    • @dy031101

Japan does not have the same level of the "Personal Is Political" BS as the West now. Many Western women are frequently seen as loud and brash because they see genders as representations of inherently-opposing political ideologies rather than just arbitrary characteristics and consider all women as obligated to fight their gender war.

    • @SummerRainn
      @SummerRainn 3 года назад

@@dy031101 Eh, in Japan, women are actually treated pretty badly. They have social expectations forced on them because of the strict hierarchy and standards people typically follow, such as marriage at a certain age range. If they don't marry at said age (typically at less than 25), men call them "Christmas Cake" as a way to say they are stale. If this is the way it is in Japan, I don't really imagine that women are treated all that well from a general point of view.
Reality is unfortunately often disappointing in ways like this, so OP's comment to me feels very swallow and high-strung. American women are seen as 'brash and loud' because they are tired of unequal treatment and want change. To make change, you've got be aggressive and make attacks. There are many such campaigns held largely by celebrities and other big personalties on social media as a tool to reach broad, international audiences, which is why you see so many 'feminists' on social media. It can also be casual posts such as photoshoots and inspirational messages that aim to communicate the same things.
You don't need to be on social media for very long to see many girls make aggressive comments and tweets such as "Men are trash." or "All men need to learn their place and stop oppressing us women." I noticed that they comments often come as a result of yet more news that cover femicide or another rape, I do imagine that the plethora of articles and other media that cover the inequality topic also spawn such comments. Personally, I think if we have girls on twitter calling all men trash, then it just proves that maybe a lot of these women miss the point. But do I blame them? No, not really. I think it all is just one big consequence that we are witnessing as a result of years of men dominating society's high positions.
If you watch Chris Hansen's "To Catch A Predator" show, they didn't catch a single female predator even though they had actual boy decoys as well (Gay men came for those). It was all males. It's statistics like these that prompt women to be brash, though they are just flamboyant because they want to be heard. When they see endless articles about femicide and murder, they don't want to live in such a world. Why does such a thing as "girliness" matter if in the first place it promotes a narrative that works against them? If anything, and I have learned anything about women, is that they don't want to be given predefined characteristics. They want to decide what they are and what their place is. If a bunch of men tell them to be more "girly", they see this as oppression, and it does fit the definition to be honest.
As for the "Personal is Political" thing, it is just as I said, *it is personal* for them. Many things from the city architecture to the political and economical system works against women in many ways such as equal pay and opportunity, so it *is* personal. The only reason women in Japan aren't showing the same attitude is because they don't have the opportunity to do so. There is still much prejudice and forced stereotypes in Japan today, and honestly, Japan has it easy. Asia at large has many problems, just look at China and North Korea and then also Hong Kong. Things aren't easy for women in Asia, I haven't looked into that topic in particular, but I'm willing to bet a fair amount that they aren't.
Since we are talking about Key here, I keenly remember this one inconsiderate moment when I was reading Little Busters. At the scene when Kurugaya was challenging Masato, I remember when she said "blame society for placing women above men", in reference to how Masato had a toy weapon while she held a katana of some kind. Two things run by my mind, firstly being: "What the hell are the writers talking about?" and then, "I wonder how the voice actor felt about this one line."
Is Key... a bunch of sexists? Nah, they don't intend to be. But they've shown a few times that they don't really get the current issue at hand. I respect Maeda a lot for Clannad but moments like these make me sceptical.
Other notable moments in the Anime industry is Oregairu for me. We all know the running joke with Hikigaya's teacher, Hiratsuka Suzuka, about how she is depressed half the time about her marital status. The most interesting thing about that is how Hiratsuka's VA is actually in such a position in her personal life, she had even publically spoken about it in a podcast and I think (though I'm not sure) she mentioned how she felt a little uncomfortable at times.
I get this all might come across as a bit depressing and politcal, but raising awareness is good. I'm by no means an angel by the way, and as a man, I have made my own mistakes when it comes to this issue. There needs to be more effort, especially because feminism might come across as bad at times because of the points mentioned above. It's not, it's simply evolving and changing as it converges into society's system deeply rooted by men. It has its issues, but what kind of movement doesn't? And anyway, feminism isn't a singular movement, it's many, because there are currently many issues.

