The wedding scene hits different when you realize the world ended in 2003, where the first state didn’t legalize gay marriage until 2004. They never knew the joy of that possibility in their lives until they decided to just do it themselves. 😭❤️

Been married literally half my life to the same woman. That’s a whole lot of fights, crises and illness we went through. But it’s also wrapped up in a whole lot of love.
I truly enjoyed this episode because it illustrates the true nature of marriage and love. It may appear long during the process but it is truly precious and fleeting . Even if you hang in there and don’t quit, it will still come to an end.
Live your life folks to the fullest and love who loves you.

This wasn’t The Last Of Us story that many wanted, Tameeka but it’s The Last Of Us story that many more of us discovered we needed. Sorry it hit hard. You’re not alone. I knew 34 people who died of Covid before the first vaccine was available- friends, coworkers, clients, and in one instance a daughter, mother, and grandparents all died in one family. It’s been a rough 2-3 years for everyone.
Ending on a lighter note- I’m so glad that you’re excited about your new house, and studio space, Tameeka. It’s always exciting getting to move some place you want to be. Again- good luck, and thanks for this reaction!
    Cheers- Jameson

They did a real risk having 46 minutes of the episode devoted to these characters in the third episode. Not simply for the gay storyline, or having it be so different for the source material, but also having it be well over half the episode's runtime. Sure, the show may be about Joel and Ellie, but this shows that it isn't just about those two. Many did not appreciate it, but many many many very much did.

This episode was super necessary. It's to highlight the difference between surviving and living. Bill and Joel are survival experts, they know how to prep and how to stay alive. But were they living?
Over time Bill finds a reason to actually live, a purpose. Joel reflects on that while reading Bill's letter. How she died not having her feelings returned. How he felt inside. It's the main theme of The Last of Us. Living vs Surviving.

when tess gave the speech to ellie about surviving, at that balcony, she wasnt bitten yet. ye got bitten in the museum.
and they didnt take any of the weapons before tess blew it up cause one, they were in this fucked up mental scenario in which she was about to die, AND, a HUGE ass group of infected(s) were literally at the door, so every second counted when it came to RUNNING.

And it's so cool how the show is sticking so close to the source material because in the game we knew Bill and Frank were a gay couple but we never got to see their backstory and i someone who has played the game multiple times and love the story more than anything i appreciate how the show really fleshed out their story it was truly amazing to watch

Someone probably told you already, but nobody went out the door. They had probably left the door opened, and when Joel tried the door to the bedroom, the fact that the window was opened created a draft and that's what closed the door.

I have no problem deviating from the source material as long as major notes/plot points are kept. It also helps keep people on their toes. if you know exactly what is coming then it can be a little anti-climactic. This was a very well done deviation as techincally they won. The infection didnt kill them, raiders didnt kill them it was just normal life like any couple not in a pandemic could experience. they lived and died on their own terms.

it is a change, but thematically, it wasn’t a big change and more importantly it was a clever change.
that section of the game is known for all the bumping and grinding with the infected, cool booby traps and Bill. they skipped to the chase and instead of Bill being a huge cautionary tale for joel, they served the story the same way by making Bill the blueprint for joel while echoing the main themes of the whole story. clever. as much as i wanted to see Bill from the game, i can’t argue with sharp (razor sharp) writing.

    • @weaverhawk
      @weaverhawk Год назад +12

The point was showing that people can have hope and love that would give them strength to carry on even after the world has ended. That surviving is not the same as living and that living your life fully is something that's worth fighting for. That everyone can have - get - something really precious, if they're willing to allow themselves to be vulnerable and try to make a connection with another person, no matter their history, no matter if they've been hurt before or even if they've never had the chance to experience that before, because they've guarded themselves and making connection is scary and unfamiliar to them. The point was that the precious immaterial things in our lives, people that we love, that we consider worth protecting, can give our life meaning and purpose. The story of Bill and Frank is reflected in the story of Tess and Joel and I'm guessing Joel and Ellie too, because she can become that thing for him.
Stories aren't about viewers following the characters walking from point A to point B, about getting from start event to end event. There are emotional layers to them and post-apocalyptic stories in particular tend to be about humanity and the things that make us human. This is how I see this story too - it's about love, beauty and valuing fleeting things.
