Man 1982 is gonna be a crazy year
It already has been lol

I have a feeling the 40s might be a bit shaky.
Did you see the trailer for that Blade runner movie? Crazy yo
My birth year ruled for movies and instant classics
Really, REALLY hope someday Netflix realizes it's mistake of not continuing its Dark Crystal prequel series and does a second season!
This film is an underappreciated work of art. Here's hoping Netflix will rectify their mistake.
It’s so sad because if they ever continue it. The full cast probably won’t be returning.
I agree. They shouldn’t make that mistake when it’s something very precious to us
I really enjoyed it and wanted a 2nd season so bad. 😭
Honestly that one season was great and ofc its amazing that we even got in the first place with the PHENOMENAL cast and production and model-makers, animatronic/puppet operators getting to work again. But yeah since Netflix has a strategy of instant cancellation becuz profit margins show series dont ever do better after season 1, we wont get it, and since they own the rights apparently they’d rather let the copyright rot away in their storerooms unused.
This comment thread is making me so happy! Here I thought I was the only one who’s loved this movie for 40 years. No one I know even knows what it is, let alone has seen it or loves it. I was 9 when I saw it in the movie theater with my grandmother. 40 years later I’m going to a local stage theater to see it again on the big screen. I’m a little bit too excited. LoL. 🤷🏻♀️😀❤
How was it
Ohhh lucky you ! How was it to see it again on a big screen ???? I think all children from 70s and 80s love this movie. I'm French and went to see it with my parents, brother and sister. I was 12. My own children love it. We all loved the Netflix series too, so sad they cancelled it. Don't know why... Jim Hanson's studios are absolutely amazing.
Sadly, they cancelled it a day or so before the showing. I guess they didn’t have enough people coming to see it🤷🏻♀️ I was super bummed!! ☹️
@@nicolemazza1971 ohhhhhh such a shame !
My mom shared this movie to me and my older bro when we were kids. This was one of those movies she was so fascinated with. I have vague memories of this movie, like I'd recall bits and pieces of it from time to time. Like mostly from the forest scenes and when the evil vulture creatures spoke to one another. Very weird but fascinating movie indeed.
This movie was a prodigy in my house. It was told to me for years that I looked like Gelfling’s. As a 46-year-old adult I can see it now.
I've got a feeling I saw this as a very young kid some time in the '90s. I just remember some weird spidery creatures that hide from sunlight or something. I remember being slightly freaked out by it.
Same i recall the crystal being shaped by the elders so vividly
This is my childhood! I adore this movie!
Seen the show?
@@Johnlindsey289 I know from today's standards it's not your typical kids movie but you must remember than in the 80's our entrainments was very different and sometimes way darker and lot less sterilised compare to now.
And maybe that's why many 80's series and films have been remade and many series and film are based in the 70's and 80's.
Me too. 2003 baby and I remember watching this movie often.
Born in 1977.... I was slightly horrified by it. 😄
@@berserkirclaws107
The prequel show manages to be as dark as the movie and edgy too yet has a sense of humor and some action to it and goes more into Thra's history
I’ve seen both Dark Crystal and Labrynth on the big screen. Good times. Seeing Goonies as a kid and an adult in a theater are by far the pinnacle of theater experiences for me though.
Never got to see em in theatres but Goonies and Dark Crystal was the pinnacle of my upbringing, even if it was on the small screen they were so fundamental to my childhood such amazing films
@@GuineaPigEveryday If you have AMC theaters near you constantly check the weekly listings. They constantly play old movies at a select time each week.
@guineapigeveryday
I’m going to see this in a theater in my town in two weeks! I’m so excited. First time seeing it on the big screen since I was a child.
Amazing film from Jim Henson! I wish Netflix didn't cancel the prequel series, Age of Resistance! Even if it's getting darker as the crystal itself, I wanna know how this all leads to the events of this movie!
Seeing the emergence of these “80s Dark Fantasy film” imaginings of other franchises…
That is what I think of defining that genre. Long live the dark crystal 💎
Funny, to me the 'dark' port of that descriptor seems unnecessary. Any fantasy except the most sanitized of fairy-tales should have a hint of the ominous in it. For me this is just fantasy, and a great example of it too.
This is a masterpiece in terms of puppetry. I love this film, it's an amazing work on art!
Fun fact: Henson and his team took five years to make this movie (Meaning it started in 1977 and ended in 1982), employing cutting-edge puppetry design and technology. Some puppets were radio-controlled, while the hulking Skeksis were controlled by six puppeteers each.
Born in '74 ....seen this at the cinema in Perth WA
Such a fantastic movie and show. The movie especially is one of the most immersive ones out there. Every time I watch it I feel like I am in the world of Thra.
Few movies then or since have managed to create a whole world from nothing but the imagination, talent and work of its creators. Thra is wholly new to us as viewers and yet resonates with a sense of truth about it.
We were young, once.. Children! And so innocent..
A great time to be a child in!
Happy 40th anniversary, and thank you Jim Henson
My teachers used to play this in English class in high school. I was pretty cool.
My birth year was an amazing year for movies as you had instant classics in sci-fi and fantasy like blade Runner, The Thing, Star Trek 2, Tron, ET, Halloween 3 season of The witch (it’s sci-fi outside horror), Conan the Barbarian, The Dark Crystal, The Beastmaster, Sword and the sorcerer, Secret of nimh, the last unicorn and flight of dragons.
Happy 40th to one of my favorite fantasy movies since four and a classic and looks fab on ultrahd 4k
Happy 40th Anniversary to The Dark Crystal!
When practical effects, good acting and stories was enough to entertain. Unlike today's overused deep fake, Ai and cgi compounded by mediocrity and banality results in a travesty.

