Kudos to you for your extreme organization! Your space, although small, is probably 10 times more efficient than someone with a larger but unorganized space. Very impressed!
I have a feeling I’m going to watch this video a few times. There are so many great ideas for storage and organization and I love the fact that you game. Cheers to you and your studio!
Aw thank you! I'm glad it was helpful. And yes, definitely a gamer!
Hi! You probably won’t read this, but I use a pretty headband to snap around the long edge of my Kuretake paints because they also spill all over the place. Headbands are big enough that they won’t dent the box, and it’s worth keeping that box closed. :)
loved the tour and BTW you have a totally appropriate amount of paints;)
I really need a new studio and/or watercolor palette tour. I just love how you organize your paints and gives me new ideas about how to organize my babies 🤭
I really love watching studio tours, it says so much about how each artist has many different habits and a way of organizing that makes them comfortable. I actually don’t have that much space and used to work on the dining room for a while until I got my own small space and it’s a blast even if it’s small but I can organize it however I want!
I LOVED this video! Starting off with you and Cricket was soooo sweet! Also, your face is lovely. ♥ Oh, oh! I have a little spritzer bottle like yours, and mine has your narwhal sticker on it! I love that desk! I've been considering something like that, simply because I don't really like to spend so much time during the day sitting. DENISE BOARD GAAAAAAMES!!!! We LOVE board games! Oh my goodness, so many things to love about this.
Yay!! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for including me in your workspace too with the little narwhal. I have both your original and the print I got from you that desperately need to be framed so I can get them up on my wall 😍 And yaaaaas board games! I actually met the vast majority of my current friends circle about four years ago through board game meetups, and I've never looked back. They're just some of the best people I've ever known and I love it. Someday when you and I get a chance to meet up we'll have to set aside some time to play!
I love that I’m not the only one who saves Talenti jars for my art studio lol.
Studio light 💡😍😍 thank you for sharing your home studio with us, I love the watercolour hampers, definitely the thing to grab in case of an emergency 😘😘
Thank you so much for showing your work space Denise! I like how you're able to organize your place with so many stuffs. Also, your attention to your eyes, back, and shoulders' well being, I hadn't give enough care to them and now the pain starts to come. Your 'digital' table is inspirational. Thank you again! ⭐
Your Grandmothers 🤗 teddy is so sweet! 🐻
Loved this and you are so organized! I'm glad to know you have your equipment listed on amazon. I want to get a few things and that makes it super helpful.
Glad it's helpful!
Ahh, how I would love to have a separate room to use as a studio. Actually, I could use two separate rooms - one just for storing all my art supplies. My living space is very modern and open, and I also have a parrot, so I have to be really careful about toxic fumes (no oil painting for now). I wish I had my mother’s house. The builder added an apartment onto the house for his elderly mother, and it would be perfect to have that apartment right next door to use as a studio. But, for now, I just have a corner of my living room that looks somewhat like your space....only much less organized.
I really loved this video. 28 minutes of paradise. 😊💖💖💖
When you said you slept in the same room with that significant amount of paint, I was thinking that might have not been a good idea. They are chemicals and even when a tube is closed you can smell them. And you literally had a huge amount of them around. I keep my tubes in an air tight plastic box. (and I have like 0.1% of what you have 😂)
I can’t thank you enough for posting this. I have always been a bit discouraged by what little space I am able to devote to my painting. (My workspace is my kitchen table, and I store and organize my materials on about four different shelves on a book case in my living room.) You really showed me that you don’t need an entire room devoted to painting to have a beautiful, working studio space. Thank you again!
YES! Love that good good Cricket content! Thanks for showing us around. I love seeing where other creative people work.
Absolutely LOVE the opossum on ur wall 💗💖 great video😁
You are so well organised! That must have taken a lot of work to sort everything so well. I’m super impressed.
So awesome to see your studios! Love how you organise your things. Must be nice to have a separate area for doing the computer related things :D
Thanks Oto! Actually though my ultimate goal is to have them both in one space. Tbh I'm totally exhausted from my current set up since it divides my bedroom AND my living room. I never feel like I have a break! I long for the day off have a dedicated room 😁💜
@@InLiquidColor I can totally relate. I used to have it sort of like that, where work areas were just wherever in the apartment I could find the space. Then we swapped the living room and the bedroom around, so now I use the bedroom as a studio. (I know you can't do that because you have a flat mate.) It's amazing difference to have it all in one room, and contained in one room so you mentally get to shut it all away when you are just 'living'.
