October 2021 "MPs vote to allow water companies to dump raw sewage into rivers and seas.. The Government has given polluters the green light to pump raw sewage into British rivers and seas in an ‘extremely disappointing’ move. The bill, intended to revamp the UK’s environmental regulations post Brexit, currently allows raw sewage to be discharged into the country’s waterways. In 2020, water companies discharged raw sewage more than 400,000 times over a period of 3.1 million hours, according to figures published by the Environment Agency."
Im a river Keeper, Fishery Manager, angler, Conservationist and we were never going to meet the EUs WFD by 2017, infact its getting worse. Government, private water companies, agriculture, over population, expanding population, new builds. Rivers can Self Clean over time, nature can adjust and recolonise, but wipe it all out, it stands no chance. Its our history, geography, heritage and culture all of wich nowadays is further being eroded away.

My local river was a beautiful river clean and clear, Iv noticed recently it’s dirty and stinks and you can no longer see the bottom, this as of 2024.

Going Fishing on my local canal is a nightmare sometimes. 2 trollies thrown in. Traffic cones, cans, bottles, plastic, tires. I could go on. Needs to be stopped.
Surfers against raw sewage and the river fisherman should all get together to protest.
I agree with every single word and have been saying very similar for year's I would add that those who are responsible for pollution ie the CEO'S of companies who allow this to happen for profits should be jailed the industry would soon get its act together if those in positions of power faced jail, instead of a fine which they treat as part of doing business.

It seems like every six months we have a story about population in our rivers and sea and someone from the government says they are going to deal with it and nothing happens. The regulators who are supposed to deal with these issues are completely useless.
When im fishing, i honestly don't think of anything else but the next bite.....whether 15 or 80 you can fish....a life long hobby...
Makes you wonder what do they actually do qith all the money they collect from fishing licences? New cars?

magnet fishing is also a good way to help get crap from our rivers and canals plus its a good buzz .....
"Dog walking women" Love it. They can't walk more than 10 metres without discarding a vento cappucino cup. I recall during lockdown when they all used exercise as an excuse to get out - at a local reservoir there was a bench covered in coffee cups - about 100 metres in from the start of a 5 mile walk...

The coast in Cornwall has turds floating in the sea.We have not many rivers here.All down to massive house building and the council were told but allowed this anyway.I think fishing is spiritual too.

I argued with Rod licence officers last year I had a licence but I asked wot it was for he said it was for the fight go own a licence I said no it was for the up keeping our rivers which the sold to clubs its ridiculous
