I think they separated life from death, as in the scene where the duk talks about his mother. These are the laws which govern their life, not their death. They saw death as the easy way out, sort of like the finale. (Btw I know this comment was made a while ago but I couldn’t help but respond):)
In a perfect world this would've never happened, also how could the slaves possibly do that to any extent when their captors are armed and not weak from being tortured like they were.
I know most people discuss the message and subject of this film (for a damn good reason), but I kind of really love the cinematography. Just the locations, shot compositions, and sounds are all great to me. This doesn’t make the movie any less fucked, maybe even more so. I just really like it. Don’t plan on watching it over and over again though.
