    This touching tribute was recorded in 1997. The champagne glass on the piano is a shout out to Freddie. I believe this is the last time John played with Queen.

      The camera going through the video was supposed to be from Freddie's perspective. And if I'm not mistaken this is the last time that he recorded a song with Queen but he played a benefit for Freddie after this. The benefit was the members of Queen and different artists singing in place of Freddie. They were was the leader singer of the Who Roger, I wanna say Robert Plant and Jimmy Page from Zeppelin, I believe Elton John, and Phil Collins to name a few. But don't quote me on that, I just remember the singer for the Who and Phil Collins for sure though. But they were a lot of artist that performed at the benefit concert. But I believe that was the last time Deaky played with them.

      @@Glenjutsu1 The benefit concert was at Wembley in April 1992 and, yes, many big names performed, including Spinal Tap, lol.

    Did you notice, at the very end of the video, you hear people talking and someone says, “Brian, relax!” I guess Brian was so overcome with emotion after recording the video, he likely broke down. Those four guys were more than band mates. They were like brothers! They argued, threatened bodily harm, walked out, walked away but like most brothers, the disagreements never diminished their deep respect and love for each other. They might lash out but they would always protect and defend one another against outside negativity. Great reaction to an epic song. Thanks.

    This video is always difficult for me to watch. The song is a beautiful tribute but looking at each of the band members, you can see that they are all still tortured by the loss of Freddie even though it was a few years after Freddie passed that they finally recorded this song. Brian wrote the song and gave a tape of it to Roger who stashed it in a drawer and forgot about it. Years later when he found it and finally listened to it, he called Brian and said he liked the song and thought they should do it as Queen. At this point, Princess Diana had also died as well as a few others so it ended up being a tribute to a few people they had lost.

    The last shot of this video, right before he says "cut" you see a full glass of champagne sitting on the piano... that was Freddie's way of celebrating completing a new song... "cheers to you dear Freddie", and well done Brian... BTW, this was the last time John played with them...
    thanks Pluto... blessings.

    Oh this is a hard one to see & hear... every single time I see it I cry. A couple points: this is the first time I listened to this song since my mom died and it makes it doubly hard to NOT cry. Did you notice John? You can tell John struggled to finish. I half expected him to sing a verse or some backing vocals, but he wasn't even 'there' to sing. He was barely 'there' to play bass. When it was over, I thought he was going to throw his bass and leave. Poor guy just couldn't take it anymore. So sad.

    I just love this song and it aways brings a tear to my eyes! Concerts, I have been through your Queen playlist and you have not done the concert at Montreal 1981, Hammersmith 1979, Milton Keynes 1982, live at the Rainbow 1974. Now you have done songs from each one of these but not the whole concert and yes I forgot Budapest 1986. Thanks for all the reactions!

    Thanks, Pluto.. yes this was Brian's song, but Roger was a major part of it.. they got John to play, but I think this was his last collaboration with his former band-mates... he and Freddie were particularly close, and he never enjoyed the "rock-star" lifestyle anyway... appreciate your reaction...

    There is one particular documentary that I would really recommend to you and that is the docu-drama "The Freddie Mercury Story - Who Wants To Live Forever". It has almost 3 million views, and the actor who plays Freddie, John Blunt, is, in my own opinion, the best who has ever played him (and I include Rami Malek in that). To me, he looks more like Freddie, and has his mannerisms down pat. The whole content is brilliant, and I can't praise it highly enough. Even if you don't wish to react to it (but I hope you will!) please just watch it anyway - you won't be disappointed.

    Brian May wrote this song after the death of Diana, Princess of Wales in August 1997, originally for his solo project. But it is largely a eulogy to Freddie. It was dedicated to Freddie by Brian, Roger, & John. At the end of the video you can hear someone say “Brian relax ..” 😢😢

    • @imweakfordeaky
      @imweakfordeaky 4 месяца назад +1

      He wrote it well before Diana’s death … actually just after they performed at the Bejart Ballet For Life in early 1997- in fact, he’d given the demo tape to Roger, who tossed it into a drawer and forgot it for 5-6 months. When Roger *finally* listened to it, he contacted Brian and said that they must record it !
      Of course, by then Diana had died (in Aug 1997) and fashion designer Gianni Versace (a long-time friend of the band) was murdered (July 1997) , shortly before the band gathered in the studio to record. Obviously those two losses were also in mind as they recorded, and so in a way fit the same theme… but were not part of the original intent of the songwriting.

    Several live performances are well worth watching. Love of My Life, live in Rock in Rio where 250,000 in attendance sing the song to Freddie. Who Wants to Live Forever, live in Budapest will give you chills. Somebody to Love, live in Milton Keynes is a blues version of the great Montreal version. Fat Bottomed Girls, Live in Milton Keynes is a fantastic song. And the cream of the crop is Live Aide perfection, 20 best music ever recorded.

    I have learned everything I could find over these past few yrs about Queen . The greatest rock and roll band of all time then and now. Knowing what I have learned and loving their music is why this song cuts so deep . They were not just a band they were like brothers through all the ups and downs they withstood the test of time that no other band could do.

    You're not going to run out anytime soon, you've got loads of footage from concerts and the songs will always sound slightly different at each one. I know you won't run out of music for quite some time either just from the group you have almost 700 released, then everything else, solo albums from Sir Brian, Roger and Freddie, the former two turning up at the theatre show they have had running in different parts of the world, Sir Brian singing with Fred in the 21st century the list is endless