Don't ever excuse the amounts of paints you have. There's no such thing as too much. I have about 800 coloured pencils. :)
Wow! i like the way you organize your stuff, especially the lamp!! Thanks for sharing!!
As I slowly declutter and reorganize my own art space, I've been taking a look at what other artists are doing. Wow girl. You DO have a lot of paint! LOL (This is said from envy.) You've done well with your small space. It seems very creative and filled with all you need to get your work done. I have a spare bedroom that has been my studio for the past 20 years. I started as a jeweler/gemologist complete with a jeweler's bench, moved to being an author/poet (still am), and after years of "doodling", I suddenly am finding myself sending art to art shows....and learning how to use watercolor with my pen and ink illustrations. Oh dear, another art station to create. :) I see that I have caught this video a bit late...I will search and see if you got the paint making video done...love to see what you do with that muller. Keep up the good work. :)
Thanks for the studio tour, Denise! Love to see where you work and do your thing.
As far as my own studio space goes, for the first 6 or so years of being a freelance artist, the apartments I lived in were small and cramped--often my dining room table doubled as my art desk or I set up my studio in a little alcove. Since moving back home to help care for some family health issues, I took over the dining room of the house we grew up in--it has a HUGE picture window and a friend built a custom L-shaped desk out of raw wood for me (less than $80--awesome bonus to have a carpenter friend!). There are still some things I'd like to do with my studio, one being converting the art desk I've lugged from apartment to apartment into a standing desk. But for now, it's my favorite place in the house and I feel so spoiled to have so much space!
Oh, and thanks for the artwork shout-out! :-)
Your watercolour collection is awesome. Loved your workspace, organised and inspiring. I like your art works.
Thanks for the tour! I enjoy seeing how others organize their art environments. I'm in the midst of re-arranging. Yours looks very tidy. Do include Cricket more often in the future!
You just gave me an idea on how to store my eyeshadow palettes - those Daiso collapsibles. Why didn’t I think of it 🤦♀️ I love love organized spaces without huge collections that look like shops😂 - the inner minimalist in me. your collection is just perfect.❤️
Very cool set up for the space you have. Feel better.❤️❤️❤️
Can’t wait to watch this!!
Hi Denise, thank you for sharing this studio tour, I really enjoyed it :)
Awesome video! I really enjoyed seeing your workspace and a backstage tour of where the magic happens. And Cricket’s cameos were a bonus!
This is gonna be an exciting video!
Always good to see others studio. We are not alone and in many ways we all are alike. So much to try, do, and plans for the future. Thanks for making the video. Take care of yourself. Personally I need to work on lighting, good to see your setup.
"The Corner that shall not be talked about". .. 😆 you did so well in such a small area for everything! If you think of it you have a studio, store, artspace, craft area, testing Lab, all together!! Bravo!! ** Do you like your scanner? Would you choose it again? Thanks for taking us for a fun tour!! 😘 (Tickles me that my rose card is among all that wonderful art! Xoxoxo)
Hehe thanks Tiffany! I love my scanner! Would definitely get it again :) I'm honored to have your roses on my wall! Thank you for them.
I really appreciate a good studio tour! I think you've really optimized your space beautifully considering that you have multiple types of business & artist needs, i.e. selling items at conventions and online, reviewing, filming & production, and most importantly--ART!
I hope someday you get a dedicated space, but as I live in Seattle where we have a similar real estate crunch to CA, I understand space is at a premium. Hope the smoke dissipates soon (and my heart goes out to all those affected by the fires) and again, thank for sharing your studio organization ideas! I'm looking forward to future reviews and watercolor adventures.
Yea....where do you store stuff for shows.....i used to have sooooo much stuff to take to shows...and a craft hut.....
thanks for sharing your studio. As far as the used small palettes, I have mine right out on my work table to be ready for quick work. All they need is a light spray of water and they are ready, bypassing the need to decide on colors and accessing the other large palettes. Your paint collection is reasonable and I doubt you will find many artists who have less paints and variety of surfaces/papers and we do not have the excuse of doing reviews. Artists and crafting folks have supplies, lots of supplies and folks who sell things also need lots of supplies which is why studio tours are so popular as we seek storage solutions.
