  • Moa Smokes is back with part 2 of Debunking Hookah and Shisha Myths. Part 2 covers volatile topics such as milk, liquor or ice in the base of the hookah or shisha. He also covers what quicklights are and how they work. Moa explains why each one works the way that it does in a way that's easy to understand (hopefully). Do you think milk in the base is the way to go for thicker clouds? Do you think liquor in the base gives you a little something extra? Do you think quicklights are superior? Let's talk about it. All of it. Part 2 of Myth Busters for the hookah crowd is here.

Ice in the base shouldn't cause any problems for your bowl if you're using a silicone bowl grommet as it should insulate it enough. The only problems that I see are that it makes the smoke more dry and if it's in a glass base, it can exacerbate any imbalances in the glass, causing it to break. I mostly use ice in my smaller hookahs to help cool the smoke down since there's much less of a stem to naturally cool the smoke. As far as blowing on the bowl goes, my friends that worked in lounges say that it helps with keeping the bowl from getting harsh, but I'm not exactly sure how that works.

I worked for a hookah lounge like a 12 years ago and we would blow into the head every time we did maintenance on the coals. When I would train people I would tell them that there really isn't a need to do this but it helps with tips. Most customers don't really understand hookah so If you blow out the head every time to change out the coals it gives the appearance that your helping the shisha stay fresh and they're likely to leave a better tip lol

In my opinion and experience temperature of the stem doesn't actually matter, because the bowl is insulated by the rubber grommet on the end of the stem. So you get cool smoke without cooling your bowl.
The liquor thing is a myth most of the time (because with liquor in the base smoke can be very harsh sometimes) but small amount of wisely chosen alcohol can be very beneficial when you smoke with more people who want to feel some buzz (especially ones that have high nicotine tolerance). My favourite combo was some lemon dessert flavour with some limoncello in the base.

I would be curious on clean up tips. As someone who doesn’t use my hookah as often because of cleaning it afterwards. Do you clean the base after every session or the hose? Or the entire stem? Best way to dry the hose?

    Hey moa, nice vids !
Just to help you about the blow into the bowl, we usually do it when the tobacco heat up too much or starts burning (happens sometimes, not everyone knows how to manage the heat) so the blow is to lower the heat faster, also i saw on a fair in 2018-2019 that Mya made hookahs where you could blow air into your bowl directly from the stem to avoid having to take the burning bowl on your hand and make it easier to do it, they called it MX function if you want to check it, they said the bowl get -50°C from the blow with their technology, hope it helps ^^
    Keep up the work !

Agreed with everything, except your comment about ice in the base. By the time the temperature from the ice reaches the top of the bowl it's almost negligible #thermodynamics. Plus ice melts fairly quickly. Only reason to use ice is to temporarily cool the smoke as it goes through the ice/water mixture. It's like a precursor to the ice hose.

i was at a lounge in NY and they used lotus for the bowls and when i asked for the coals to be fixed he picked up the bowl and blew in it. the mystery of why lives on. (maybe they think its cooling down the bowl 🤷🏻‍♂️)

I found that placing my bowl and base in the freezer while my coconut coals light up does not affect the pull or smoke output. The only difference is that the pulls are ice cold for the first 5-10 min and it feels good. Especially if you have a mint flavor. I dont do it often but it works lol.

Blowing into the bowl is to clear out ash and/or trapped smoke that is causing harshness. Its a technique Ive seen at all cafes in Egypt as thats where I am from. I dont know where else they do that.

Putting a small amount of a nice flavored liquor into the base can be nice, think triple sec with a citrus tobacco.

  • @Apage300

My take on ice water is that since the ice melts relatively quickly the function resides in the prevention of the bowl from overheating to quickly. I use ice in my bowl frequently and it hasn't affected the clouds if anything I've found it slows down the warm up period which in turn allows for an even distribution of heat throughout the entire bowl. I guess you could just use less coals initially 😒
    Great videos.
Ps quick lights shouldn't even be legal. They're a crime against all hookah bowls.

  • @dragonflymike77
    @dragonflymike77 Год назад +1

Another reason they do a bowl purge is it can "cool it down," lots of lounges don't allow you to really mess with the hookahs or coals. Not a bad rule, most people don't know much about hookahs and such But we don't have to go into that. I am not sure if that actually works though but since many lounges don't let you really mess around with the coals, It can def get a bit hot. It can also loosen up the tobacco in the bowl. Again, not something that is really needed at all.
Watching your videos brings back sooooo many things man. Been outta the game to long, I don't even remember what I have forgotten. I completely forgot the milk thing omg. that is hysterical.
