This gun was costly for the time and as my agency required us to furnish our own firearms, I took the expense of this gun as a tax deduction. I was subjected to a tax audit that year and of course the gun came up for question because of its price. My accountant said he didn't understand that deduction either because you could buy a gun for hundred dollars. 1. Bravo for House of Payne Ammunition, its accuracy and muzzle velocity obviously are first rate.
    2. I’m not a fan of +P+ rounds, especially in 9x19mm, due to potential firearms ware and premature malfunctions (even all steel one, such as the CZ 75B series).

      However, isn’t the truly critical matter “near instantaneous” hits that lawfully terminate the felons’ illegal and imminently mortal actions? Essentially all handguns are poor killers (80+ percent of those hit by handgun rounds survive). I’d suggest that, with a top quality defensive projectile, fired from any the popular sidearm chamberings (9x19 and .38 Special +P . . . and larger), essentially are equally effective. ACCURACY is the vital variable.

    There's a mindset these days that you must have a striker fired pistol that has a capacity of 17 rounds, an FDE finish, an infrared thermal bluetooth enabled RDS, a weapon mounted light that can be used as an arc welder, carry multiple spare 30 round mags, body armor, and have trained to be a 10th level tactical ninja ghost warrior. Otherwise, when a crack head tries to break into your home, you will be killed, brought back to life, killed again and your soul will be cast into the lake of fire.
    That said, my current stable of concealed carry guns include;
    1. Kimber Ultra Ten II .45ACP (10 round mag)
    2. Glock G30, also .45ACP with a 10 round mag
    3. S&W Shield Plus (Performance Center)
    4. Glock 26
    5. Glock 23 (OMG, a 40 S&W??? WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU! lol)
    If I'm out in the field or weather conditions permit me to carry a full size;
    1. Kimber Classic Target, 45ACP (my absolute favorite defense piece)
    2. Glock G20 10mm (that's better)
    3. Kimber Stainless Target II 10mm
    4. Glock 21 45ACP
    5. Kimber Stainless Target II 38 Super +P
    If compatibility with others in certain situations;
    6. SIG P320 9mm
    7. Glock G34 Gen 5
    I never feel under gunned with any of these.

    Good discussion HR, closing photo was funny!
    Of all of the pistols that I have carried and owned, my favorite is a Dan Wesson Specialist 1911, it is better made, smoothest and more accurate than my Kimber, Colt and Sig Sauer - ALL of which are chambered in 45ACP.
    But, to each his/her own. You choose the firearm and caliber, then train with it.
    Just don't even think of deriding anyone who carries a handgun, one that after +100 years in production, fought several wars and is still in production is a bad choice!
    I have used 45ACP and 40S&W caliber pistols to defend and protect myself and others and will continue to do so for the rest of my life!

    Great video. Love the solution for people suffering from NEDS. I am on a few online forum sites for not just guns, but cars also and there are always "those" people who strive for validation by bashing other brands in favor of their choice. Social media has created an entire generation of "keyboard-commandos" who jump on anything they disagree with in any topic. I agree that the 1911 brings out the bashers. Even when I am at the range shooting my carry gun, a government sized Colt 1911 in .45 acp, they give me that stink eye glance as they pull out their latest "Gucci" Glock wearing a plate carrier and duty belt like they are some Spec Ops guy about to storm a South American drug lord's jungle compound. These are usually younger guys all wrapped up in that "tacti-cool" stuff. I love shooting the 1911 and I am totally content and confident that it will defend me and my family if I ever face a bad guy intent on doing great bodily harm or death to me or my family. Haters gonna hate. Thanks again Howard.

      This is true -- and think about the fact that Glock earned its current "must-have" reputation through military and LEO issuance & use. Many people just say, "I want what ______ uses" and the blank has a mil branch or LEO branch inserted. And here we have hrfunk, USMC and LEO, sniper & instructor, vast experience, Chief, telling us how it is.
      The Glock will have its place in firearms history, that's already carved in granite. But it didn't displace the 1911 as the superior machine, overall, as a complete machine. The Glock, instead, carved its own niche in history -- first reliable, multi-use-done&demonstrated polymer frame pistol. But that trigger. And the grip ergos. Better than 1911? (oh did we talk about capacity for shooters who know they'll never train, ever?)

Hell, a Mauser 98 is striker fired son!
    You make an excellent point. No one attacks another gun owner for liking a Mauser or a Winchester Model 70. They are fantastic bolt action rifles. I think if most new shooters paid attention to what feels mechanically sound in their hands, shoots well for them -- and didn't listen to the marketing pressures to "need" 15+ rds capacity, most would choose a 1911 because overall, it feels like the most refined machine compared to the vast majority of striker-fired polymer pistols. I didn't get a chance to shoot a 1911 until I was about 1500 rds into my journey of handgun shooting. Immediately I wished I'd bought a 1911. Immediately. And some day I'll get one, because I admire the mechanical refinement it has, and the superb trigger.