The vintage paints! 😍😍😍
I know right?! Whyyyy haven't I gotte to you yet?! 😍
This was so helpful. I spent most of a snowy afternoon organizing my studio based on your examples. Thanks so much!
You do such a great job using the space you have...it’s changed a lot since I saw it in person and it looks so great!
Also, I’m seriously considering finally buying a dymo.....but I have such a long list of “to buy” business list haha
I love this video! 😊👍 Such a stunning concept
Im glad to see im not the only person who had a ridiculous amount of different art supplies that are stashed away, even from back in school.... XD
an enchanting video and space for such an enchanting lady. I am so very envious of your organization, you are quite put together! I really want to see more water mixable oil painting videos as well as the vintage watercolors! maybe a swatch party? Hope your having a Grand Day!
Hi! New to your channel. Love your space, nice to know, I’m not the only one w/o an art/craft room! Thanks for sharing! 💕
Ooh looking forward to seeing the vintage palettes, I love stuff like that but can't justify buying it
I loved your video thank you so much for sharing it have a colorful creative day bless you
CRICKET!! ♥
Lovely tour, your space is really nice and organized!
There's a reason it's taken me over a year to make this video 🤔😂 thanks Eve!
I've changed my space 4x in the last year it seems. Cats always seem to work themselves in the configuration. Same for you Eve? I think Denise trained Cricket to stay off the table. What a good girl!
My old desk used to get little to no natural light so it was always a pain to paint there. So I recently got a smaller desk to keep it right next to the window. I also moved some furniture to basically divide my room into two smaller spaces, one of them being the art "room'" so I moved all my art supplies there into a chest of drawers. Now I'm just waiting for christmas to get a comfortable chair so that I can finally paint in that small space more often.
I knew I liked you from your videos, then you mentioned gaming and even better a bit of board game shelfie at the end. :)
ooooh you will sooo love the schmincke gouache, i own the hks designer gouache and i looove it. Ps, I looooooove the meercats above your desk 💕
How neat you are. My work space should be that organized......
Thank you for the shoutout in the comment :D
I also live in a small apartment, and I can so relate to this haha! There are art supplies stored in all of my rooms...and I have quite a few areas we dont talk about :D
Glad I am not the only one who is hoarding Crayola crayons;) I want to come and have a spoonie art day with you!
Hahaha yes! They hold a special place in my heart. Whenever we got sick as kids my mom would go get whatever prescription the doc ordered along with a coloring book and new box of crayons 🙂
Dude! You are WAY more organized than me! My studio / office looks like it was hit by an earthquake-volcano-landslide-mageddon. You know... next time you're on the east coast... ;)
Yaaaassss plz list the original paintings 💕
Hey Krystsal! Do you have one or a few in mind that you're interested in?
The first time I watched this video, I didn't notice that bit at the end where you showed some of your tabletop games. I must say, Tokaido is the most relaxing board game ever. I used to play that game and many others on a regular basis with the awesome group of friends I had where I lived before moving across the country. I miss our game nights.
I would really like to form another tabletop gaming group, but it's not going to happen with my current group of friends, because one is a sore loser and even worse as a winner.
Thanks for the fascinating tour! Wow, I thought I had lots of art supplies, LOL, but you're in another universe entirely :-) The biggest thrill for me from the tour was learning about Nila Colori, which I hadn't heard of before. Just spent 15 minutes drooling over their website, thinking how I can possibly justify one of their sets...
Your work space is so ispiring and organised, you have SO much art in your room, that is my dream, art made by a bunch of people with a bunch os styles, I love your videos and your cat is really pretty, hope you keep going with your art an videos for a long time.
Thank you for all the kind words Julia!
The best part of a studio is to have a cat buddy-mine is Dickens. Plus, I saw that Talenti container you use for holding water. I have saved lots of those for holding different colored washes that I pour. Of course, I must force myself to eat the gelato in order to get the containers!