The 4K for this movie is beautiful
I really miss the 80's, which is a bit strange given that I wasn't even born until the 90's.
I had the most amazing childhood ever; 80's childhood was the most amazing, and this movie was an integral part of it. People who didn't live through those times will never know how it felt/was.
Feels like it was another planet, that we lived in.
It really did. Breakfast infront of the tv with Ninja Turtles and Dungeons & Dragon cartoons. Then out on dirtbikes all day and then watch one of the many magic movies like this. It was so safe and so much fun, my crew of friends were all different colours and shapes and creeds and we never even mentioned it once..just the way it was.
@@steinhvik3057 exactly like that.
@@steinhvik3057Magic Movies options: The Dark Crystal, Conan the Barbarian, Conan the Destroyer, Labyrinth, Excalibur, Krull, Clash of the Titans, Highlander, The Neverending Story, Caravan of Courage, Willow, The Secret of Nimh, Fire and Ice (amazing), The Black Cauldron, The Sword and the Sorcerer, Ladyhawke, Beastmaster, Dragonslayer, Wizards of the Lost Kingdom, Battle Beyond the Stars, Dune, Terminator, Alien... so many incredible, amazing options.
And, in the TV; Dungeons and Dragons and He-man cartoons; V; The A-Team; Knightrider; Magnum; best ever
Such elusive and dreamy times of mankind where the 80's. And yes, it was all about living life outside too, riding bicycle and running, and playing games with friends.
Remember when people used to actually take pride in practical effects and set building instead of making every single character and piece of background out of computer graphics? The only time you ever see anything even remotely similar anymore is with live stage performances. It's kind of sad that we'll probably never again have films with the same level of care and effort put into them.
In 1982 they didn’t have much of a choice now did they , if they had CGI they would have used it, while it is admirable they produced what they did at the time, dont think it was deliberate , they had no CGI to fully realise the world
This was a film that I watched constantly as a child. I was absolutely engrossed with everything about it from the world to the characters. Age Of Resistance was an absolutely perfect continuation of the story, even going so far as to expound upon the lore itself, and it's a damn shame that it was snuffed out so early
I was thought this movie was a fever dream I had
I saw this movie when I was a child and I was terrified.
Almost everyone was
You’re not the only one
A work of art this film. Was overjoyed to share it with my 6 year old niece and she absolutely loved it
This was the first movie I ever saw. I was 10 years old and my mother and I watched it together. I was so scared in some scenes but it was also fantastic and epic and I loved it very much.
Happy 40th!!!!!

