Such a sweet history about fragrance and how it can really help people out of dark times. Scent is so important to our brains and I don't think a lot of people really think about that. I feel like more than anything, a scent can transport you to a place and time.
I was first intrigued by fragrance in middle school - the smell of BBW Cucumber Melon was suffocating in the halls in the late 90's. We would beg to go to our (very rinky dink) mall to go to BBW. i don't think many girls wore actual perfumes when I was in school, it was mainly BBW. And I my mom didn't wear perfume nor any friends' moms. I lived in a rural area that didn't have legit "rich" people.
I wasn't interested in actual perfume until my summer trip to VA in 7th grade to visit family and my aunt wore CK Escape. I asked her to spray my sweter all over with Escape before I left and I put it in the back of my closet and would bury my nose into it.
When I was 18, my grandma said "let's go get you a nice perfume, you should have one" and took me to Dillard's and I immediately said "I wan't Escape!" my grandma said that was a mature perfume for my age, but I insisted. But then I wore and it gave me a headache every time But during occasions, I would risk it. I still have that half-full bottle from 2003. Then I thought I was allergic to perfume so never bought or smelled a single one until I was 38 and bought Bright Crystal EDT and didn't get a headache!! Then all bets were off! Now I'm super into fragrance and started watching some YT fragheads.
Longer story than I intended to tell, but thanks if anyone reads this Maybe someone has a similar story.

Omg I love you Olivia... I too have a fragrance past/history. My 1st fragrance memory was when I was about 4 or 5. I had gotten into my grandmother's perfume because I associated fragrance as being ultra sophistication and beauty. I thought if I put it on i will be beautiful like my grandmother and mom and all my aunts and cousins. (I come from a huge italian family) SO I literally oversprayed a gallon of Windsong perfume and Ceasars and White Diamonds... I am dating myself... 70s/80s baby. I stunk so bad but I thought I was the most gorgeous glamorous 4 yr old in the world!! Lol 😆
My 1st "BIG girl" perfume was Estee Lauder Beautiful... I wore it to Elementary School everyday and would fight my sister if she went anywhere near it! And I also Still to this day wear DKNY Be Delicious and thought that was the most sophisticated scent when I was a teenager.... Wore it for years everyday..... still in my collection but because I am older I can smell the synthetic Ness in it!!!

If it wasn’t for my husband showing up in my life, and supporting me on my fragrance journey and blessing me with a son…I wouldn’t have the collection I have now. I’m so grateful for him and my son. Love's Baby Soft was my first fragrance. But by junior high I was wearing Revlon Charlie. Paloma Picasso was next. I was a chypre girlie from the beginning.
My first adult fragrance was CK Obsession which I didn't really like but it was the biggest thing when it released so EVERYONE had a bottle.
About 15 years ago Love's rereleased Baby Soft and I bought purely for nostalgia. I was surprised at how strong it was compared to fragrances of the era.
Fragrances of the 70s and 80s were not shy!

I’m a little bit older than you are, cause I definitely had a mid 90s Sunflowers by Elizabeth Arden era, just before Clinique Happy took over my life in 97/98. There was also the B&BW Cucumber Melon clean girl scent era. I was 21-22ish when I found D&G Light Blue. I went through a Marc Jacob’s Daisy phase, and missed flower bomb. I may need to go back and try it. Although since I was introduced to you, Steph, Roxy, and Noelle I’m trying every niche fragrance I can get my hands on and not even worrying about designer fragrances. 😂

I was born in the late 60s so a lot of the fragrances we wore in jr. high and high school were chypres and heavy, white florals. The chypre DNA by today's standards is VERY mature and loud. But to my nose they are cozy and comforting. And aldehydes. Omg, we loved us some aldehydes.

lol I was born in a hospital that was inside of a nursing home and was surrounded by little old ladies and their heavy perfume 😆 and to this day I’m a sucker for a white floral, my mother likes to say I like the “old lady” kind of scents 😂 what can I say but it makes me feel good when I wear it. I’m not a gourmand girly by any means but I am enjoying the more sweet and playful scents as a grown lady 😂 as ironic as that sounds lmao.
I still have a bottle of dolce and Gabbana light blue that I wear lol it’s the one designer scent that I knew I wanted and could afford it’s extremely nostalgic for me nowadays and I don’t wear it often anymore.

I was 21 or 22 when Euphoria came out and I remember we had to drive a 90 mile round trip to get to a town with a department store that carried it! Which we did, just based off of me smelling a paper sample in a magazine and loving it. Luckily I loved it on me too and I was so obsessed with my find. I loved the scent AND the fact that really no one around me would have it due to how far we had to go to get it! Ah the days before the prevalence of online shopping 😆 I wouldn't say it was my "signature scent" because I have ALWAYS been a fragrance girly with multiple bottles of different stuff at once but it definitely was my favorite for a few years. I actually repurchased it a year or so ago and I still love it 🥰

Since you mentioned having been in Germany I hope you visited Cologne... the birthplace of Eau de Cologne ;)
Many people actually think 4711 is the original, but they just had bigger marketing and the smell is terrible. It's basically a grumpy old lady scent. If you haven't and are ever back in Germany: Farina developed the first eau de cologne. They still sell it. There is a museum tour and you get a sampler at the end. It's a bit basic, but has a very pleasant fresh citrus smell. Just thought you'd want to ad that to your list because perfume history ;)