Love your set up. Thank you so much for sharing. You've given me so many idea. I have to reset up bcuz of recent move into a new place. I love how everything is organized. Love your videos.. Edwina
Thanks Edwina! Have fun moving into your new place!
When I adopted my cat last year her name was cricket 😊 (it’s Jolene now!)
I have a much bigger space but it still ends up being completely full of clutter, so really it isn't the size that matters, but how well your stuff is organised (and mine never seems to be, lol).
Ha, at least you're more organized than me. I'm not very organized and it's probably because I don't have a lot of storage containers of stuff like that to actually organize. Most of the good ones are too expensive for me right now so I kinda have stuff... Laying around, plus I homeschool so I have that stuff as well. But I do live in an actual house, heh. Also your art room is really cool! I love it!
Annnd I also work out of my bedroom. One side of the room is bed, dresser and nightstand. The other side is my L shaped desk and accompanying storage for art and buisness. Its a bit disorganized, but after Christmas I plan on upgrading some things
What a lovely tour! Thank you for the detailed explanations and great imagery. It was a pleasure to watch :) I love seeing other people's workspaces. Keeps you motivated somehow and makes you feel a little less ridiculous and guilty about your own miraculously accumulating collection of art-supplies ^^ And its always satisfying to see good storage solutions... :)
Darn those magical art supplies! Hehe I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😁
Thank you for the tour! You've done an amazing job organizing a large amount of supplies in a very compact space (you've inspired me to rethink my office.) I am REALLY looking forward to the paper reviews! I know Arches is the gold standard, but the price is usually prohibitive for amateurs like myself. It's unfortunate many of the 'newer' paper companies don't offer sample packs - it would help with finding alternatives. Hope you're feeling better soon. Cheers!
I'm so glad it was helpful Barb! Have you checked out Jackson's for paper samples? They have tons! 💜
@@InLiquidColor You know, I've never shopped there -- I usually go (online) to Jerry's Artarma, Cheap Joe's or Dick Blick. I will have to check out Jackson's. Thanks!
So spooky that your workspace is setup almost identical to mine!
However, I'm feeling a bit cramped lately which isn't really conducive to me being creative, so I am thinking about rearranging everything soon.
Thanks for sharing! Loved the intro :)
Great minds think alike! 😁💜 Have fun with the reorganizing though!
Okay, just got to the part where you didn't clean a small palette because you didn't want to waste the paint. My dear, you've probably got more paints right now than you could use in a lifetime. Wash your little palettes and make room for more fun!
Why don’t you make the challenge of making a painting only from colours that are left on your dried palette and then wash it? :)
Also, I’ve been using Schmincke gouache for a few years now. Looking forward to seeing what you think of it! Pricey, but really lovely.! It cracks when dried, but rewets beautifully. I check Roz Stendahl’s extensive blog for great gouache info. She likes Schmincke and M. Graham. I recently picked up some M Graham gouache to test based on Roz’s recommendations.
Cricket is my fav not gonna lie, my cat bias is showing and I am not ashamed.
I have always had my workspace in my bedroom, its not that bad if you ignore the lack of space and the endless amounts of stuff one acquires over the years. Nowadays I live a bit temporary and everything is in boxes, I have no wardrobe, storage, desk or chair. I never thought I was fussy with my work environment, but I can not make myself produce any artwork. Everything is in a standstill, but hopefully my living situation will improve pretty soon.
I hope you get to spread out again soon! Workspace is so key to a good mental flow.
❤️
That's sooo interesting to see :) my "studio" is the other side of my bedroom as well 😂 our apartment is also pretty tiny 😅
Yay small spaces! Haha.
The only problem is that my boyfriend and I are SUUUUPER messy 😂😅
I loved seeing where you art! I have a room for that but it isn’t organized in any way. My apartment is dark with very little natural light coming in. My next purchase has to be additional lighting because I find that I do most of my arting after sunset. And wow, so many palettes!! Damn girl, what are you going to do with all that paint? I’ve painted for years with acrylics and m finding that switching to watercolors is hugely expensive. I can’t imagine being able to afford all the DS watercolors you have! I have a whopping four DS paints. So I’m a little envious! 😏🎨✒️
Thanks! Like I mentioned most of my paint comes from my work. The DS though is all mine, and a few gifted tubes from viewers. It's been four years in the making though so don't hold yourself to that mark!
i'm sorry you have shoulder pain...hope you feel better
Thanks for sharing your workspace with us! I'm always curious what other people's studios look like. I have a quick question for you. Silver Black Velvet brushes are my very favorite, but every one I get, the black coating on the outside starts to flake and peel very soon after using them. I was wondering if you had encountered the same issue. I'm careful with my brushes, don't leave them sitting in water, but they still don't seem to hold up.
