  • Richard Wagner's Lohengrin inspired King Ludwig II of Bavaria to name his castle Neuschwanstein Castle after the Swan Knight and it was King Ludwig II that gave Wagner the financial means to build a theatre where his epic cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen would premiere.
But what makes Lohengrin stand out among Wagner's other masterpieces is the sheer beauty of the music.
At the end of Act II, Lohengrin and Elsa prepare themselves for their wedding after being questioned and tormented by Ortrud and Telramund of their true intentions. They both are united in their virtuous convictions and the as the King leads both Lohengrin and Elsa towards the chapel the chorus sings some of the most sumptuous music saying:
"See, he is sent by God! Hail to you, oh virtuous one! Hail to Elsa from Brabant!"
