If you are familiar with the ouvre of Michelangelo Antonioni, or even "weird fiction" literature, like the books of Jeff Vander Meer, even early works from Lars Von Trier like a The Kingdom, you would be more likely to being able to connect with this film. I found it totally engrossing.
I saw the references to Antonioni’s work in the reviews and, although I know von triers work well, I haven’t seen the kingdom. I’ll definitely have to have a look at Antonioni. I’ve found that Trenques has stuck in my memory. I’m kind of feeling the urge to watch it again. Good to hear your views on it.
@@cliffreviewsarthouse try to watch Antonioni's Red desert, and The Passenger. The Kingdom was a miniseries. Also, after reading Annihilation, by Jeff Vander Meer, I found some parallels. For instance, the book is divided into chapters where each one offers the perspective of a different character. Then you have the element of "weird fiction", with characters mutating into animals, for instance.
Good point re the split -this is in my top 5 this year - just so original and genre mixing - you are brave to try and review this movie but i think you did a good job 👍
Yes, this is definitely one of those films that you have to experience for yourself! No review can really do the experience justice. I’m really glad I saw it and I’m thinking that I might actually watch it again!!
It is actually strangely compelling. It’s one of those films that I’ve thought about a lot afterwards. If I ever get time to watch it again, I have a feeling the experience might be a little bit Richer.

That best describes this film “engrossing”. I could not stop watching it.
