I have always been puzzled why she never broke through like her contemporaries like The Womack Brothers (Bobby), who Sam Cooke helped launch, and Aretha also who Rev. CL helped in the beginning and Sam Cooke later helped! ? and..Sis. Wynonna coming out of the same church, and being a point person in that remarkable choir.? Go figure.. I mean Sis Carrs talent was noticed by Art Rupe who was an industry icon of that day, she was also noticed by the Pilgrim Travelers and by the legendary thunderbolt of the mid west, "Bro. Joe May. Rupe; tried to model her after Sis Rosetta Thorpe, her contemporary; but she just never blew up in either the jump, or the gospel communities, leaving behind only really 2 memorable hits, please Mr. Jailer & The Ball Game. Go figure?
