  • Australia is probably one of the toughest countries to live in if you’re a coaster enthusiast. Not only is our market incredibly underserved, but flying elsewhere is incredibly expensive, making any overseas trip to ride quality coasters and pick up credits a costly exercise.
But we do have 26 operating coasters at the moment, as well as a number of recently-defunct coasters that were absolutely fantastic, and a few of those are definitely of note. I’ve ranked my top ten coasters in Australia, having ridden most of the 26 at this stage with only a few to go.
Without further ado, this is my top ten coasters in Australia.

Not counting distance to other countries, Australia has a very solid lineup. Big Dipper, Steel Taipan, Abyss, Superman, and DC Rivals provide Australia with several thrilling and unique models with plenty more rounding out the lineup. Compared to countries like Canada, Spain, Brazil, and even India, Australia in my opinion reigns supreme. That's to say, the United States, Japan, China, etc. all decimate it.

For our population and distance from the rest of the world, we're doing pretty well. What makes it difficult to be a coaster enthusiast in Australia is, as you mentioned, distance to other countries, and lack of quantity. But we do have some great coasters! Thanks for watching!

While what we have in Australia may seem mediocre compared to places like Europe and North America, we still have far more here then many other parts of the world. For the landmass, isolated location and small population, it's outstanding.
Spare a thought for New Zealand, which has only one coaster that was built in 1985. Plus, our coaster scene is expanding crazy fast, with about 7 new coasters popping up around the country in just the last few years. It's definitely an exciting time.

Totally agree, DC rivals as no 1. Riding backwards is well worth paying the extra $30 and is much more fun. Having this option makes it like two totally different rides. Not to mention you you won’t have to wait long in the reverse seat line.
I have ridden the Leviathan and this is a great coaster, the way they have designed the whole entry to the loading platform really sets the mood. Something you need to see for yourself. Needless to say, there is something about a wooden coaster that is hard to match. There is a reverse facing option as well. I haven’t tried it myself.

superman escape looks like of those not-quite rita clones that intamin built in the '00s. surprisingly many of the accelerators follow that launch into figure-8 with s-hills type of layout, this one obviously has the extra top hat and has sacrificed the last bunny hill because the station is placed differently so they could put in the dark ride section before the launch.
in this sense, even something like formula rossa is basically just scaled-up rita. it just has a lot of extra hills in the end because it has to make a very long way back to the station, but the basic idea of the layout is the same

So I just got back to Melbourne from a trip to the Gold Coast and I did a quick trip to Sydney back in May. So now I've now ridden all of the Coasters on this list except for the Tower Of Terror. And yeah DC Rivals is on a whole other level. Scooby Doo was rough.
I don't know if I was just annoyed by the fact it was my longest wait of the trip. So by the time I rode it. I found Superman Escape not that great. I didn't like the restraints too. They were banging into my neck.
Sea World's Coasters were great. I can't for Leviathan. I reckon it'll be the number 2 best Coaster in Australia.
Dreamworlds Coasters except for Steel Taipan were awful. Gold Coaster gave me a headache and was the only Coaster to make me feel nauseous. Motocoaster is just bad in everyway. The family Coaster was the 2nd Coaster in the park
I'd rank my top 10 so far
    1 DC Rivals
    2 Steel Taipan
    3 Big Dipper
    4 Jetski
    5 Green Lantern
    6 Storm Coaster
    7 Superman Escape
    8 Thunderbolt (Defunct Dreamworld ride)
9 Metropolis (defunct Luna Park Melb ride)
10 either the roadrunner Coaster at Movie World or the Boomerang Coaster at Luna Park Syd
BTW the new Coasters at Gumbuya World are Project Zero and it's where the Buzzsaw has been relocated to. It has Green track now. The other is T.N.T a Verkoma suspended family Coaster and has the same layout as Dragonflier at Dollywood. Victoria needs better Coasters but!

DC Rivals is by far more intense than Steel Taipan. I agree Taipan is quite a smooth ride, but Rivals has a lot more forceful elements, particularly the airtime. Highly recommend them both though. Thanks for watching!

Did you ever ride Arkham asylum before they removed it? I personally would have put it before superman if it wasn’t so bumpy as it was in its later years but I think it was definitely an amazing coaster worthy of the list! And have you seen the announcement of 2 new coasters for movieworld sadly they will be family coasters replacing Arkham but atleast we will have some new coasters to try

    • @MaloneysCoasters
      @MaloneysCoasters  Год назад

Yeah I did ride Arkham! Personally, I find roughness to be a personal pet-peeve on roller coasters. I found Arkham to be really tough to ride, but I do understand why people liked it. It was super intense, and I loved that, but I couldn't get past the pain!
I'm very excited about Movie World's new coasters! Hopefully I'll be headed up there when they open!