    Who cares? Those who do not understand the the 1911 feel compelled to justify their alternative choice. Every handgun has its pros and cons, ultimately it is up to the individual to balance these factors. I agree ultimately they are trying to justify their decision. Sadly, the over arching policy of my church's protective ministry has stated the 1911 is not an authorize firearm. Consequently, I resigned from this from this position after qualifying and having one of the best scores of the group.. Sadly watching many my fellow members try to qualify with the wonder stick pistols, I can only feel a sense of regret. If I am asked to put my life and everything I have worked for my entire life on the line, then allow me to select the tool of my choice. The individual next to me said "That never would have happened if you had a Glock"! Now mind you I've had that 1911 over 40 years and paid $400 dollars for it and fired literally tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition threw it. In all that time that was the first and only failure I've had with that pistol and it wasn't even the pistol that failed but a cheap range magazine I use for training as I don't like dropping my expensive mags on the ground. Great video HR. I agree with your assessment. To me, a baby boomer, all my life, I read, and heard, all the famous history of 1911 pistol. My father, had a 1911, issued to him in the Army, during the Korean War. The 1911 was still being issued, when I started my military service, in 1978. The derangement seems to be generational, in a sense. Millennial, and Gen Z, folks grew up in what I call "The Polymer" generation, when Glocks came on the scene, and polymer pistols are now everywhere. Some of those folks, I think that the 1911 is too old school, and the polymer pistol is king now. They ignore that still about two dozen or more gun manufacturers, still produce new 1911s, every day. To this day, still, quite a number of armies, around the world, still issue it. Sure, it is an old design, but in trained professional hands, and fitted and tuned properly, it is still a pistol for today. For carry, I would only want people who are dedicated to learning the operation of the 1911, to a professional level. I have seen some young people too, who shoot a 1911 for the first time, and see a super wide grin, and they want one. I have a Dan Wesson 1911 Vigil CCO. 45acp, that is all ever wanted in a main 1911 carry gun.

    Currently 67 years old. I have been teaching shooting since 1970. I was 14 years old. I am either uniquely familiar with just about any firearm I've ever seen or I gain familiarity with them very quickly. My primary carry done for a long time was a 4-inch 357, even after I was teaching police officers to transition to semi-autos for at least 15 years probably 17. When I finally transitioned into a semi-auto I use this easy variant in 40 Smith. I currently have four primary carry guns, and they are that 40 Smith Witness, one of two 1911's, a standard Government model which is the most accurate Government Model ever fired in competition, and that is a documented reality. The gun has fired at the camp Perry match a597 on three different occasions. My gunsmith built it just for that match and sold it to me several years ago after his son passed away and he no longer had a use for this gun that he had carried for 22 years. It is uniquely tight but only where it is necessary to make it more accurate. The other 1911 is a Ruger Commander. I also have a P35 Browning hi-power which is an Argentine military, the most accurate 9 mm I've ever witnessed. It shoots ball ammo into a single hole. And of course my last one is a 357 4 in Ruger Security 6. I have carried a couple of others. I've carried a 4 5/8 inch 44 and or a 4 and 5/8 in 41 as my primary carry gun a few times. They are more than adequate for the job. Nobody builds a firearm that functions better than a properly functioning 1911. It just doesn't exist in reality on this planet in this dimension that we all are a part of. And I damn well refuse to carry a glock because I cannot find one that the trigger doesn't feel like a daisy pistol. And I despise Firearms without safeties. Safeties have saved more police officers lives than I can shake a stick at and yet now most of them carry these Glocks that have no safety on them, they don't even have a proper slide release on him. That is a slide stop on that gun it is not designed to be a slide release. I'm surprised they even took the time to put the mag release on the side of the pistol instead of on the hill like most of the European idiots do. At least they did learn one thing. I still don't understand the lever on the trigger thing it is not a safety and all it is, is just there. Gives people some sort of a false sense of security somehow, I just think it's in the way.

    I'm 27 and an active duty Marine on my 7th year of service. While off duty I used to carry a 1911. Now I carry a Hi Power clone (SA 35). And most definitely, I remember getting a lot of flak from my friends about carrying a 1911. Which was dumb because mine never gave me any problems. Great video, and hopefully, some other folks get over NDS. The M14 also gets a LOT of hate for no reason. I own an LRB Arms match made M14 and everybody knocks it until they shoot it. Semper Fi, Sir and thank you for your great videos!

    I think that the writings of Jeff Cooper and some of the USPSA/IPSC Match Rules have had a lot to do with some shooters developing 1911 Derangement Syndrome.
    Some poorly made copies of the 1911 may also have contributed to it as well. Currently, I have two 1911's in my Collection of useful Artifacts.
    I like them and could employ them as Defensive Handguns, should I choose to do so. Have recently thought about adding a Commander style 1911 for carry.
    Excellent Video and Discussion and your remedy was a good one! In the end, it does not matter what you are armed with, it's what you can do with
    what you are armed with, that counts!

