- It's time for Mom to teach our 16 year old daughter how to drive the semi truck.
Harvest time is here once again, and we can use all the help we can get. This year Mackenzie is old enough to start hauling silage with the big trucks. Hang on while I teach our daughter how to drive a semi truck.

Mom, you were a great coach!! Very calm, no yelling and she had a lot of stuff to learn.
I grew up on a farm out in the middle of know where. I loved country girls then and still do. That's a real woman in the makeing. Keep teaching them right.
I was a truck driving instructor. Taught people to get their CDL. She did much better than about 85% of my students. Im impressed.
Just yesterday my son and i went out to eat and i looked at the trucks crossing the overpass and i thought nobody understands the love that truckers have for driving nobody i have a love for it and i will die someday with that love for driving im what you call a natural i will be driving a big truck in heaven theres only one thing i love more and thats JESUS amen
Growing up on a farm....a passage of life that more kids in America need to have! Great job!!!
I have a 105 acre farm and my kids wont do a thing. lazy, internet addicted
What's wrong with your foot??
Point to the work, and lead with the sole of the boot, firmly affixed to the seat of the pants!
At first, it will be difficult! You will feel some remorse. Then after about the third kick, it will start to become fun! Only problem, they usually get right to work, and there will be no need for a fourth and fifth kick! Then, miraculously, the next youngest ones will get the picture, and start to help, and then the babies will see what happens, and when they grow up, will never need the ole boot sole to get primed for chores!!
Occasionally, someone will encounter a mule. This one will need to be reminded, OFTEN! Remember, you can never let it be known that you enjoy applying the boot sole to an ornery teens seating area!!
Afterwards, make internet access restricted, and invisible, so that only you know it's there, and how to access it!! Tell them you can't afford it, and see if that makes them work harder, to help the family prosper!!
I still have the original boot print, and a seat with just a toe print, from the good ole days before I learned what discipline was!!
@@JawTooth Shut the internet off or take the I Phone away and assign jobs to do !!!! No do the jobs no eat and let em sleep out side !!! See how fast the attitude changes !!! Those kids are that way because YOU allow it and provide all the "nice things in life" Take it all away and let em earn it back by work !!! Damn1 !!! Do your job and teach em to be a USEFUL adult !!!

@@roadkill5333 I have the hickory switch imprints....worst part was when I had to pick the switch! heaven help me if it didn't "measure up!" And I didn't even THINK about calling the authorities. That would have been my ticket to the curb! PERMANENTLY!
Saw this video when it was new. Still admire the skill and work ethic you teach your kids and can’t help to think if everybody raised kids to bust butt the world would be better off. God bless
Thank you!!
Mother and daughter, so similar in appearance. Really nice to see a family working together, and having fun together.
She did pretty good for her first time, mom is a good trainer lots of patience, Trust me it was more than my Dad had back in the early seventies.
I taught my daughter to drive an 18 speed when she was 14, there were tears involved and some of them were hers. lol
Anderson that was funny stuff there,, I understand the feeling a shed a few tears laughing at your comment.
Lol
I learned when I was about 12ish, started driving full time when I was 18 been full time ever since, it’s good to teach em young I just don’t know if I could handle that tho and be as com as her 😂😂😂

I was taught at 7 to drive truck between an 18 speed a 13 a 9 and an auto dump truck it's a skill I will use for the rest of my life
It was a lot to take on board and she dove right in even though confused. Those transmissions are a bear to learn and they all shift just a bit differently. She should be proud of herself!
She did a good job driving it for the first time. It's a lot to absorb at one feeding! Mom did an awesome job teaching her and reassuring her along the way. Good job by both of you ladies!
Great Job young lady!!! love the relationship between mother and daughter, America need more of this for its youth.
She done a great job for the first time
awesome … best part was seeing her dad lite up and smile with she pulled up along side … life don't get no better... gr8 vids of a very hard working family operation 5 stars ..Stay with it Kenzie you will get it and be a gr8 truck driver!!!
