I really love your videos, especially the gardens video 🤍 I would love to see a video dedicated to medieval relics still found in London today 🤍🤍 can’t wait for your next video
Superb series of videos, very enjoyable and informative, keep up the good work, Did you know that the National West Tower, when viwed from above, is the shape of the Nat west logo?
Excellent stuff. Amazed the NW tower wasn't opened until 81! I thought you might have mentioned the vacuum cleaner in St Helens church sucking the smoke back in the chimney though :) Really enjoyed, thanks.
Just found this video. This is really interesting. Thanks for posting. The audio is a bit broken up and crackly in parts though, which I've found hard to follow here and there.
My first visit to London was in 1998. There was only one sky scraper in Canary Wharf. Every time I visit now it seems like another skyscraper dots the skyline. I’m kind of sad that St Paul’s no longer dominates the sky line. I love London and since then I’ve been 32 times. I’ll be visiting again soon. I love just walking the streets and finding hidden treasures.
Wonderful - this is your best one yet! As a fellow BBG I am sometimes at a loss to find something interesting to say about modern buildings! You've really inspired me!
Ohhh! That infamous walkie-talkie building!! I have a question. My Airbnb host specifically mentioned sky garden, and I will go there. Is there a restaurant as well? I wish to take my Airbnb host to dinner, and if Sky Garden has this, then reservations shall be had,for me and Dr.Celine😊😊
I'm pleased that modern developers are forced to bow in recognition of the very obvious superiority of St Paul's Cathedral. The very fact that the view of St Paul's must not be obscured from any angle is testament to the high regard we all have for this great cathedral.
I seem to remember (hearing about it on the news) that the sun's rays also melted the tarmac not just the car. (I was underwhelmed by the Sky Garden too - but the view is lovely.)
It's very popular now but yes you wouldn't necessarily know to visit, especially as traditionally most visitors attractions, bars and restaurants are in the West End rather than the City!
I enjoyed this video. I am not a fan of most skyscrapers, too many were allowed by a certain rather careless and corrupt former mayor! But it was nice to have your titbits softening these too big things!
Oh you wanted a nickname for 22! How about the Cheeseslicer for it looks like slices of cheese? And cheesily complementing the Cheesegrater! (This was the non-rude name I could think of!)
I think the Gherkin does tend to win people over! It's funny, maybe the roundness feels friendly (and it's not so big of course) Hopefully some interesting history in the video for you Terry, even if you don't like the skyscrapers!
@@LookUpLondon I always get the feeling that skyscrapers are unnecessary in New York they seem ok but London not so much I guess I like buildings on a more human level
@@terry9965 Can sympathise with that, however I quite like the contrast of tiny Medieval churches against huge glass towers, how long they'll be standing (the towers that is!) With changes to working life post-Covid remains to be seen!
I love the Walky Talky :D

Ooh that's a really good idea, perhaps a series of the best remnants from each period? Thanks Chelsey! :)
So interesting. Londons history is so detailed and layered. Always more to learn. Thank you!
The mice with the piece of cheese.... priceless!!!! 💘 I love knowing that!!!
I 💘 love the way London mixes old and new.... me personally, I prefer the old, but we must share the world and London has mastered compromise....

Another fantastic video. As always super informative. Keep them coming.
Thanks Keith!
Very nice and interesting video Katie! Looking forward for the part 2!
Very much enjoyed this mixture of ancient and modern. Will you soon be publishing vol 2 please?

All your videos are excellent, but I've really enjoyed this one. You're turning me into an architectural geek! :) Thanks for all the info!
Haha I'm glad to hear that Chris! Although I do think kerbs on tall buildings are necessary, I really think the contrasts in the City
Thanks

Thank Robert! Yes I agree, they can sometimes feel intimidating, especially if you don't have an architecture background, glad to have help!

Thank you another great video
Thank you for another fact-filled video - I really look forward to them!
The fascination continues - thank you !
Thanks Nick! Hope you can get to London again soon! :)

Brilliant - thank you Katie. I 'll look out for those mice and I never knew about the 'Walkie-Scorchie' nickname - a great way to remember it!
I remember all the headlines so clearly! Of course the press ha a field day - seem to remember a super imposed Dr Evil - perhaps the Metro cover?!!
The Shard and the Gherkin are magnificent, the rest could be in any middling city and don't have the gravitas that the City deserves.
I really like the walkie talkie
Thank you for an amazing video. And noooooooooo - I quite like the Walkie Talkie. 😭
Haha I'm sorry - I have to be honest! ;)
The Walkie Talkie should be renamed The Sore Thumb !!
As ever top video 👍🏼.
Thank you Richard, glad you enjoyed it!
I seem to remember (hearing about it on the news) that the sun's rays also melted the tarmac not just the car. (I was underwhelmed by the Sky Garden too - but the view is lovely.)
Yes I think that's true! There are various news reports about frying eggs and singed welcome mats!
It's not even the first time that this architect has seen the same problem with one of his buildings: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vdara
@@alexball5907 Oh dear - why didn't he (or those who chose his architecture) learn!?
It was my friend from America who got me into the sky garden.. It never crossed my mind to go there

I am not a lover of skyscrapers one or two are ok the Gherkin is grand the walkie Talkie is an abomination and the shard a vanity project