I had a few different bath and body works perfumes in my 20's but I really only wore them for going out, not a daily thing. My first fragrance that I bought with my own money was Rare Pearls from Avon Cosmetics 😅 Total white flower bomb!! Like you, I also grew up in a small town where there were no such things as department stores. But what we did have was this sweet older lady that went from door to door once a month with a case for of perfumes and makeup and jewelry and I boy did I get hooked. I must've spent thousands and thousands of dollars on Avon perfume growing up. Not gonna lie, they had some bangers. They did a collab with Cristian Lacroix and made a perfume called Rouge that absolutely had me in a chokehold, I was so obsessed!! And still wear it to this day because I recently found a brand new one on eBay. Holy cow did that bring back memories.
After my Avon days were over I found JLo's Glow at a thrift stop and fell in love with that. Dove soap in a bottle! Was my signature scent for years. and out of that came my obsession with soapy white floral perfumes.
I was always a clean white florals girlie..and definitely some freshies like light blue, Clinique Happy tommy girl are still in my collection to this day. Still live in a small town, unfortunately so sniffing new perfumes is hard. I have to order samples online and "blind buy" alot of the fragrances I buy so channels like yours are a life and money saver!!! You are the best fragrance reviewer IMO because you keep it simple and how you describe a fragrance lets me know exactly if I like it or not, this saving me a TON of money!!!
I REALLY enjoyed this video! You're an instant must watch!!

Love your story, thank you so much for sharing! ❤ I would love more videos like this!
I'm a millennial as well and I loved B&BW Cucumber Melon, then MJ Daisy. Then nothing for years, and now I've recently been captivated by fragrance like never before. I've had 3 babies in the past 5 years, my hormones and sense of smell have been all over the place. So many smells would make me nauseous during pregnancy, and with 3 pregnancies back to back it was a wild ride! My youngest is now 6 months old and it's like my sense of smell has gone back to normal but amplified, it's like I've opened a magical door to the fragrance world and there's no turning back now 😄

This was fun! In MS I wore BBW Cucumber Melon and VS Country Apple. In HS it was VS Dream Angels Heavenly. In college VS Tease Noir. When I started my career I wore DKNY Green Apple. And finally when I started my fragrance journey during the pandemic it all started with Chanel CM! Thanks for sharing!

It’s so funny, I’ve been seeing people in the comments of perfume videos bringing up Exclamation and I completely forgot I had it and was an avid user of it! That and Versace Red Jeans and Baby Blue Jeans (is that the name??) and the gold Baby Phat perfume. As a teenager I transitioned into Dolce, Acqua di Gioia, Daisy and Armani Code Summer. Absolutely none of those fragrances are in my taste now, but the memories they bring back are amazing

My first perfume/cologne was from a swedish brand called Date, think i had two of their scents. In my teens I bought my first perfume and it was by Alyssa Ashley called Fizzy. It was such a vibe 😂 after that I got my first designer scent and it was Ocean Lounge by Escada. I wasnt so keen on too flowery scents, and still are 😅

it’s crazy how much our memory is tied into our sense of smell!! some perfumes of my “fragrance history” are Purr and Meow by Katy Perry, both of which i wore in middle school so they remind me of that time and my first boyfriend (cringe). unfortunately i can’t unattach those memories to them, no matter how much i wanna rebuy the perfumes for their cute cat bottles 😭 also, i LOVEEE your corazón sagrado necklace so i have to ask, where did you get it??? your style is so cool! ^o^

My mother who was born in 1918 and was a Marine in WWll wore Elizabeth Taylor Blue Grass, then later, White Diamonds and Passion. What is odd is that I never remember spraying any on me at all. White Diamonds Lustre and Nina Ricci L'Air du Temps were ones she gifted me in the tiniest bottle possible. I wore what she gave me, still have the purple Passion bottle. As an adult, I'd buy some random body mist and use that until it was gone and get another that smelled good off the cap and I do remember Sweet Pea Fantasy, same as you, just tossed out an ultra old bottle a couple of days ago. I never bought an actual bottle of perfume except a bottle of Navy at Walmart until maybe six or seven years ago (and honey, I am 68 years old). My husband thinks most perfume smells like urine, or so he says. He has never complimented me on any fragrance and only comments if he hates it, as in "what is that *smell*?! . I told him that his smeller is broken and it actually may be at the ripe old age of 72 years, who knows? I wear it for myself. And being ultra frugal as he is, I have never spent more than about $45 on any of them, but I have plenty. I am a gourmand girl. If I want a perfume that I cannot afford, I just buy the dupe from Impressive Bliss who sells both sprays and oils for killer prices, or travel sprays of the real deal from Scents Angel. I wish I had more scent memories because I really enjoy fragrance. I loved your stories today, Olivia! ~Cynthia, N. GA mountains

My very first true love involving perfume was my mom coming home with Hot Couture by Givency (EDP) back in high school (2001ish). I fell in LOVE with the scent but my mom wouldn’t let me get it because it was “too sexy” for a teenager. I ended up getting pregnant at 19 and money was tight for a long time. When I finally graduated nursing school, my gift to myself was my first perfume purchase as an adult with my own money, Hot Couture!

Gotta say, I think I would be curious to take a stab at Euphoria again. I think it might remind me of some hard times but I got one of the best and funniest compliments wearing it. Not exactly a daytime or summer fragrance but that's when I was wearing it lol and I was cutting through a college campus and a woman backtracked to ask me what it was because she told me I just "smelled so yummy". Will never forget that. Fun to reminisce through fragrance.

Omg Calvin Klein Euphoria was my first real perfume at the age of 16 or 17. My high school boyfriend got it for me for Christmas. It was way too mature for my age 😂 I pretty much just wore it on special occasions.

Bonne Bell cologne when i was 7, Exclamation around 9 or 10, Rare Gold and Josie from Avon in high school. Then Romance, Be Delicious and Pleasures Exotic in college. J'adore in mid 20s, Jo Malone Everything. Miss Dior in early to mid 30s. Discovered Tobacco Vanille late 30s and the whole world of high end perfumes opened up from there. All hell broke loose after that.
