    On this episode of Building Up A Model Railway we cover a couple of subjects, the continuation of the lift out section and extra line with a small incline. Also we look into some more 3D printing and even a little painting. Then with some copper clad sleepers for the 009 layout enables me to bring it down into my work room to allow me to start making some progress on the board. Enjoy!
    I have a Patreon if you wish to support me in my journey in this great hobby.

    Well done with the charity shave. Am enjoying going back through these layout building videos, getting ideas for my own layouts.
    Also, good job reminding everyone to slice away from yourself when using knives... my Dad is a keen model railroader and he's lucky to be alive. Was shaving pieces off kits and the knife slipped... sliced his arm so severely that he sliced open an artery near his right wrist. (He's left-handed) That was 34 years ago. 😬

    Hi Tris. loving the videos. The little bits you were trimming off the sleepers are called 'chairs' I believe. As the rails sit in the chairs plus a wedge. One other thing that might interest you. Look up a guy named Luke Towan on RUclips. He's an Aussie, but we won't hold that against him. He is an ace modeller. Not only that, he also builds his own tools. He built a homemade foam cutter and his own version of the scatter applicator out of odds and sods. Well worth a look I feel.

    the 3d printer buffers were impressive. You should get out to Wales! My father in law was a volunteer on the Ffestiniog railway and had his own model railway - which is probably why my wife is so supportive! The Vale of Rheidol is fantastic from sea level up to Devils Bridge. Well done for the fund raising a bit of a drqstic change!

    Great video again Tris, especially useful to see how you’ve set up your UV curing box. Vale of Rheidol is a fantastic line (just be prepared it’s not that cheap if you’re paying for a few people but it’s a long line with running costs that entails and lower passenger numbers that mainstream standard gauge lines in the middle of the country) and you can quite easily do a weekend break in Aberystwyth, even came across a nice model shop quite accidentally whilst there, and if you make a longer break of it you’re spoilt for narrow gauge lines in Wales. Buffers looked great!

    Well done on raising two and a half grand for charities. I had a chuckle at some of the styles you created in the timelapse... I love the way you use a 3D printer or CNC to make the things and tools you need. I wish I had the ability to do the same. On your CNC copper sleepers and jig, look at doing the same for Peco N gauge track, I'm sure there would be a demand.

  • @kevinhale9400
    @kevinhale9400 3 года назад

    In one of your videos, you were talking about sleepers and all the bits and bobs that go with them. The rails are attached, on older era track, with what are called chairs. They are screwed into the sleepers at appropriate distances and then rails are laid into them. To secure them in place, wedges are then hammered in between the rails and chairs. The old BULLHEAD rails had lots of these wedges. I am not trying to be a smart ass but thought it would be a matter of interest to you as a modeller. Great video as usual and very informative.

    I recently bought a small 3D printer, but have not been able to find many railway items to print, did you design your own buffers ? if so what did you use, if not have you got a link to the 3D design please ? I want to add a small 009 branch line on the OO layout I'm building and I was hoping to print items for both.
    Have you thought about making you sleeper alignent tool double sided, OO one side and 009 on the other ? Just a thought :)

    I'm a bit confused....I thought the idea of the cork was as underlay to give quieter running.........but using pins to fix it in place takes away the flexibility and any sound deadening, I was under the impression that it was supposed to be glued down to retain a bit more flexibility over pinning. Thoughts anyone?? 🌈😷🇬🇧

    • @OONeal
      @OONeal  4 года назад

      Lee Clarke hello, I’m happy with the sound of the engines running on the track as thats one of the reasons I do the hobby. If I wished to I can pull the pins out carefully after ballasting and the track should stay in place.

    • @leeclarke2743
      @leeclarke2743 4 года назад

      @@OONeal good morning, thanks for that prompt response....so if you're not using cork for noise reduction underlay.... Why don't you pin the track direct to the board? 🌈😷🇬🇧

    • @OONeal
      @OONeal  4 года назад

      Lee Clarke it’s so it lifts the track and gives the look like a real railwa where the track sits on top of the ballast. The track is always taller than the ground so once I add static grass it stops the track being hidden.
