Why do you want the compaction in your fields when you do so much to avoid compaction
I'm not a farmer so I don't understand
Excellent question!
Two reasons but primarily one. First and most importantly is to mash the rocks and dirt clumps down so when harvest comes we will have a smooth surface to run our headers low without worrying about beating up our combines with rocks. Peas and most pulse crops are short in nature and we have to harvest pretty low. Second is it helps compact the seed and soil which improves germination. We don't like too much compaction but a little is good.
There is close to zero soil compaction. Pound rocks down and give the seeds a better seed bed
Compressing the soil from top to bottom is bad. Flattening the top layer ensuring seed to soil contact is necessary. The roller spreads the weight out evenly and does compaction where it is needed for the seed bed. If a tractor gets stuck or something runs in the same spot repeatedly it compresses down deep, slowly water and nutrient movements and stunts/stops plant growth. Blessings
The ground PSI of a roller doesn’t cause significant compaction. Heavy machines on the other hand do cause quite a bit of compaction.
We roll peas, lentils and also the wheat. When you are cutting right on the ground you don't bring in rocks or to much dirt.
Wheat is good to roll just incase here is Sask we get an early snow or bad lodging from the wind makes it so much easier to combine without worrying about putting the header in the dirt
"We barley know what we're doing"... Cracked me up more than it should :)
The “Papa Welker” one liners crack me up. 🤣 Said it before sure enjoy the channel y’all. 👍🇺🇸🙏
That is a huge Land Roller.. man those peas and barley was dirty now I c why you wanted to clean them. Be safe and careful and god bless
Nice to see the drone back🇺🇸🇩🇰🇺🇸
You guys have really been amping up your game over the last couple years. I'm hoping you all get a good harvest this year!
what are you talking about, they have the amptage because of the youtube. minimum upgrades and demos left and right. if the demos stop that farm would be back in stone age
What a team! Bob you have done an amazing job raising your boys! I sure hope your as proud of them as we all are. But bob you really need too keep your jokes “cleaner” !🤣🤣
I need to "separate" the "p.."from the "q. S" in the humor.....😊
That seed cleaner is a blessing! Great job on it. So nice to have control over the seed you plant.
Good to see the SNAKE CHARMER around the farm again. Best wishes to all this year!!🙏🙏🙏
While the bulk of our tractors were diesel, we had one gas tractor. It occasionally got diesel fuel put in the tank by accident. She smoked a lot and ran a bit rough, but tolerated the mixed fuel.
I love the maroon Peterbuilt. I hope you give it some love and don’t replace it. The pre-emission trucks are the way to go at this time.
Oh my lord! That is a massive roller ! Peautiful cleaner I Barley could contain my self .
Nice job on the cleaner guys! Also glad you will be back in action without surgery Nick!
Well what a beautiful grain cleaner you ended up with does a great Job Bob, Nick & Scott, all you need is a finer sieve and it will be almost perfect, your cleaned samples looked very good, Your Team work as a Family is Highly Commendable , just love you fellows, keep up the great work your a inspiration to all Farmers & Families, Bless you Bob & Family, regards Trevor.W.Bacelli. Biloela Qld Australia.
What a nice weather you got. Here we still have 1feet snow😄 Great to se all 3 of you are healty and working. 👍👍// SWEDEN
I miss living with farmers great people
It's always awesome to see Wiggles on the farm. Good to see him back. Amazing content. Thanks and God Bless to the Welkers!
Great 2nd opinion from the Dr.! LegArms will need to continue to clean the shop!😉 Great to see Wiggles ready to go!
Safe planting Welker's!
Love seeing all of your miracles. God's love will always make the day!!!
Bob I know this sounds weird, but your kinda addictive. When you start talking I find myself anticipating the one liner. Love you guy's.
He never fails to deliver! I'm glad the whole world now gets to appreciate his awesome, punny sense of humor.
Spring Blessings
May rain come for a strong crop
Hello from Moosomin ,Saskatchewan, Canada Great videos you put out thanks for sharing.
Good news on your shoulder. Great video. God bless
Been watching you guys for a long time and always enjoy everything you share. Also can I add that father is so gifted with puns! They never get old and always makes me laugh! Hoping you have a great 2022 growing season!
Nick I hope your chest and shoulder heal up well. . Glad you guys have the loader, skidsteer and crane in the shop, you need to take care of your body, you are not a teenager anymore.. I hope Scott's arm is really better. Stay safe and healthy Welker family.
Good to see the cleaner doing it's job, quite an accomplishment building that and have it working so well.
Hello from Joplin Missouri I'm new to your blogs but like what I'm see thank you for sharing
Them Boy's Love smoking that Diesel. Thank you and God Bless you Welker's. Love all the hard work!!!
Well that zipped by in a hurry! 85 feet?! I'll bet you're slinging some heavy steel there! Wiggles will enjoy using the Big Bud to roll the ground. That grain cleaner is boss! What a build! That will save some time and money doing your own cleaning when you want to do it and not having to get someone in to do it.
