  • We're back in the 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, but this time in the UK. The updated Outlander PHEV has a new engine, new batteries, a new electric motor and a new generator, so it should be more efficient but also slightly quicker. But is it worth the money?

    I’ve owned a 4h model since 2016. Loved it so much just ordered another 4h and looking forward to the positive changes they have made. Really great when I can run for a couple of months without having to fill up. Perfect communicating car as long as your daily journey isn’t more than say 25 miles in total, or you have a charging point at work.

    The idea of putting a PHEV system in an SUV is really quite an ingenious one! Have a commute less than 14 miles and youre sorted. Shame they didn't update the interior though

      More and more companies will do it! It'll be interesting to see what comes out over the next year or two. And they did, but like the outside you need to look hard to notice the changes.

    I have a MY19 and it is a fantastic car. My commute to work and back is about 7 miles so only need to charge the car every 4 days or so. I've driven 1600 miles so far and I've used about £42 petrol! Drive the car as it was designed to be driven (serenely) and the rewards are outstanding.

      You've got one already? Speedy speedy! It absolutely makes sense for you then. Guessing the petrol might have been used for a longer journey? Glad you're enjoying it anyway!

    I am considering one to replace my diesel Mercedes company car. Not sure about achieving high MPG due to the type of driving involved, more like 35 MPG in the real world. My benefit however is company car tax, this car attracts a very low BIK value with a Net figure of £235/month as opposed to £740/month for the Mercedes.
    I took one for an extended test drive the other day, I must say I was quite impressed!

    Interesting video, I currently have a Range Rover sport and want to go eco in some form, the new RRS is stupid money and as you say there are many alternatives right now that can drive on electric only for short trips.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is no direct connection between the petrol engine and the wheels?
    Therefore, there's no real reason to quote power and torque.
    It's basically a petrol drive for the generator that charges the battery and/ or runs the electric motors.
    No review seems to explain this.

    • @Shavenuw129
      @Shavenuw129 5 лет назад

      The engine is not simply a range extender. It can charge the battery and /or power the front wheels directly.

    • @RiRi_Phoenix
      @RiRi_Phoenix 5 лет назад

      You haven’t watched many reviews then.
      The engine acts normally and also powers the generator.

    • @Mike01Hu
      @Mike01Hu 5 лет назад

      At high speeds there is an automatic clutch that directly couples the ICE to the drive chain for the front wheels only; this disengages when the speed drops and the control switches back to EV mode or Save mode as selected. There is no manual override for this.

    • @Mike01Hu
      @Mike01Hu 5 лет назад

      There is a mode switch that allows you to select "Save", which uses more ICE and saves electric power for town driving or when extra power is needed, like steep hills, a "Charge" mode that does make the ICE charge the battery and provide motive power plus a full EV mode.

    someone educate me please! You quoted 28miles on the battery or combined cycle is 156mpg. So if I fill up 1 gallon of petrol and fully charged battery then I can drive 156 miles? I know thats not correct, so how can the combined cycle be 156 mpg? i don't get it? sorry for being thick!

      @@Mike01Hu i have made my own testing regarding this Car with Mitsubishi equipment. The problem is real!

    • @Mike01Hu
      @Mike01Hu 5 лет назад

      The issue is the same for all EV's and much worse for some. I concur that battery management software is an issue but this is such a complex subject that compromises have to be made and that happy median may not suit everyone's environment, driving conditions, charging schedules and driving styles. On my MY19, I have noticed no overall degradation in SOH; in fact there has been an improvement recently, possibly due to temperature changes. My driving tends to be very varied with long trips interspersed with local shorter ones, the latter mainly in hilly terrain. I use the granny charger with occasional quick charges, if available.
