Ethnic studies are multidisciplinary encompassing various fields such as anthropology, sociology, history, political science, etc. So what you would be able to do with a BA in those other fields are just as limited as a degree in Pan African Studies, Asian American Studies, Latin American Studies etc.
It gives you a good education to becoming a BLM activist.
Great lecture. Can't wait to jump into the rest of the series.
Diversity, Engagement, Etc needs when u in with entertainment and thought of the various degree of the context
@3beepu Most obviously is an academic one, just as I sought as a philosophy major, though there are probably more. But that such a job may be the only available one does not diminish the importance of the content within the lectures and courses. This is cultural capital that enriches everyone's lives no matter what professions they go on to take.

RIP Mark 🙏🏿
he died wtf???
@@wintur2856 suicide :(
i really wanted to continue watching this but the “Uhs” & “Ums” were too distracting and annoying
it has no editing so they cant cut them out ): mas the prof did a good job!
This is a serious question.
What type of professions would you be able to do with a degree in "African American Studies"
besides teaching African American Studies, I suppose any job that requires working with a largely AA group of people, like in a government or idk.
At least it proves you can read and write at a college level. You could also easily enter a graduate degree program in, say, History or whatever, which leads wherever...
Nothing. I'm half black and the two biggest fuck offs and ass hats I met in college were African American studies professors. True story. They're actually worthless.
Woke activist
Google Lexington Steele. He graduated in African American studies then became a stock broker and you'll be amazed where his education took him.
Brilliant lecture - such diversity of thought in the black community. Love the gender conscious. Where is the rest of the series? All the people with non critical, fruitless and negative comments are hilariously pathetic. "Im so upset about history, I'm overwhelmed by white guilt.. how can I maintain my comfortable delusional" You obvious cannot attack the legitimacy of the content so you resort to attacking the utility of the degree pretty pathetic - how many of you are UCLA lectures with published books tho? I'll wait. 😩😓
their white fragility is a serious disease.
Where is the rest of the series?
@htspassion18 History informs us about the present, unless of course you think learning about the present is useless.
Why did I come to the comment section?
so trueee, smh
why do people watch videos and comment negatively..and comment so ignorantly..who the hell do u think African American even got to America..by choice? I don't think so..
Charisse Presley Just like everybody else...
Wut? What does the slave trade have to do with some stupid bullshit.
Why blur out the posters of the signs...I didn't get that. I felt kind of cheated, as a viewer.

Why are the pictures of slavery blurred?
All this fucking UHHHH and UM and AAAA Jesus kills this lecture
I don't get with crying over a race is going to do for anybody. Is holding a bunch of people back
go somewhere
@@wintur2856 truth hurts huh
13:58 What is Race?
I know. Dumbest fucking thing I've seen all year. Race is real. The neolites of Africa have absolutely 0% neanderthal dna. Samoans and tognan skull structures actually have traces of every other race in the world. Certain medical conditions can only be found in certain races. Anyone who isn't an ass hat could easily do a google search and find this research. This professor and this major is a joke.
Why not just call it neomarxism?
Why do you say that ?, can you explain more in depth
Be a marxist... UMMM... UMMM be every other apspect of critical theory and UMMMMM you get an AAAAAAAA+++++++++++++
very annoying speaker
too many instances of the term ummm
As someone from Arab descent, this courses are honestly extremely racist.
Kruegerisgod Isn't it nastily obvious nasty racist?
there's also Latin American studies. You're gonna call that racist too, dumb fuck. I bet any video with the word "Arab" in the title, you'll go click on it with a smile on your face.
It is.
@@casualgerm Have you ever heard of something called Neomarxsism
@@drewerving7428 And Jews have dominated African slave trade all over America and Europe. What's your point?
omg too many ummmmms. never a good idea. Everyone should cut on it.
"African American Studies" Good idea. Send your kids to school, incur huge college debts, and get a useless degree. Good move.
But I have a Master's Degree in "Diversity Conversations for the Colored Man". I would assume that makes me the opposite of stupid.
maybe not a move with a high expected monetary value, but who are you to say it's not a good one for some people? Besides, most students will just take one or two classes in this subject, not major.
Paul Kersey you cannot attack the legitimacy of the content so you attack the utility of the degree. But are you a UCLA lecturer with publishing rights? Hmmm. I'm sure these student will turn out better than fine. you on the other hand are already LOST.
sorry, but you don't get to decide what's useless. if the only way you measure usefulness and uselessness is through a monetary lens, I truly feel bad for you.
@@ChannelMath it's useless.