Love the seed cleaner that you guys fabbed together. Can you go over the leagality of how your able to clean your own seeds? I know there is a ton of stuff out there that most crops grown are not able to be saved for future use as a seed. I am specially talking about patents on seed and other methods where it makes it illegal to save.
Certain seed companies allow you to clean your own seed.
skid steer looks so cute next to the loader, like a kitten trying to please its mother LOL
good news on the medical front.
trust me you would not want bone anchors drilled into bones to keep your arm attached.
You guys work all the time . The good part is ever thing you all do , works an makes a great improvement for your farm an job . You can tell right off who the smart one is in the crew ,dad you did a great job !!! You guys watch the old man he will teach you somthing . You all are the best keep the videos rolling. Thanks
Nick, glad you didn't have a rotator cuff tear. I tore mine a few years ago. Surgery was okay, but the 12 weeks of rehab was absolute torture. Good luck to you man!
WOW …YOU GUYS …. this is one of your best videos… all the music ..drone flying above jus AS
WS
AWESOME
Why is it that Welker Farms gets so many Demo’s and have very low probability of purchasing a new piece of equipment? I know a bunch of farmers and they buy equipment fairly often but, they never get any new product demos. Great video! God Bless!
If you look at the opening of the video it says in partnership with Case IH..
Thanks for another great video all. It was interesting and enjoyable for sure.
Nick, thanks for the update on your shoulder. Glad you do not need surgery. Take it easy on that injury and be careful. Thanks.
The cleaner you all built is really paying you back in the farm operation. Great machine. Helps you all get projects done.
Good puns Bob!!!!
Always like your puns.
Somebody tried to put a “wrench” in the works. But you caught it.
The roller you are doing demo on is huge. Believe you said 80 foot. Now that is a big roller and horsepower to pull it. Good to hear that wiggles is coming out to help run the demo roller.
That will eat up the ground fast. Nice machine. Looking forward to some feedback from you on this rollłer.
Guess about it for now.
You all take care and be safe.
Looking forward to the next video.
Thanks for everything.
Appreciate all the filming and editing you do for us.
The drone shots at the end of the video were just great!!!!! Thanks.
See you all next time.
The Iowa farm boy.
Steve.
👍
I think it’s so cool how one of yer old JD combine’s engines is still helping put in the crop and take all the bushels off in the fall in the old auger tractor
Great to see you guys getting ready and seeding. God bless you all and your crops this year
Very enjoyable session! I love your dad’s sense of humor! I wonder if you guys appreciate his humor as much as I do!
Oh, his kids certainly do! We love our Grand Puntiff! 😂 Dad (Bob) never fails to make those around him laugh.
I can see that your work is getting a bit easier since all the bin work, the landscaping, and host of other stuff... I was impressed with how clean stuff got! good to hear the mend is on its way Nick
Great to see 2021 crop is getting ready to go back into the ground for your 2022 harvest. Let’s hope you have a great year this year. God bless you all and your family. Rob from the 🇬🇧🍺👍
Well it's probably nice having help. Definitely helps a lot having people to help. Glad it's looking good so far your season. Here's hopefully to a better few years for everyone out there, no matter what you do or who you are.
May God bless your family and helpers.
Bob, your dad jokes do us dads proud!!!
Enjoying the 'Dry Bar" comedy from the "Old Man"!!!!!!!
May God bless you with a great season.
I spotted one issue with your seed cleaner. You need to add a swivel seat with a back to it so to watch the seed cleaning process.....I'm kidding. I saw Dad sitting there watching the machine.
You guy that farm are a lot of things but lazy is not one of them. Keep up the good work. God Bless
if planting goes well, you should be able to take the cleaner on tour. should only take a couple years to work out customer base and scheduling. by then, kids can take over when school's out.
Well, you guys are sure enough busy. Seed cleaner seems to work very well. God Bless
Certainly enjoy your videos & definitely Bob’s corney jokes, keep them coming.. thanks for taking us along..
Might just be me but I love seeing straight trucks still doing work.
Watching the grain cleaner being built and now successful running makes me feel like I'm part of the farm!
Thanks for bringing us along!
sometimes the best equipment anywhere is what has been specialy fabricobbled together from this and that bits and peices laying around.
The 454 running on gas with some diesel fuel caused me to think way back when my father was working on their family farm. He said that they would run their farm tractor on gas and when it was warmed up, they had a device to add diesel to the gasoline when the tractor was running. They had the idea that the tractor had more power. That was in Saskatchewan. Farming sure has changed from the good ole days. I cannot check any of the details because my grandfather and my father are no longer on this earth. Of course, when the stories were being told, we often rolled our eyes and figured, here we go . . . with another story. 😊
With up grading the implements it will soon be time to put bigger engines in the Big Buds.
