Well heck Buddy, if you keep 'em around you can weigh your shop down so it won't blow away in a storm! ;-) 73 - Dino KLØS

Hi Buddy, owned two of these for years. They were the cats meow in their day, but by todays standards they drift constantly. LC oscillators with no PLL. Can't help but drift.
Not to mention they take up a ton of bench space, weigh a ton and use a lot of power.

Good to see you man. I know you are living the dream over there. Yep, they do drift for sure. Thanks for stopping in.

The coil, which seems to be bent is part of the design. In my project, i also found this: ruclips.net/video/5qwcFZ5yMoM/видео.html
My guess is, that this was made to reduce the magnetic coupling to the shielded case. (only my guess.....)

Looks like it works somewhat well. I'm sure you can tune it up to work very well Buddy. :)

Those are awesome older units..... I could have gotten one for just the shipping , from NY state that would have cost about 100 bux .... I could have gotten some other things for the same deal .... I waited until I got the HP 8656B ,,,, now I need a LM338K regulator for it , It's in the place of the 5 volt regulator .... Why ? I have no idea ... Take Care Mon Ami ....

I had one of these years ago and have regretted getting talked out of it ever since! Yes, they are large, but once it's warmed up it is ROCK solid, accurate and dependable. As long as you check the calibration once a year it's good to go. Mine even had the water proof pressure compensated shipping case still with it.

What a beast. In my (limited) experience with old HP gear, it usually doesn't take much to have them in great shape again.
