I do agree that some of his movies are a bit derivative in structure especially after Your Name. The conflict in Suzume and weathering with you are resolved too quickly without much consequences or drawbacks to the characters. It worked for Your Name as the build up to the finale was great, ending on a more bittersweet note similar to the garden of words. The emotional impact, music and visuals do always deliver though. I would love to hear your opinion on some of his other movies as well.

Generally liked and enjoyed every film since Garden of Words, but I don't remember or have any fondness to the films prior to that, with 5cm per second being an exception.