At the 19 minute point she reminds me of my daughter with her attitude.
I drove trucks for over 30 years and it is not easy at first,
but she is a wise young woman and will drive well.
Mom you did a great job teaching her. She did a great job as well for her first time. She must have had a proud moment when she pulled up next to dad running the other machine. I'm sure dad was really proud as well to see his daughter driving that truck right next to him. It's great to learn stuff like that. We're losing that work ethic in every generation and it gets harder every year. It makes me happy to see that. Family business is always hard as well. You two dig great. Keep up the good work. I watched the whole video and I had a smile on my face the whole time. Again great job! I hope everything goes well and you have a good season. Thank you for the video.
Girl you done really good for first time mom was a really good teacher
Old grandad from Canada here.....your daughters amazing. I learned stick at 10 years of age driving a 49 dodge in the fields overloaded with grain. She did way better than I did first time out !
Proud mom and daughter total look-alikes .....beautiful country folk.
That warmed my heart. Your mother was teaching you better than Swift trainers teach their drivers. My older brother taught me how to back up his 18 wheeler at produce sheds in the early 70's when I was about your age and believe me your mother is alot kinder than he was and 42 yrs later I'm still doing it ! Tell your Dad if your gonna do this you need a 389 daycab Pete, let me know his reaction, lol. Hang in there young lady and keep helping mom and dad feed our great Nation. Peace Out and Fish On
Kevin's reaction to the 389 Pete, was a smile and then he started naming off older trucks. (Right out of high school he worked as a mechanic at a semi rebuilding shop)

Mom is right, learning to drive big will be good for future driving, well done young lady you did absolutely brilliant. I was driving 10 ton box trucks at 10 yrs old, I'm 54 now and have driven everything and had one fender bender in all that time. Good luck young lady and thank your mom for doing this.
She did really good! Like I tell my kids repetition is mother of excellence.
At that time, she didn't realize that majority of people are not driving manual, let alone big trucks like this! She felt like embarrassed but she did very well for 1st time! Majority of young people in cities wouldn't be able to do it! Part of my family were farmers and i worked often with them and neighbors, great memories of that time when i was young. I liked driving all kind of equipment and i end up driving a motorcycle on racetrack!
Great Job Mackenzie, all the truck drivers watching were pulling for you to make that shift, not easy, but a great teacher.....
I remember my first time my dad let me drive his white freightliner in 1972 i was 10 yrs old and it was a experience I’ll never forget belive it its not that easy and I never got to drive it again! lol well he sold it and went to work for general motors, my experience was i had that thing jumping up n down thru 3 gears lol never forget the lessons were taught by our parents or friends in life! 🤗🤔👍
Your daughter is such a sweetheart
Fantastic job for the first attempt young lady and well instructed mum patience of a saint. Your daughter is going to be a great operator.
I don't care what any one says . All of us were thinking the same thing after our first lessons . She just had the uh ,yea to express it out loud . Plus she did it on camera . Love her facial expressions . Thanks again .
You did a GREAT job Mom!
Everyone needs to learn to drive trucks . Good job.
I was a trainer for many years, and Kenzie DID WAY BETTER than most of my students! 👍👍👍😃😃😃
Big difference being trained by a family versus someone you don't know lol
@@Aaron-pq3xj......yes....that is true. The person that trained me, was a horrible trainer. For the five weeks I was on his truck, all he did was sleep.....and smell bad. (He didn’t believe in showering)......🤢🤢🤮🤮
Who did you go thru?
@@Aaron-pq3xj.......Central Refrigerated....
She adorable, I'm so proud of her. She's a sweetheart!
Fantastic video! I love how mom was so patient and encouraging all the time. MK.You stayed with it like a pro!. Learning something new is always uncomfortable and just takes time and repetition as you get more comfortable with the environment and the timing of rpm for each gear it will soon be like riding a bike.GOOD JOB!!
Thank God there are still kids out there being a raised on farms Otherwise the art of driving stick shift vehicles may be lost forever Great job Mom
Two beauties right there!!
