It's huge drama, that you can create easily in such a setting.

I love how this movie tries to convince us that the daughter wouldn't know what her dad looked like in high school. The man peaked in high school; you just *know* he's shown his kids his high school yearbook like 50 times.

i think it helps that the dad is VERY UNCOMFORTABLE when he realizes the daughter has a crush on his 17-year-old self, although it's hysterical to me that he is totally unaware of the effect he has as a mature, empathic, good-looking 17-year-old to other girls also that age. maybe that's what makes us root for him too, that he's not taking advantage of the situation in wildly inappropriate ways. another hysterical aspect is how he just _has_ to flirt with his estranged wife while still in his 17-year-old body - like it's sweet that we realize how deeply in love he still is with her and wants to make amends but bruh!!! 😂😂😂

Like I think ur right that he could've waited and not thrown his team under the bus there, but it was symbolic of him choosing a future with Scar over a future in basketball. The problem is, the rest of his life he talked about the "what ifs," and it made Scar feel like he regretted his decision. Therefore, that's why we got to the end and he just did it all over again-- he had to show Scar (& realize himself) that it was the right decision back then & it's still the right decision in present time

no... maybe if he didn't constantly do brainless comedy movies, but... there's not one movie where he could break the stereotype he build for himself 🤷🏻‍♂️. there are enough actors that are famous for one (1) series, but could break free from their first characters (because they are actually good). for zac however, his acting is very consistent from his first acting roles to his most recent acting roles - the only thing he ever improved are his muscles and i'm genuinly concerned people think his acting is even close to "one of the best actors".

See this movie actually shows the Oedipus complex well, the daughter really liked him because he treated her how a dad teaches their daughters how they should be treated, with respect, so him talking to her like that makes her feel loved and respected how Dad's love their daughter's. No one loves us more than our parents so subconsciously we are searching for that same love. So yes it's creepy but it's also a psychological take (probably done accidentally by these less than poor writers)
Edit: I said "no one loves us more than our parents" as a blanket term to use my point I agree not everyone has amazing parents but we grow up either thinking we do or thinking this is the best we are gonna get, I know I have thought that when it came to my parents, but ya, it was just a blanket term to explain how the Oedipus Complex intersects with the movie, I didn't mean to insult or bother anyone by the statement.

“No one loves us more than our parents” unless you had abusive, unsafe parents…then I hope to hell I (we) meet someone who loves us more than them. But really good assessment, I agree with your comment and explaining it that way makes those scenes way less cringy and creepy. You’re 100% right. Don’t agree with "no one loves us more than our parents." Sometimes people have a stronger relationship with friends and lovers than family. Not everyone has an amazing family, a lot of abusive and neglect parents, etc are out there and it happens a lot. Especially dads.

nah it's never brought up. only his wife thinks it's weird. I guess you could argue that they don't have a great relationship with him and might just not have seen old photos for a long time. or that they wouldn't entertain that thought regardless because of the boundaries of reality (wife's friend comments on this). in a meta way it makes sense because Matthew Perry looks nothing like Zac Efron but I guess it's kinda asking for a suspension of disbelief lol
