    We need them back 🚇
The mindset and reasoning back then was that trains could only be evaluated in isolation, rather than part of a holistic system. The patronage was decreased because car-dependent investments were making it harder to get to them -- yet without the trains, traffic is the only option, and that large amount of vehicles traffic costs a lot.

Not if the present government attitude toward rail continues, sadly it will, so likely it will never happen.

The time has come for The Australian Government to revolutionise rail cargo & passenger infrastructure. Just mandating cargo and private motor vehicle's is now tested for 21st- 22nd century. The Australian people cannot remain subservient to some other nations, eg US & UK. We must conquer our own large land mass protecting the environment both natural and developed.
