL's when looking at wheelbase and interior specifications. The RL is 5 series level. The TL is made to be a competitor of the 3 series and therefore is similar numbers-wise, hence the close price range and target buyers.
I'd say the styling is much better, and Acura is striving to create a cohesive brand identity when It comes to styling. The grille is part of that and really, I approve. It looks great and powerful and heavyset, like It is pumped up and ready to take down all the other luxury sedans out there, and still at only $35k

I really wanted one with manual gearbox, but they are rare, very hard to find and also expensive, they kept the value. Ended up with an 15 Accord v6 manual. It's not the same.

This is the only car I'd consider buying if I were not going to buy a 3 series. BMW is unbeatable w/ the 335, but Acura has their shit together. Love how it looks and love how the previous TL's drive. Way to go Acura.

I've had 2 Acura's so far and I have no idea what you're talking about. I've had a 92 Legend and that car was great! Currently a 92 Vigor. Check out used Acura's, and you'll still find them with 200K+ that run great. I wouldn't buy a BMW with 200K+ if it was half the price of the Acura. Torqueless? You must be driving the wrong Acura.
I hated this thing the first time I saw it, but now I love it. Don't get me wrong the 04-08 especially the Type-S were sexy as hell, but this thing looks more modern. I"m telling you, I saw an 09 black TL with tinted windows and it just makes the old TL look outdated. In 8 months, I'm going to the dealership to get the SH-AWD model, if all the press that I read is right and the 6-speed manual is available for 2010 (the end of 09), keep an open mind guys, this car isnt for stop-light dragging
I one time, Acura's line up had high output engines for their displacement and an overall sporty nature. They weren't rear wheel drive nor did they have a V8 option. However, their automobile line up was full of light weight and very conservative but elagant automobiles that were beautiful. Now Acura has the UGLIEST cars in the market & some of the heaviest cars in the market. Acura, I was willing to purchase your automobiles bc of their eleagance- minus their short comings. No more.
The TL probably have similar sizes with 5-series and E-class, but the build quality aren't comparable. The closest TL rival is Lexus ES or Audi A6, both have FWDs, not RWDs like 5series / E-classes.

But Honesly the only thing a A4 can give you is the look. i mean i like A4 but there are better cars for the same price and yes the look is amazing but it doesnt have the reputation of a TL. I agree! I had a sweet '88 legend with manual & the sweetest '92 legend I ever laid eyes on.... what I car. I now have a 2007 TL I just gave my daughter and I absolutely loved that car. I just got a 2014 TL SH-AWD and I am in freaking love!!!!

The Acura TLX shares virtually nothing with this Acura TL, a whole new platform, all kinds of advance safety features, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, automatic braking, lane keep assist, this generation TL had none of that
Actually the TL is now the same length as the RL and it's 2 inches wider.... So idk 3 series specs but this car is big. DEF bigger than a 3 series. Look at it in person and SIZE WISE and im only saying SIZE WISE... Its comparable to a 5 Series all day. BMW's are great cars... there's no denying that but for the price of a loaded TL, you get a lot of bang for your buck. Also.. the technology in the TL blows away the Bimmer. Just my opinion.
I love the techno-gadgetry interior, i like the rear end, and the side profile. But man, that is one fugly front end. the grille is too big, the lights are too small, and evrything under the grill and lights just looks like a big wall. Performance is good, and the luxury and safety seem pretty good too. However, as good as this car is that front end just ruins the whole thing
@zackbify134 as do I, only problem is lol I can't decide whether or not to get a used G37x Sedan or a used TL Type-S pre-2009, both are pretty damn quick and the engines sound great, especially with an aftermarket exhaust!! Would be a tough decision at that. I was looking at a G8 GT too but dammit if I ever for some reason don't have my suv around and have to drive that RWD bastard in the snow, i might just be F*cked trying to get to work haha.
My opinion is the opposite of yours. I've always think that the G35 and G37 look like amorphous blobs without character, and look fat from behind. The new TL looks so sharp and angular!

The '07 TL is way too similar to the TSX, '09 and up TLs all the way, in fact my 2nd favorite Honda sedan after the FD2 Type R.

The headlamps looking "angrier" don't really make the car look agressive since the grill that looks like its smiling...
Bad then bad now…I stopped buying Acura for a decade during this styling phase. I’m back with the 2024 TLX Type S.