She is doing great. I love it when she says she doesn't like it cuz it's , but she does it with a smile . She is enjoying it ,not to mention she is learning what is becoming a lost art driving a standard.
I learned on an old Autocar with two transmissions and 5 speed main and 4 speed auxiliary.
Great job, great teacher.
At least she is trying and she will be killing it when she get old enough
I have a very good coworker from Michigan.I love Michigan people.I’m in trucking school and when i get a chance next harvest I won’t mine giving you guy’s a next help on my one weeks off day.Keep me posted.Great job guy’s she’s doing very good.
Very good job for a first time, and that’s one skill that will always be something useful to you if you need it.
Mom you was a great Coach. And you have beautiful eyes. I taught three of my boys and my baby girl and I don't know if I had the patience you had. I'd like to think so .. God speed
Great job done by y'all, mom the teacher and McKenzie the driver.
I'm sure your daddy had a big smile on his face when he seen you pull along side of him.
You did great, have fun with it. You've learned something valuable for yourself and for the farm.
Mirrors Mirrors Mirrors! You are so right mom.
I have a son and three daughters myself that know how to drive.
Have fun Driver McKenzie!
I had to watch this again.
My lord that FLD sounds amazing thumbs up to whoever straight piped it
It's Detroit can't you tell by the sound
To me it sounds like a L10 or a M11
Mama did a great job teaching ! Kenzie did a great job at her first time
That girl is too damn funny!! Reminds me of when I taught my "little princess" how to drive, she learned though. She was driving a tractor and a backhoe for years so awareness and steering were great. Convincing her she wasn't a racecar driver and that she didn't own the road was a whole different ballgame!! Take care.
You two are way to cute! It’s no. Wonder. You have such a beautiful daughter. She looks just like you.
Well done, young and faithful student driver. You may never know how important it is to be able to shift a standard and drive a big truck. I learned when I was 7 and built up to a cabover semi then a semi with a trailer. Many things to learn at each stage. My dad and oldest brother were good teachers. Keep it up!
All my girls know how to drive a standard. Not a semi..but trucks and cars.....good they know how. Always a pleasure watching "Acres of Clay Homestead"....Keep em coming. Many blessings to you all.
Thank you!
I think she did a good job for the first time. I learned to shift first by sitting next to my boyfriend. He’d drive & I shifted. I got used to it & could tell by the sound of the engine when to shift. Then it was much easier to learn the clutch. Mom, you did a great job teaching. Very patient. Such a great skill to know. Love & Hugs from Vicki in Ft. Worth, Texas 🇨🇱🇺🇸👍
your mom is a good teacher to you and she is a pro that is a calm teacher and a most outstanding driver ive ever seen in my intire life she's very calm
I learned to drive semi at 13 yrs. Dad was a driver. Lived on a farm. She's got this. Just takes a little practice.
Not a good coach but a good teacher and a great mother.
When you let off the fuel a little bit, hold your foot steady and the transmission will shift much easier.
Don't give up. It's not a brand new truck and I'm sure you're not the first to grind gears.
You're doing great
MOM you are a great, patient teacher...your kids are very fortunate❤️👍🇨🇦
Good Job Kenzie!!! Now you have a skill very few 16 year-old girls have! You should be proud!
she has a lot of useful skills that most adults will never have.... awesome parents produce awesome kids and that is certainly what this family is...
As mother as daughter beautiful
Ronda & McKenzie -- I drove semi cross country for 13 years from '96-'09, and so you can take this from a veteran trucker that McKenzie did better on her first time than I did on my first time and you, Ronda, are an excellent instructor. I would not make a good instructor, because even though I can drive one I would not be good at verbalizing to someone what to do while I was sitting in the jump seat. I couldn't even tell them what I was doing and why I was doing it if I was sitting in the driver's seat and as I was doing it. It's just something that you have to pick up naturally so that it comes as second nature, but with practice it will definitely come. So hammer down, McKenzie, and keep the shiny side up and the dirty side down! LOL
@Budd Hicks -- Yep, that's how you do it. Float the gears. No clutch. My fave transmission was the Eaton-Fuller Super Ten.