Wow, colour me impressed. You sure have a fair bit to say about the topic, but uh, how can I put this...? You give me the vibe of one of those people who look into something so much they end up with this staggering amount of defining evidence that they present to you as if they are enlightened, aka 'woke'. I've met some people like that, and the one thing they have in common is how one-sided and devoted they are, like knights defending a castle. One of my principles in life is balance - meaning to always possess negatives and positives surrounding a subject as complex subjects always have many arguments and dimensions as well as sides to them.
In other words, I seriously doubt that feminism is product of women's own undoings alone. I say this because throughout your comment, you have continuously argued against the movement in a way that demonises it in such a way that it almost becomes a conspiracy, and is too much. I'll quote some examples for you:
"This is largely due to the fact that Western Feminists have no concept of evolution or development of Human living standards and conditions."
"Because Feminists need that narrative to remain influential to justify their continued societal control."
"Feminists have no concept of societal development and do not recognize enlightenment. I think we've pretty much reached a point where Feminism can safely be treated as a religion."
"It is, by your own admission, deliberately engineered with a pre-conceived interpretation of how the world operates."
The build it up is certainly there, isn't it? To be honest, this is at most your opinion of feminism, but it seems that you view it as this mindless mob that is seeking to spread control and plague over the land. I find it interesting how you said that feminists don't recognise enlightenment. What does this mean, exactly? You puzzle me somewhat.
I do agree that there certainly are toxic feminists out there (I've experienced them first hand), but not all of them are unreasonable, entitled, or seeking of equality to the extreme. They are mostly neutral of the topic and recognize the current issues revolving inequality in our social structures. Let's take the city architectures for example, the postwar world urban designs are based on something an architect, Le Corbusier (a man, of course) built called Le Modulor. The ideal height according to this man was six feet because, and I kid you not, that's what the good looking men in English novels are. Yes, that was his reason. This created numerous problems for women, as cities were literally not built with them in mind. Men, after all, can't see women's issues. They are men! That is why you've got to have women onboard, you need their opinions too. The Guardian covers this in far more detail, and you can read here if you wish: www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2021/may/19/why-are-our-cities-built-for-6ft-tall-men-the-female-architects-who-fought-back
(If you think this is a feminist writing the article, it's not. It's a man.)
That is just *one* example of what I mean in the grand story of things. It's really not as one sided as you think it is. I read articles about the topic casually from various outlets and I don't think their contents are unreasonable, or anything remotely of the nature you are trying to describe. That said, I'm not actually American, so I'm not that familiar with issues in American culture, other than the fact that America always tends to titter towards the unhealthy for some reason, so I wouldn't be surprised if toxic feminists are a little more prevalent over there.
In my eyes, feminists are simply women who are seeking to solve various issues that are unfair, because don't you dare deny that society doesn't work against them in many ways. The 'toxic feminists' let's call them are not really feminists in my eyes, but outright fanatics and extremists, and also people who probably have many personal issues in their lives that shaped those traits into them. I think that outlook for the issue at hand works for me based on my own personal experience and research.
I doubt this will change your mind in any way, as you are apparently the ultimate agent of your own will, which I think is also quite the formidable, double-edged sword by the way, but it is fine. I still want to voice my opinions, even if I can't express language as eloquently as you (though I suppose you've noticed this already.)
For what you said on Karaguya, it ticked me off somewhat, as you put words into my mouth. I said that I wonder how the VA felt about one line, not *how* she should feel. I've raised that concern in particular because there have been other instances where I've had to wonder the same thing. But you never saw me dramatizing it, did you? Because I don't want to portray a VA's take on one, as you suggest that I tried doing.
Finally, Chris Hansen's show was pretty realistic overall in my opinion. I'm not an avid viewer of reality shows (I've only ever seen a handful in my life) but his show in particular was pretty real, an independent group called Perverted Justice ran the decoys and chat logs, while NBC and then the police itself handled the arrests. Overall, there were three separate entities working together in the show. Anybody was free to walk into the decoy houses as the decoy profiles were online and free for anyone to access. Yet, no women ever came. Are you going to blame this on feminism as well, or will you blame the show again? Even if you do, there are other sources that can support the statistic. There have been sexual assaults from women worldwide, of course, but the number is extremely disproportionate in its ratio.
