My grandfather fought against china from Assam rifles & his younger brother from kumaon regiment NEFA our 3 generation continue to serve AR till today.
Assam Rifles saved my family and the other non manipuri neighbours, while a huge manipuri mob tried to burn down our rented houses, back in 2002. I still remember it very vividly, my father was trying to break open the back window grill and was tying bed sheets together, so we could climb down , manipuri police sation was just 50 meters away from us, but didnt do anything, our eyes were burning from the tear gas used by the local manipuri mob, my mother applied tooth paste in my sister and my eyes. We were sure we would die. I was holding a small Hanuman Chalisa and so scared i could even cry, i was 8 years old. Just as we gave up hope, my mother tried shouting at the few CRPF personal, guarding SBI BANK which was across the road ( M G Avenue, imphal), but they refused because they couldnt leave the bank unguarded and the local manipuri mob was over 10,000, including maitai men and women with sticks and petroleum bombs. We heard a siren, different from that of any ambulance, more like a fire fighting truck. It was an INDIAN ARMY MAHINDRA MPV, whith red flags hoisted . They saved us.
Assam rifle in Manipur didn't do anything or destroy poppy plantation in their backyard which is under their jurisdiction. This is a very alarming situation in Manipur.
#Proud to be in AR but sad as well, Dual control is not fair. Doing all the Army duty but facilities are given like Paramiltary😢. Hope and pray that dual control gets over soon.