@@3069mark 3069, your comment was just what McKenzie needed. Some were critical and their comments had no place here!
Love this, mother and Daughter bonding. Great job 👏 mom!
Great job McKenzie .not everyone can do that .once you have done it a couple times you will forget you had to learn to do it. Every time you learn something new It makes you more special.agian great job.💪🚛 Have a great day 😀
Awesome job young lady. Your mom is a great coach
Nice job Mom! Finally someone who teaches to start in 1st gear loaded or empty, it is always good to learn to shift without the clutch but my personal preference is to double clutch and by starting out in 1st you are saving the clutch, been driving tractor trailers for 41 years and I think it is great what you are doing, thanks for the video!
She is doing great. Lots of farm boys and girls are experts operating massive equipment from even younger ages.
thank GOD for the power of woman love it
Mom was an awesome coach
Great job, it will get easier the more you do it. Thank you for taking us along with you
It's good to see I'm not the only one who has there kids learn stuff they don't think they need in life.
Take care and have fun
She gonna be a gear jammer putting the the hammer down, awsome good for you gurl looks good on you.
You realize women truck drivers are some the sexiest women on the planet. Something about a beautiful woman doing what is normally considered means work is very appealing to many men!!!
Great Ma and Daughter team. Student did really good. Great mother advise. Mother seems as young as the students.
She did well! It's hard to shift in the dirt, you lose momentum quickly.
7ViewerLogic couldn’t agree more. I drive a loaded 9 speed dump truck 10yds dirt and pulling out of the site is hard when the dirt you’re on is super soft
@@diggindirtallday7188 Usually a couple days every year I drive a silage truck like these ladies were driving. The fields I drive in are very sandy and sometimes I double clutch to make sure I dont miss a shift. But to the comment section pros that just means I'm a crappy driver LoL. They used the clutch 20 years ago to get started and havent touched it since.
7ViewerLogic Ahahaha you’re right on that one. I’m no expert by any means. I’m a high school senior who drives a 9 speed dump truck after school and on the weekends hauling dirt and rock for a construction company. But hey, I don’t like to be that guy who says it’s being done wrong because well if you were to watch me you could criticize what I do too. If it works, it works.
you did a great job Mom you are great teacher,, You did a good job,, you will wish you will never learned,, You have to help the family
Couple help tips. Only put the clutch in half way when you are moving to shift so you dont wear out the clutch brake and will also help with faster shifts until you learn to slip shift. Last one is when you are stopped and cant get it into gear what's happening is the gear teeth arent lined up. To fix just let the clutch out a little to bump the transmission and try again. Did an awesome job!
Put it just the way I would have said ,, good advice CK
She did a great job, the first time I drove a simi I did not do half as good as she did, mom you did good calm easy teaching.
Well done McKenzie, for a first time you did good
Great Job Girl!! You are One in 100,000+ Girls That Can do that. Way to go Girl!!
Driving a stick shift is a lost art.
Keep it up.
If Xander could reach the pedals he’d show you how to do it.
Good job teaching Mom
Good job girl for your first time. Thumbs Up. PRACTICE makes it PERFECT. Never give up keep pushing on.
McKenzie your doing a great job in the truck I give you give stars for first time YOU GO GIRL
So incredible doing this type of thing in life an really feel what it's like, having this at a young age!!
Good job it will get easier every time you do it. I was 19 and in the army before I drove one that big. Was driving a pickup on the farm at 11. We didn't have any big trucks on our little farm. Stay safe and God bless.
Mother you did a good job telling her what she needed to do. I was a trainer for the last company I drove for and I think she would make a good driver. I drove 18 wheel dump truck and some guys made me not want to be a trainer then I could go to sleep with some of the guys I trained.
Daughter AND Mom are both really cute !