If you are struggling with weight to pull that 85 foot land roller with a big bud Tony Fast is going to have some serious issues pulling that 100 foot drill with a Steiger!
Glad your cleaners working out so well. Was fun to watch you build it
Nice drone footage, good to hear that your tear isn't to serious.
Good news then on the medical front - just be sure you do NOT overstress those injured areas. Truly they need time to heal. Another nicely done video, that 85 footer is well, huge! Any news about the lake home this year, plan-wise?
thanks for the hard work you do to feed my family
Loved the video of the cleaner!
Wow just noticed you have over 500k subscribers! I remember when you had 50k, feels like yesterday 😅 god bless
your farm operation is as amazing as it is fascinating! God Bless you all…and thank you for your efforts! 👍👍👊👊🙏🙏🙏
That cleaner is a nice build.
You guys are hard working- smart-thank you !
The grain cleaner sure is slowly paying for itself. You'll get the screen sizes figured out sooner or later. Then it should be 'smooth' sailing from there on. Hope the crew, family and you are doing well. Take care - Be safe and God Bless.
Back in my day we cleaned the beans by hand, sittin around the kitchen table
Got to love when a plan comes together. Great job
God Bless your farm, and have a great day!!
Nice roller ! We have a 70 foot summers roller we roll after we plant soybeans and black beans. We will roll also if we plant corn after corn to knock down the stalks so the row units on the planter ride smoothly. I rolled some hay ground for a neighbor on Tuesday. We pull ours with a hn 250 big bud. Great video
Cool. Did you upgrade the steering hand pump?
@@RobertWelkerFarmerBob I want to say yes that dad replaced that pump but I'm honestly not sure! Dad normally works on the older equipment I stick to the new stuff. We found our hn 250 sitting in a fence row about 5 years ago while do a drain tile job . We received the tractor as part of the payment for the job . It had a bad motor and the transmission needed some attention. We had the block gone through at our local engine shop and We tuned it up now it produces a little over 350hp . We have a neighboring farm just south of us that runs 2 large big buds like your 600 . Around here you just don't see many of them .
I don’t know if you’re gonna read this comment or not but my recommendation would be please put some potash and nitrogen down. In 1988 which was arguably one of the hottest years in western Canada I had a successful barley and milling oats crop. Manny will tell you that I’m dry years potash is more important than ever it gives you stem strength.
Awesome as usual guys. Hey you both golf a bit try to find time to watch some of the Masters many don’t like Tiger but what a come back from injury which both of you understand completely.
Excellent video guys. I absolutely love Bob's humor, reminds me of Hee-Haw.
Great video Welker Farms
The doctors told me with my torn rotator cuff , they wouldn't do surgery because they found people that do physical work the surgery does more harm long term than leaving it so I just did physical therapy which helped greatly.
Bob ...my favorite pun was "We barley know what we are doing..!"
Amazing how much farm equipment is made in Canada.
so many video's, You guys posted Brian (Brians farming videos, Cole (Cole the cornstar),Zack(between the rows),Cody (WhistlenDiseal), Tony (fast ag) and Chet (Larson farms) posted today
Sounds like movie night to me 🍿🎥
Ain't that the kind that Zach has on his farm
I might still be working for my nephew If All Grain bins could be opened and closed with a rope from the ground. Your seed cleaner barley leaves 0.001% unsuitable residue in your seed , NICE!
Finally got a mike Mitchell sized roller.
Joining you, Nick, in thanking God that your injury is not more serious. Last year it was Scott's arm which was terrible but so much to thank God for in his recovery. Take it easy and don't push too hard. Prayer for continued healing.
Great video keep the awesome content coming. Prayers for a good crop.God Bless and Stay Safe
When I first started watching you guys it was so much different on the equipment you had then to now
Praise the Lord for the positive report on your health.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 ESV
Great video guys I sure hope that Mandingo Land roller works awesome for you on your pea and lentil ground
That would roll my peas this year in about 20 mins lol
Go Wiggles can’t wait to see you using the roller 👍🇺🇸
Glad to hear your rotator cup is ok I had mine tore so bad that the doctor told me that if I was a football player I would be done that was one ruff operation to go threw I still have some days that it bothers me
Feeding the algorithm, cheering on Let’s go Brandon!
The puns this episode... on point lol.
You guys just keep 'rolling' along😁
would like to see you finish putting the guards on the cleaner
Spot on Randy when you are pressed for time is when you need the covers the most
Keep checking the oil in that service truck. It will burn the gas and the diesel will wash pass the piston rings deluding the oil.
That madako is just over 10 times the with we use in ireland(8ft)
Make sure you check your oil as the Diesel may not burn and it will wash down the cylinders and dilute the oil and lower the oil pressure speaking from experience LOL
Great vídeo Welkers.
Love Bob’s humor
Bob I love the play on words, like mine they are 2/3 a pun; PU
