Thank you so much Thomas! I’m part of the FulltimeGameDev Community. I live in Asheville, NC. The devastation has been unreal. Needless to say we were not prepared for this. Thank God my family is safe and we are grateful for the entire community working together. While running water is not in sight, we received power back in our neighborhood within the first 48 hours. I just got decent cell and Internet services back today. Again thanks for doing good works and keep the content coming!
I love in NC closer to the coast. I'm so mad about what's going on over there. The helicopter operator who was told to stop rescuing people or get arrested. People told not to help others. The government offering just $650 for anyone effected.... This is so mismanaged and it's infuriating! So many people need help!
That sounds like just Serious Needs Assistance. That’s not all that’s available. FEMA has info on their website about this and how to apply for more. There’s a lot of misinformation floating around right now, and scenes like this are often expectedly chaotic. There’s a lot to coordinate between a lot of areas and a lot of different people, and it doesn’t all go smoothly, unfortunately.

We had a similar disaster here in Brazil this year where almost a whole city was flooded by extremely excessive rain that caused a river to overflow. Many many people lost their entire homes, many are still missing and we still have no prediction as to when the city will be rebuilt, it was a pretty big disaster so I feel your pain even if I didn't get affected by it. I really hope the people affected by it overcome this situation and can start to live their lives normally as soon as possible, just to think of what they could have been through is pretty scary. Wish you all the best, I truly believe people will keep helping and soon everything will be alright.
I just lost my job, and not only do I have no savings, but I also have debts (and the gaming scene is not doing great). My wife is also unemployed, and sometimes when faith wavers, it’s a pretty scary feeling. However, it definitely amps up the empathy for similar situations. I know that it’s nothing compared to this. I can’t financially support right now, but I’ll surely pray for them.
I'm in a similar situation as you, but I just got my Psychological First Aid certification for free yesterday. Now I can help in these disasters as a psychological first responder
Didn’t know you were in South Carolina. I’m in western North Carolina. It was rough. Others had it way worse than us the closer toward the Appalachians you get. There’s towns my family will never be able to see again because they simply disappeared. Helping friends who lost portions of their home clear debris. Wishing you and your family the best. As well as others affected. Edit: cell service is awful here right now but managed to put some in the jar
Thank you for raising awareness, i'm definitely donating! I'm from the Netherlands and I had planned a trip to the beautiful Lake Lure, but I was shocked to find out how hard the area was hit and cut off from the outside world after Helene! I heard that Chimney Rock is completely gone now and I can't begin to imagine how hard it must be for the people living in the area. Even though I'm sure these people will stay strong and try to make the best of the situation, they'll need all the help they can get from the outside world to recover from the terrible destruction. My deepest sympathy goes out to you all at this difficult time.
At my store in Winston-Salem, NC we're getting a number of people from the Asheville area picking up supplies. The stories we hear are heartbreaking. No power, no running water and, as mentioned in the video, homes that are just gone. I can't imagine having everything just washed away, especially for those that lost loved ones. Going to throw at least a few dollars towards that gofundme. Won't be much since I'm horribly broke, but skipping a lunch or two for it certainly won't kill me.
I have lived in Florida all my life, and I have never seen anything like this. I thank God that my town was not hit too bad. Thank you Thomas, for spreading the word.
I can’t imagine how tough things are right now. The way everything has taken a turn lately is hard to understand, and I know it’s been rough with the hurricane. But don’t lose hope-you’re an incredible person with the strength to bounce back. All of the people affected, including you, will find their way home again. Take care and stay strong.
Hey, Thomas! Very nice of you helping people in way you can! And as i'm from Kyiv and can't help much rn but take some prayings for everyone being safe and fed and warm and under the roof.

Thank you Thomas for putting this out there and using your platform to spread the word and help those people. I live in more eastern North Carolina, but the mountains hold such a special place in my heart. I know people personally who have been up there delivering supplies and helping out. It is so much worse than what is getting reported and it's such a shame that the news isn't letting people know how bad it actually is. While I never got far into it (not yet anyway) this video and your want to use your platform to help makes me all the more proud to be a part of the full time game dev community.

Hi Thomas, I live in Poland, Europe and currently we have our own problems because of the floods. People have lost their life's possessions. I don't know if maybe the floods and hurricanes are a sign from the planet earth that we are parasites, but we need to start taking care of our planet because it's heading in a dangerous direction.
Thank you for bringing this up. Why is there so little media coverage of this event? Why is FEMA actively blocking people from helping/bringing supplies? Why is our government spending billions upon billions of dollars on foreign wars and funding illegal immigration, but can't help out with this local disaster? I know the answers, but people need to ask themselves these questions.
1) Spending on foreign wars keeps the enemy from our borders. 2) No government is funding illegal immigration. 3) Under the personal responsibility right wing logic, why didnt the victims pay for hurricane insurance beforehand? Why didnt they work hard enough to be able to afford it? Why are they waiting for the evil government to help them?
Praise the Lord good people still help these days. The Lord did warn natural disasters would increase close to his coming. I just pray we all seek the Lord for refuge. As he promises Psalms 18:30 New International Version (NIV) "As for God, his way is perfect: The LORD’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him." Take refuge in the God of all love, all peace, all security. Let him be your shield in these tough days.
Why stop on Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan? If you decide to manipulate let's talk about trillions and trillions US spend per year to terrorize half of planet. Or trillions that go on maintaining dozens of military bases around the world? Why spend those money if US don't even in war, right? What is criminal is insurance once again not covering their end. You pay these companies thousands of dollars, then when you really truly need them? Nah, sorry we won't cover that... We need insurance reform, all insurance, health, home, car, rental. Many cases you're required to have it, but then they can just say no when you need them?
I also think it's criminal that we pay taxes into a system that is supposed to be there for things like this.... And all the money is gone! They spent it already, and they didn't even spend it on national disasters they spent it on pet projects. But they can expand the debt for other nations and pet projects, but this? You think insurance is a scam, look at the government. The government allows scams because they are one too.
@@tanuguitar1 this a completely inappropriate comment that is not the cause of the natural disaster. The cities are receiving aid and using a natural disaster as an excuse to push a political agenda against other people in need, is frankly disgusting.
@@thomasbrush exactly, insurance shouldn't be a game of gotcha for victims of disasters. There are so many insurance products out there and if you don't have the right $20 add-on, suddenly your home can be eradicated from an unpredictable disaster and your insurance can just say "Sorry Joe, you didn't give us $5 last month for special condition insurance coverage under subsection 14a-2b and we don't have to cover you for any damages." They always position it as saving you money to segment coverage, but I've only ever seen it used against victims in need.
Dont wanna sound mean, but hola crap, I live at the caribean in a fucking island, and I've lives maaany huracanes, at least 2 per year. You Know what would help a lot? Stop making stick houses. Like the story of the 3 pigs and the bad Wolf, commn guys it isnt that difficult to comprehend.

There are so many insurance products out there and if you don't have the right $20 add-on, suddenly your home can be eradicated from an unpredictable disaster and your insurance can just say "Sorry Joe, you didn't give us $5 last month for special condition insurance coverage under subsection 14a-2b and we don't have to cover you for any damages."
They always position it as saving you money to segment coverage, but I've only ever seen it used against victims in need.