McKenzie.. You done a woulderful job... Hope you dont just give up. You handle that perfect. Keep going only will get easyer from here... Mom is a great coach..
Thanks for the Heart.. Came back and rewatched your first day. When you first pulled up side of your dad... He looked out and seen you drving with mom... You could just see how proud he was to know you both was there... Could have knocked him over with a feather right then..
Good job Mom. Takes patience.
Should always learn to use with clutch first, than speed shifting later. Much easier on equipment.
Just my thoughts.
Totally agree!
I was Driving the Trucks my Dad owned back in the 70's, when I was 16. I still own 2 of his 1975 Dodge Bighorns and 6 KW W900 Bicentennial Editions. Still in daily operations, and In Pristine Condition.
I'll have to get our 17 year old to watch this. He loves trucks, especially Peterbilts.
She did a wonderful job
This kids going to be able to drive what most kids cant.... a clutch.
And on top of that its a big ass truck.
I learned to drive and to drive a truck before I was 10. She did pretty good for the 1st time out.
Heck yeah she is a natural-born gearjammers
Don't worry Mackenzie you got a very beautiful teacher don't get mad I can see your beautiful
She did 10x better than I did my first time driving truck, Nice job young lady!
Dispite the teacher🤪
Mom did great. Typical young lady. 😍😇😍😇😍😇😍
You can do it!!!!
Both my girls grew up in the cab, at least during silage season.
21 year old (born in August, just in time for corn) was in a baby seat on the doghouse of a '72 Freightliner cabover when she was a week old.
19 year old (born in March) was about two weeks old when she joined her big sister for clover season..
Both can drive truck... They prefer the single axle with the automatic, but they can get the other trucks down the road 😎
Makenzie, you're doing great!!!!
Mom.... You're doing great too!!!
Truck sounds good 😎
Except for the grinding part... You'll get used to it!!!
Key to shifting, either double clutch, or don't clutch... Easier to not clutch, just play with the throttle and slip it from one gear to the next 😎
OMG.. the end.. Makenzie, you're just like my 19 year old!! You're kinda shy and unsure of yourself...don't be, just take your time and you will get more comfortable and better😁
Thanks for the video!!!
I am retired now Mckenzie, and I live in Australia, I use to drive Log trucks, milk tankers and general interstate semi's all over Australia, I also drove semi rcks n the U.S. You did a excellent job driving that truck, and you are a very quick learner, well done Mckenzie.
I have a felling this young lady is going to be a really good driver 👍 it took me 3 or 4 lessons for me to get my shifting skills down to where I was sure of what I was doing... stick with it McKenzie🚛👍
Bob Watson I spent a lot of time dry running how to shift a 5+2 using the directions on the sun visor. It helps to learn one aspect at a time.
This was my first video from this family and I think this mom is awesome and calm, callected most men would be yelling. one video goes a long way to show how humble people are. Well done mom and Dad, God bless you, peace and prosperity to your family.
Welcome to our channel!
Great job McKenzie, like any piece of equipment it just takes time to learn what works, watch your tachometer to match when to shift.with practice you,ll have this down pat in no time. Ronda your a great teacher and i,m impressed at how well you handle a truck as well.I don't know if Mckenzie had the benifit of doing a ride along to watch from example but that is how i learned was watching someone do it first.
She did a great job, it comes easier the more you do it. I see the corn head is working good. Thanks, God bless
You did great. I was terrified when I started. You'll do better every time. Pretty soon it'll be as natural as driving your car
Done a fine job teaching mom
Please forgive me, but I had many a good laugh during that first lesson by McKenzie. She is an excellent first timer and really brave. It was the interaction between ye that I really enjoyed, especially at the end. I have a daughter who would have parachuted in desperation after just minutes in such heat and beginner stress. You, Mom, are so cool, calm and collected.
When I heard the “crash of the gearbox”, it reminded me of the old saying “rubber gearbox”!!
Ye both were great sport and I enjoyed it very much.
Thanks.