I know this video is 3yrs old. How did you keep paint off your carpet? I just converted a spare bedroom/junk room to my studio. So exciting !
Hi! Loved watching the studio tour. What camera do you use for RUclips videos and what do you mount it with so it's not a shot of the top of your head the whole time?
So love seeing your workspace :D) I know you were so good about listing all the good stuff in your artspace, butI don't think you listed the fabric paper holder sticking onto the wall? I need one (or 2) of those. Do you recall where you bought it?
Oh how silly of me to forget! It's on Amazon: www.amazon.com/dp/B01M24PQ23?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
For your shoulder pain, may I recommend dry needling. It works great.
I do not respond well to acupuncture at all unfortunately.
Have you done a video about your favorite watercolor/art books?
insane
Too much paint? I didn't know there was such a thing. 😊And we all know it's never a matter of "need'. We just can't help ourselves.
you have a nice work space, if I moved your brushes over to the other side, how long would it take you to not grab at the old location for a brush? (just teasing) when i moved into my now apartment, it took me a few weeks to stop reaching for the light switch on the wrong wall, lol, thanks for the tour, i hope you are feeling better
Thanks so much!
Hi! I don’t have a RUclips channel but the lighting in my craft room is not great. I find my self tilting my paintings, bobbing my head backwards forwards, side to side (you get the picture) to try to see my work. Will this work for that? Or What do you suggest? Thank you in advance
That's what you call 'personalized organized clutter' - which is the best kind! I'm more of a 'personalized messy clutter' myself, but I know exactly where everything is, and if someone moves something, they're at risk of loosing an arm (or their heads lol). Your way is much nicer though, wish I could be so organized with my mess :) I really liked the paper holder on the wall idea, I'm really struggling with finding a place for all of my WC to be at the same place - that might be a nice solution. Loose sheets is something I always wanted to move to (from the pads and blocks I currently use), but other than the expensive shipping costs, I'm really nervous about them just lying around and getting ruined. How do you keep them from collecting dust, dirt, getting oily etc?
Palmira Farkash I keep mine in large sturdy portfolios, and organize those behind a bookshelf. Flat files like the art stores have would probably be better, but these work for me.
Aw
Is it in general something you would recommend for natural light to paint by? My apartment and all the windows in it face a wooded area so the natural light is dark and I haven’t purchased a light yet and need recommendations that won’t cost an arm and a leg!
You can get natural daylight bulbs! They're pretty common these days, and you don't need anything fancy - just switch out your light bulbs in the room you're painting in :)
Crazy cat lady turned art
👌👌👌👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
I'm not sure if I missed it in the video and I can't seem to find it in the description, but can you tell me what the set of what seems to be pigments is called? It first appears at 16:21
Just realised you said they came from an art shop in Europe, any chance you know which or where? Because I live in Europe :)
They're from France and the company is called La Compagnie des Ocres. I don't know the name of the specific shop though my apologies!
I am curious as to which artist painted the TARDIS police box?
I can not store my brushes or writing tools like you do because I have 4 cats that would haul them to only GOD knows where. Everything has to be put away so the Fur children stay out of them.
If it has my scent on it it is fare game. Love Terri Simmers.
DO SHARE SOME SKILLSHARE SKILLS TOO!!!!
What kind of conventions do you go to?
Cricket! What board game were you pointing out to play? 😍
That was 7 Wonders 😁
you should be an art teacher
If you've got "TOO much" paint, you could do a giveaway....
Hi Aaron, I recently explained the trouble with giveaways in my Da Vinci Trio version. Hope that helps explain things!
Doesn’t your cat drink your painting water? I can’t leave my water out, not even for a second, she doesn’t care if it’s bright green, she will drink it.
❤️
