- In the aftermath of the Jan 6 riot, it was revealed that Fox News host Tucker Carlson had sent a text message to a friend on January 5, 2021, in which he fantasized about a group of men killing a member of Antifa. Carlson wrote, "I'm surprised by the video. I thought white men fought one-on-one."
Matt Walsh, a conservative commentator, agrees with Carlson's sentiment. In a tweet, Walsh wrote, "In nearly every video on the internet where gangs of people viciously assault another person, the gangs are comprised of people who are not white."

I love this because I have a family friend who constantly sees those "black guys gang up on x" and think that's all that exists. I asked him one time "Do you think liberals are fed a specifically curated set of facts to push them in one direction?" And he replied of course, liberal media yadda yadda. I asked "is it possible if he was fed a specifically curated set of facts to push him in a direction?" He said no.

Tbh “curated set of facts” doesn’t describe the situation. “Curated sets of lies” is more on point. The dominion fox lawsuit clearly proved that right wing media pushes conspiracy theories well knowing that they have no basis in reality. Matt Walsh was even exposed by Joe Rogan when he tried to peddled false figures about transgender healthcare.
I am not even a leftist but I prefer to listen to commentators that while obviously giving their own perspective, at least try to get the basic facts straight.

Walsh's assumption is that we all share the same feelings- like bloodlust- but that only men like Tucker are somehow brave enough, introspective enough, to recognize this in themselves. But not everyone does feel bloodthirsty. Is Walsh incapable of imagining that?

Not unlike Carlson and Crowder, Walsh is a critic of actual humanity. That's what's so scary about them: They look like people. You'd never know that underneath the person costume they wear is a creature that can't understand what it means to live in a civilized society. Respecting people's differences, accepting that diversity is a good thing, truly loving your neighbor, and understanding that we were put here on this planet not to hurt one another but help one another---all these concepts are foreign to them; they stand outside humanity looking in, horrified by the goodness they see in people and determined to undermine and destroy it. Put them in the South in the late 1800s/early 1900s and they would be one of those men you may have seen in pictures of lynchings from that time, posing for the camera and smiling, gleeful and proud of the moral atrocity they've just committed. That's why I refer to Walsh, Carlson and Crowder as humanoids. They resemble a person without actually being one in any respect.

A tad dehumanizing, but I will agree there's elements of sociopathy in what they're saying. As if everyone secretly wants to inflict retributive violence on their enemies and the left just does it without thought and holds it up as good, when they constantly complain that the left is soft and doesn't have the will/conviction to do what is done and be necessarily cruel to criminals. In their minds, everyone feels like they do, and it's a point of intellectual humility to admit it.

I actually can not relate to seeing somebody being beaten up and feeling anything else than horror. I do have desires for revenge but actual physical violence is another ballpark alltogether, also I could understand if he imagined his political opponents being beaten, but witnessing that kind of violence and having to restrain your excitement about it is gross and alarming to me. I actually do not understand how everybody just glances over that.
@Sophie H I think most of us here feel similarly. It's especially troubling for me as it is a young boy/teen. Tucker has a son, but he is poisoned with such callousness and racism, no real empathy came or comes naturally to him. Not that I' m comparing all autists to Republican Racist WASPS, but it reminds me of how some socially inept people on the spectrum learn how to react "properly" over tim;, they realise that polite, kind, and civilised folk behave a certain way, and so they begin to fake the appropriate emotions.