    I have seen this quite a lot of this when anyone does not fall in line with the Glock and AR15 religion. Choosing a revolver or even a TT-33 will draw vehement charges of heresy. Personally I prefer revolvers or DA/SA pistols but I would certainly chose a 1911 or similar over a Glock or its imitators any day of the week. But in the long run whatever fits you and that you are skilled with is the tool for the job.

    I grew up shooting. I've been shooting for over 35 years. When I started shooting pistols I began with a ruger mk 1, I chose to carry a Beretta m9 for years and can shoot one very well. I was adamant that the 1911 was not for me, it was old and only had a few rounds. Then I shot a good 1911. Now I carry a 1911 every single day. A well made 1911 makes a good shooter a better shooter.

    When i Took my CCW course in Florida the former Police Chief of Sowells Point taught it. During the course he was adamant that if you used -any- gun other than a glock you were being irresponsible and flippant with your personal safety as no other pistol was reliable. You would think someone who was a professional and should have known better than to have such an incredibly ignorant outlook (not hating on Glocks here but that point of view is not based in reality, especially not these days) but he didn't. I would think NDS comes from a similar place where anything other than the platonic ideal of a personal defense pistol is categorically unacceptable to them.

    Like you said, people seeking the best and when they get something they perceive is the best, whether it is or isn't, they defend it and that can lead some to develop and hold prejudices. Many people get caught up in seeking the best when realistically there are often several things that are "the best" and the deciding factor in choosing amongst them will be personal preferences. There's a difference between having "preferences" and having "preferences that are backed by prejudices".
    As someone who loves Classic Vehicles, I see these behaviors directed toward Vehicle Brands frequently. My personal preferences are Classic Ford Trucks, I have a 1980 F150 Flare Side 4x4 that had a 1969 Big Block 460 swapped in, I named her Sally and I surely love her and see her as a huge Blessing to my life. Her generation was very efficient as Trucks and held the title of best selling Trucks in America. This does not mean that Trucks from other companies are not good, but some perceive it as such and feel it goes against their personal preferences and talk trash where ever and how ever they can. Some don't like Sally for no other reason than the "Ford" markings on her, with disregard to how great she surely is as a Truck. Some people are the same way with firearms.
    These prejudices are sometimes started by people bragging though, obviously. And most people will feel the need to defend their preferences against people trash talking against them just because theirs may or may not have did better in some way. It's sometimes difficult to do, but I see it logical to take the psychological path and recognize that they are trash talking to make themselves feel better, meaning they have insecurities. And to often try to get a negative reaction out of someone at the same time. So why give them what they want... though sometimes you got to shut them up somehow lol
    I have, like everyone else, preferences. But I won't hold prejudices, I think it is foolishness and I would disappoint God if I were to hold foolish prejudices. I have handled firearms but I sadly don't personally own any firearms yet, only because I can't afford any at the moment. But when I'm finally able, my first firearm will be a 1911. I have always wanted one since I found out about them as a youngun. The long and successful service life and history the 1911 has with our Military is absolutely noteworthy and respectable. Our Military used it well, and many favored it and trusted it with their life. Some still do to this day. They gave the 1911 the nickname "The Man Stopper" for good reasons. I also personally see it as the most beautiful Pistol, and its Steel construction is also very appealing to me. Even if I didn't like it, I would never trash talk on it simply for the amount of respect I see it has earned in the hands of our Military. And as I hold great respect and admiration for them, I will also do the same for their equipment that didn't fail them.
    There is a saying, "Old Is Gold". I live by this. I personally desire more Classic Firearms than I do newer ones, just as I do Vehicles.
    By the way, that ending was subtly brutal, hilarious, and quite fitting lol Thank you for your service

    Thing is, the 1911 isn't outdated. Most pistols still use a tilting barrel, short recoil mechanism and most pistols have its basic ergonomics. The only thing the original design may lack is features, but features are all easily backported to the base gun these days.
    Which really shows you how little handgun technology has actually evolved more than anything else.

      And they are made of polymer, have double stack mags, usually no safety. In some cases modular and probably less likely to need maintenance.

    • @gameragodzilla
      @gameragodzilla Год назад

      @@FoulPet There are 1911s with double stack magazines (I'm carrying one now), polymer frames (2011s have polymer grips and Bul Armory even made a full polymer frame), early 1911 prototypes also didn't have a thumb safety, and are plenty modular with the amount of aftermarket support. So the only thing is they need more maintenance, but on the flip side, seem to do better in adverse conditions than Glocks like in Garand Thumb's test.
      Ultimately, that's my point: The only major advancements since the 1911 have been features, not core operating mechanisms or ergonomics. And all those features can easily be backported into the original design. And if you're gonna say "Well, a 2011 isn't a 1911", that's like saying a Mk. 18 isn't an AR-15 because it isn't like a Colt SP-1.

      @gameragodzilla well typically not a "true" 1911 and I had a double stack Para that was like carrying a brick. 2011s are 2011s not 1911 its a redesign 1911. But they've developed more than Glock has. A G19 isn't a G20 but they have similarities.
