A walkthrough of my build of the ultimate realistic wire tree.
This isn't a quick build, so if you're after a whole forest then you can simplify the process somewhat. But this wire frame tree is meant to be hyper-realistic - a showpiece, with vines and ivy and sculpted bark.
The joy of making realistic dioramas and scenery is found in focussing on the details. It's a meditative process. Take your time, absorb yourself in the finer aspects and you won't even notice time passing.
It would make a great centrepiece for a wargaming terrain table and it would add the wow factor to any model railway layout.
Many of the materials and tools I use come with safety instructions. Please always read and follow these rather than simply copy what you see me or other people doing.
If you value these videos, and find them useful in creating your own realistic scenery, you may wish to support me on Patreon.

In a word........ BRILLIANT!
Great tree. Love how you focused on the crawlers and bark details rather than the branches and leaves. Great way to model dead or dying tree.
Well, you’re not going to get more realistic than that, great work
Thank you so much for showing us how to make fantastic trees - and you're right they are the ultimate in realism.
Glad you found it useful and enjoyed it 😊
Just an alternative to the milliput but liquid latex is a great way to cover the main body of the tree, it allows you to keep the texture of the wire allowing for that old knarled look while staying flexible even after it dries, it does take paint well and if your doing large amounts of these trees works out cheaper.
Apart from that, great video and a very realistic looking tree at the end, thanks.
Thanks. I've used latex before. For this tree I was after something carvable, for bark texture, so.i went with the Milliput. Latex is great, though.
YAY!!! You said it !!! Love your videos Merrick keep up the amazing content .. and hope you kick that cold soon
thank you! this is exactly what I needed for my witch house
Now that’s treemendus buddy 🍻👍
For whatever reason i didnt get the pun earlier even though i knew i clicked on a tree video and it wasn't until 75% if the way through that i understood😂😂
You make it look so easy..........it isn't - lol! Great video 👍
Absolutely brilliant!
Outstanding work, details on the tree trunk are wonderful...Have to try it!
Fantastic tutorial. Pre-made trees are so expensive and not that good. As a budget diorama builder, I love this!
Also, as a Brit living in the US, it’s nice to hear a familiar accent! 🇬🇧👍🏾
very educational, thank you. super job and so realistic , first time I have been on your site. Will be back.
Super work.
Best realistic tree ive found to make! I going to try this to a diorama im making but im going to make a large twig to make the base. Really like how you did the grass:)))
Really awesome tutorial. The detail is insane.
This time it’s even better than a 3D model the texture looks so real !
Ps I’m happy About the voice over videos (There just a bit more exciting)
Another awesome video mate 👍🏻👍🏻
Man, you are really good! Thanks for the tutorial.
Amazing work. Well done..
Superb work as well!!
Thank you 😊

Thank you!
Che bravo👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😍
Fantastic video. Thnx 🙏👌👌👌
Hi Merrick,
another extremely interesting video. I always enjoy watching your videos! Brenda
Nice tutorial, thanks for sharing a bit of your skills with us. I've see some people coating the tree with maskol, but then the tree gets flexible. Your technique of using milliput is far better, definitely more realistic. Congrats. Alex
Fantastic... Just Fantastic! :O
tysm!! this video is really helpful, thanks again for the explanation
FELICITARI ! Ina, Romania

I've recently found this and i love the videos! I like sped up videos with just music or full length videos with you talking over it. Just my personal opinion i get bored with just music but i have a short attention spand. Just a little opinion from a fan idk if it will resonate with other viewers but oh well. Still going to watch these instead of sleeping!
Thanks for the feedback. Interesting point and I will think about it! 😊
WOW! Excellent tutorial. The realism is astounding. Now I know why Luke Towan subs your channel, you're BOTH AMAZING!
Thank you 😊
Grrr to the flickering😂😂😂
Ever thought about growing your own Seafoam seeds available on the Internet for a few quid
I have, but I haven't done it yet. Tbh, I like the weeds better 😊
Awesome! But...it's better to carve textures on the trunk before attaching the branches.
Great tutorial, thanks for taking the time to make it. Where do you get your "craft wires" from, I've had a look around a few places in the UK but not really found anything similar?
Hi, just finding your tree build. Love it. I do Christmas villages and wanted realistic trees. How long does the hold u with the organic twigs on it?
Thanks
The music is too loud. It's just not necessary. That being said...as always, another great tutorial. Thanks.
I think it's a case of my voice being a bit broken 😫 😊
I also like the music
your tutorial was great the best I have seen and your voice was easy to understand I have trouble following some because they talk to loud, to much and to fast and their accent is hard for me to follow
I’ve never heard of milliput I’m in the US. I’m assuming it’s called the same here? I’m making decor for my wedding and this was a huge help!
Great video. What gauge wire did you use?
love this! what size guage wire do you use?
Thank you 😊 I can't remember. Very cheap florist's wire.
Looks Great but a lot of work. why not use Sage Bush branches. Most realistic trees out there.
Not really available over here. There are lots of ways of making trees, but Sage is very good!
I like beautiful diorama
And do u giveaways
Thank you. No giveaways at the moment
Thank you when u think giveaway is good ?
Beautiful work....gonna give your method a try..... what state do you live in you got weed branches like that ? I am in houston and have not seen any like that.....
I would but some from you.........
I live in England 😊
@@HighEyeWorkshop the seafoam comes from England I ordered....I will be in Thailand end of the feb. for 2 months.....if I don't find something similar I will be back, haha
Maybe you need to get out of the city. :) There are lots of trees, shrubs everywhere in the country. If you're using a really small scale, certain dried weed stems and roots look good.
@@medog22 i am going to Thailand next week for 2 months. I am sure i will find what i need.
Thanks steve
Could I use a regular air drying clay for this or Fimo?
Fimo would be ok, but expensive
Gulp!!!, puke, Brilliant. Another thing I'm inadequate at lol
Hey High Eye, I had a question. Do you make dioramas as a living? If so can you tell me how you do?
No, I don't. It's tough finding the time to do them, to be honest!
@@HighEyeWorkshop I've been trying to start some type of career involving dioramas. I've become really fond of them. Watching your videos to try to help my skills. Do you know how or what path to go along?
I really don't know, except to show people how you make them on RUclips
@@HighEyeWorkshop ok. Thank you very much for the info. I'll continue to watch your vids. Thank you for the tutorials!
Can I use Blu Tak instead of the milliput?
No, Mulliput gardens as it is an epoxy.
good job ?
What did this tree cost?
To make? About £3
@@HighEyeWorkshop ok i thougt a lot more , thnx nice utorial!
I suggest everyone wear gloves with epoxy.
It is too easy to become sensitized to it even if you have no immediate reaction.
Once that happens you will get a skin reaction to it just being in the same room as it fumes.
song name plzzzzz😩😩😩😩😩😫😫😫
I can hardly hear anything you're saying. Get rid of the music (or have it very low) and move your mic closer or invest in a better one. Other than that, the video is great

BTW, 2 thumbs down!!!!!!!!!! Really ?
Sorry to say but due to the music it is almost impossible to hear you speak.
Please do a next one without music.
Never let an amateur loose with a video editing kit- turn the bloody music off! I love your tree mate, but come on.
...not nice! 🤔
