    Thanks, Alvin. I have been following you for a bit, and I appreciate the information you are offering. Do you coach or train on project management for people trying to transition into PM roles?( I mean real life hands-on and not just the theory)

    Alvin,
    I have had a hard time finding a Project Manager role even with my most recent experience as a Senior IT Project Manager. I received my PMP in November and accepted a BA job this past week. Am I making a mistake for taking this role since my career goal is to be a Project Manager? I took this because I needed a job and it’s a contract for a year.Or will having this experience help me ?

      @earthlingt8231 7 месяцев назад +7

      I don't think you made a mistake. We all need income to pay our bills. I would suggest that you take the opportunity in your BA job to continue to enhance your project management skills. For example, look for opportunities where you can help your team or project lead help develop and track project schedules, budgets, work plans, and deliverables. This experience will help you enhance your resume and will eventually lead you to a larger PM role. You could also offer your current Team or Project Lead to do the PM work that may be outside of your role. This will show your optimism and will also help your gain experience. I wish you all the best your current role, and hoping that it will lead you to something bigger!

      @megganwalker3953, thanks for being open and sharing your experience! It can feel so frustrating not being able to land the job opportunity and having to settle for a job that you feel may not be the direction you want to go in the future. I know how it feels - in the past, I've had to settle for a position, but knew that I could leverage the experience & skills I would gain, to scale my career in the long-term. I encourage you to stick with the Business Analyst role. You'll still learn and apply many of the skills you would use as a Project Manager. Find ways to still lead projects within your role,, so you can leverage and use it as a stepping stone to the role you want to be in a year from now. I echo what @earthlingt8231 commented. To add to that, I recommend to also network in your company, and see if you can get to know anyone whose higher up in the organization whose in charge of a PMO, or other Project Managers. That way, you can build that relationship and see if there might be any opportunities as a Project Manager within that company, If not, I'd also encourage you to parallel path, and start looking for opportunities throughout 2024, and apply to those companies as well, before your contract ends. Good luck, I know you can do it, and wishing you all the best! Also, hope you have a Merry Christmas, and a Happy Holidays with your loved ones! 🎄

      @@alvinthepmofficial Thank you Alvin. I always enjoy watching your videos. I have also thought of obtaining a part time job to either teach or work as a PM on the side. Do you teach classes today? How do you go about finding a teaching role with a Masters degree with a PMP and two agile certifications (CSPO, CSM).