This movie slapped so hard🔥🔥
I didn't know the title of it, until now. I watched it in 90s and was fascinated at the same time scary.
Seen this at the movies when it first came out. I was 7 good times, miss being a kid.
Amazing movie

R.I.P. 🪦 Jim Henson
Nothing has been more unique ever since
I’m 43 this year. So I was two years old when this came out, I could only imagine how awesome that would have seemed to see on tv! Can’t wait for Disney to pick up Season two of Age of Resistance!
I love this movie !!!!! Please bring this back best childhood movie ever
Wish the series wasn't cancelled.
Even now this looks incredible.
This movie is so darn underrated!
This movie is legendary and cool, but it’s like a fever dream x10! 👀 hahaha great times watching it back in the day.
It’s sad that the Netflix series got canceled
movies from this era were gems
Watched this as a kid many times . Whenever it was not rented we always asked to rent it and did so many other times ...
Maybe a remaster and return to theaters?
I still have this movie on vhs.
This looks like a IA publish meme with Hide on background omggg!!!
And the soundtrack is just one of the best.
The curious thing is that some 80's movies where made to scare kids a bit.
We enjoyed getting scared a bit. And yes the score (which helps with the scary and ominous atmosphere) was done by the talented but rarely name-dropped Trevor Jones.
I remember this movie this my childhood too
This movie is a fever dream. I feel like i watched it but at the same time i cant remeber
I remember going to see this when it came out. I even took my little sister to see it another time.

Another world another time in the age of wonder!!!!
I love the special effects back then. So much better than CGI garbage, nowadays.
Amazing, my favourite movie!🌟🙌
Amazing stuff.
I LOVE THE DARK CRYSTAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HEHEHHE I REPLIED TO MY OWN COMMENT👾
Appreciate this so much more now. I just marvel at the sets and practical effects. Creature designs. In a lot of ways, more impressive than what they did in Star Wars.
I was 4 / 5 when this came out amazing film. Now I'm doyou woke I see and feel how Jim portrays the skeksis aka judenrasse so perfectly in this film....
Cis, for a moment there I thought I'm getting a notification about dark crystal season 2 😩
I need a prequel of this
One of my favorites
I just always loved labyrinth
Awesome
Thank you to share this trailer of this magnificient movie 🙏😍 Netflix had a good idea to realise the first season but a bad idea to stop after... This serie is nostalgic and original. Many productions have mixed these two aspects badly but this is not the case for Dark Crystal !
Sony, when you propose to realise a season 2 of the serie Dark Crystal : Age of Resistance ? :) With the same equip of the first season 🤩
Awesome!
They really pulled no punches with the occult back then.
A true masterpiece
Dark crystal is extremely excellent and very awesome ever I really don't think I ever seen this movie is absolutely amazing ever I really think it's really my favorite show ever I really think it's really interesting and I really think it's really unquie

I was 8 when this came out and I quietly had a crush on Kira. *blush*
I had a crush on Jen
I don’t know if it was mentioned, because I am too lazy to look through the comments, but I don’t recall that scene, in this movie trailer, where the Skeksis light the fire? Must be a deleted scene?
bring back my childhood memories 😍

Happy 40th!! Originally released by universal 🌎
The Dark Crystal was interesting to say the least, but the most memorable thing to me was the funny noises from the bird looking creatures and that the crystal looks like the power crystals from Crash Bandicoot games.

i thought this movie was a bad fever dream
This shit fucked me up when I was a kid. I owe this film everything for starting up my interest in fantasy.
I never knew Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal (1982) was released by Universal Pictures. I thought it was released on Disc and Digital by Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

It was originally distributed by Universal Pictures, so they retain theatrical distribution rights, but the film’s ownership and copyright are controlled by The Jim Henson Company, as they purchased the film from ITC Entertainment in 1984.
