That happened to me in 2003 on BA Club World. It actually was from LOS- LHR. I was booked upper deck 64A. The flight attendant became hostile to me. I called the BA staff who made the reservation and they confirmed the woman, who was Nigerian was booked on Economy Class with her daughter who looked 8 years old. The FA didn't bother to look carefully at the woman's boarding pass from a previous flight. The woman tried to give herself a free upgrade. The idiot FA went red in the face and tried to laugh it off after being nasty to me. Ground staff had frogmarched the woman and her daughter down.
Mind you, I made the mistake on Lufthansa from Frankfurt to Lagos. We were in first class and the person who should have sat on 2A happily sat on my seat 2K because I was suffering from sub zero temperatured fever, which left me a little confused. What was key was the attitude of the Purser who calmly and quietly got permission from the rightful seat passenger before informing me of my mistake. I offered to go to my seat but the matter had already been meticulously dealt with - what a professional! Having grown up in Nigeria before transferring to secondary school in England, people could try to be racist but I was too confident in my African heritage to be bothered by them; I just considered them unenlightened. I also had an integrated upbringing with many nationalities because of my father's work at the NPA, so I was used to a different attitude of the expatriates in Nigeria

It's bad enough if this happens to a solo traveller but 1000% worse if you're traveling with your 12 week old child and your elderly mother. The airline is really at fault for this ordeal and yes if the perpetrator was a Nigerian, they will not hesitate to bring armed Marshalls to drag you off the aircraft.

It would be scary if there are loads of Karens in Canada too. I have never experienced it. The worst thing that can happen as a victim though is to be walked off a flight by the ground crew/security. The simple response would be that the Airline wants you off this plane and you have to comply. Your complaint will then only be addressed after causing inconvenience of a missed flight. They Should have taken that lady off the flight. The FA did not sound firm to the lady at all making her aware of the consequences. The flight crew are also under alot of pressure to leave on time to avoid fines and missing their slots for take off.

Sassy as an African American I can tell you that was DAMN racism and discrimination. A nursing Nigerian Woman, Black Woman with her Baby, cannot get proper assistance for the seat she chose and paid for. She had a right to show her anger had she chose to.
So far I only had one personal incident.
    DC-Atlanta-Lagos.
Delta Airlines. I always choose aisle seats. So when it was time to board by the time I got to my seat
an older white lady was sitting there. I said sorry but this seat is assigned to me. She said there are no assigned seats “Honey Chile”. You can just sit by the window. Atlanta, GA the South and that dismissive tone with “Honey Chile” and telling me where I can sit. Sassy I could feel the heat rising in my face. So I knew that heat feeling in my face was NOT a good sign. I put my carry on in the storage above. Placed my purse strap on my shoulder. I said see this boarding pass, what does it say? She answers. What seat are you sitting in. She answers. Then I said in a low voice only she could hear, “So You Move Your A**to the window seat NOW HONEY!! GET UP!!! She hurried her decrepit self to that window seat. After that she was very polite when she had to go to the toilet. I was polite to her too after that first encounter. She tried it though.😂
I am very polite normally in my life, but I am NOT pacifying this type of behavior.

How incredibly horrible to be treated that way! Black, white, or any other colour. The response to the black lady who told the flight sttendant the problem should have been, "Thank you for bringing this to my attention." Then turning to tge lady in the incorrect seat, "May I see your boarding pass please?". Then show the white lady where she should be seated and, if she refused to move, insist that she do so. If she refused to move, have the captain come to insist or put her off the plane. There was no need to tell the black lady to calm down; she was calm, even though she was not being served properly. It is both racism and discrimination, discrimination on the part of the cabin crew as they are also people of color and were afraid to stand up to their white superiors, racism on the part of the white woman who I believe made a mistake in sitting on the wrong window seat but did not want to be corrected by a black African and felt that the Nigerian woman was well below her to point out her error so was to proud and pompous to stand up. Sadly nothing is going to happen to the white woman it's the Nigerian woman and the cabin crew that will take the hit. Instead, they are an embarrassment, even the employees are not treated very well

Sassy.. I think we need more info about this incident. Now, remember some airlines would not allow you to seat on the exit row if you have a baby. It could have been that reason because it absolutely makes no sense not to have her in her assigned seat.. that goes against the main premise of seat assignment in the first place and the airline cannot be that daft or condescending, no way. Just pondering here.

    • @SassyFunke

It wasn’t an exit row. The airline apologized and offered a refund of her ticket.

That's not the justification to put her through that ordeal. They could have explained the reason to her right there instead of telling her to calm down. It wasn't the crew members that change the sit. The entitled woman decided to stay put. Let's call a spade a spade. The whole incident stinks. The crew members acted unprofessional. Returning the ticket fare is not enough. They need to be taught a lesson.

@cezani Her assigned seat was the window seat, not the aisle seat. The person sitting in her seat should have been instructed to move, and find that person another seat, next to a window. The Mother with her nursing selected and paid for that row, that particular seat for a reason.
It is very clear what happened. It was very inappropriate for the airline to offer her a refund and another seat. The appropriate thing to do was to ask the person sitting there to move. “PERIOD FULL STOP”.

Sometimes, I often sit back when I hear our black people cry and complain about racism in a white man's country and they forget where they are simply because I know deep down, they will not help and see us as potential steppers in their country. Its like begging to be in their spaces. I have seen this in many places.

First, I would double check to see if we both had the same seat number on our boarding pass and since I fly alone, I would be happy to move to another seat. I blame the Flight Attendant also for not having the common sense to ask to see both tickets. For me the Flight Attendant was totally out of line. She could have easily confirmed the Mother paid for that seat. Every empty seat is not the right choice for a nursing Mother. The window seat is way more private.
